Book Advances in Dynamic Network Modeling in Complex Transportation Systems

Download or read book Advances in Dynamic Network Modeling in Complex Transportation Systems written by Satish V. Ukkusuri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book focuses on recent developments in Dynamic Network Modeling, including aspects of route guidance and traffic control as they relate to transportation systems and other complex infrastructure networks. Dynamic Network Modeling is generally understood to be the mathematical modeling of time-varying vehicular flows on networks in a fashion that is consistent with established traffic flow theory and travel demand theory. Dynamic Network Modeling as a field has grown over the last thirty years, with contributions from various scholars all over the field. The basic problem which many scholars in this area have focused on is related to the analysis and prediction of traffic flows satisfying notions of equilibrium when flows are changing over time. In addition, recent research has also focused on integrating dynamic equilibrium with traffic control and other mechanism designs such as congestion pricing and network design. Recently, advances in sensor deployment, availability of GPS-enabled vehicular data and social media data have rapidly contributed to better understanding and estimating the traffic network states and have contributed to new research problems which advance previous models in dynamic modeling. A recent National Science Foundation workshop on “Dynamic Route Guidance and Traffic Control” was organized in June 2010 at Rutgers University by Prof. Kaan Ozbay, Prof. Satish Ukkusuri , Prof. Hani Nassif, and Professor Pushkin Kachroo. This workshop brought together experts in this area from universities, industry and federal/state agencies to present recent findings in this area. Various topics were presented at the workshop including dynamic traffic assignment, traffic flow modeling, network control, complex systems, mobile sensor deployment, intelligent traffic systems and data collection issues. This book is motivated by the research presented at this workshop and the discussions that followed.

Book Hybrid Predictive Control for Dynamic Transport Problems

Download or read book Hybrid Predictive Control for Dynamic Transport Problems written by Alfredo Nunez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-03 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hybrid Predictive Control for Dynamic Transport Problems develops methods for the design of predictive control strategies for nonlinear-dynamic hybrid discrete-/continuous-variable systems. The methodology is designed for real-time applications, particularly the study of dynamic transport systems. Operational and service policies are considered, as well as cost reduction. The control structure is based on a sound definition of the key variables and their evolution. A flexible objective function able to capture the predictive behaviour of the system variables is described. Coupled with efficient algorithms, mainly drawn from area of computational intelligence, this is shown to optimize performance indices for real-time applications. The framework of the proposed predictive control methodology is generic and, being able to solve nonlinear mixed integer optimization problems dynamically, is readily extendable to other industrial processes. The main topics of this book are: · hybrid predictive control (HPC) design based on evolutionary multiobjective optimization (EMO); · HPC based on EMO for dial-a-ride systems; and · HPC based on EMO for operational decisions in public transport systems. Hybrid Predictive Control for Dynamic Transport Problems is a comprehensive analysis of HPC and its application to dynamic transport systems. Introductory material on evolutionary algorithms is presented in summary in an appendix. The text will be of interest to control and transport engineers working on the operational optimization of transport systems and to academic researchers working with hybrid systems. The potential applications of the generic methods presented here to other process fields will make the book of interest to a wider group of researchers, scientists and graduate students working in other control-related disciplines.

Book Partitioned convolution algorithms for real time auralization

Download or read book Partitioned convolution algorithms for real time auralization written by Frank Wefers and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work discusses methods for efficient audio processing with finite impulse response (FIR) filters. Such filters are widely used for high-quality acoustic signal processing, e.g. for headphone or loudspeaker equalization, in binaural synthesis, in spatial sound reproduction techniques and for the auralization of reverberant environments. This work focuses on real-time applications, where the audio processing is subject to minimal delays (latencies). Different fast convolution concepts (transform-based, interpolation-based and number-theoretic), which are used to implement FIR filters efficiently, are examined regarding their applicability in real-time. These fast, elementary techniques can be further improved by the concept of partitioned convolution. This work introduces a classification and a general framework for partitioned convolution algorithms and analyzes the algorithmic classes which are relevant for real-time filtering: Elementary concepts which do not partition the filter impulse response (e.g. regular Overlap-Add and Overlap-Save convolution) and advanced techniques, which partition filters uniformly and non-uniformly. The algorithms are thereby regarded in their analytic complexity, their performance on target hardware, the optimal choice of parameters, assemblies of multiple filters, multi-channel processing and the exchange of filter impulse responses without audible artifacts. Suitable convolution techniques are identified for different types of audio applications, ranging from resource-aware auralizations on mobile devices to extensive room acoustics audio rendering using dedicated multi-processor systems.
