Book Test of a General Aviation Transponder Modified to Incorporate a Crystal Video Receiver

Download or read book Test of a General Aviation Transponder Modified to Incorporate a Crystal Video Receiver written by NATIONAL AVIATION FACILITIES EXPERIMENTAL CENTER ATLANTIC CITY N J. and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests of a modified General Aviation Transponder incorporating a crystal video receiver were performed in order to determine whether it is technically feasible to use this type of receiver in the design of future radar beacon transponders. The modified GAT met specifications or performed as well as the unmodified GAT during most tests; however, the unmodified GAT exhibited a low gain-bandwidth product. It was concluded that the technique of using a crystal video receiver in place of the superheterodyne receiver in radar beacon transponders is technically feasible, and when designed as an integral part of a new transponder, may effect a reduction in the cost, weight, or power consumption of the transponder. It was recommended that this technique be considered in the design of future radar beacon transponders. (Author).

Book Evaluation of General Aviation Transponders

Download or read book Evaluation of General Aviation Transponders written by Robert W. Delaney and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operational performance tests were conducted with General Aviation Transponders (GAT), developed under Federal Aviation Agency contracts. Four each of the prototype transponders were furnished and installed by FAA for operation in various aircraft. Questionnaires completed by the pilots of these aircraft provided data for estimating the performance and utility of the GAT along with benefits which might be derived from widespread implementation. It was concluded that while both types of General Aviation Transponders met the contract specifications, design changes are required to correct performance deterioration during operational use. It was also concluded that acceptance and utilization of the GAT by the General Aviation Community depend upon the extent to which its purchase price can be reduced and the equipment operational life increased. It was recommended that the FAA continue to foster introduction of transponders to general aviation by familiarizing the General Aviation Community with the ATCRBS, by investigation of design changes which will improve the GAT. Book Design Development and Flight Testing of an Instrumented Transponder Dart

Download or read book Design Development and Flight Testing of an Instrumented Transponder Dart written by Frank J. Hayo and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dart was designed for measuring vertical winds and temperature profiles over an altitude range of 200,000 - 70,000 feet, and to be compatible with an AN/GMD-4 system not requiring radar support. The dart is propelled by a Loki-type rocket to above 200,000 feet altitude. At apogee and transponder instrument is ejected and descends on a parachute, measuring temperature and wind. Flight tests conducted at White Sands Missile Range proved the feasibility of this system with 5 transponder instruments measuring the slant range successfully. (Author).
