Book Microstrip Reflectarray Antenna Program

Download or read book Microstrip Reflectarray Antenna Program written by Frank Opp and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a study to determine the feasibility and design limitations of a microstrip reflectarray antenna are presented. This antenna, which has been proposed as a means to provide potential low-cost corporate-fed phased arrays, utilizes microwave integrated circuit techniques to integrate the radiating element, phase-shifter components, dc distribution, and logic circuitry into a single structure. The report contains design and performance data on such an element operating at 3 GHz. The performance was measured using a waveguide test fixture to simulate the array. Fundamental element performance is in agreement with the results of supporting analysis. The usefulness of the element in an array is severely restricted by very narrow bandwidths and relatively high losses. However, supporting theoretical analysis showed the element's loss and operating bandwidth are a strong function of the element spacing in an array environment. Results indicate reduced loss and increased bandwidth with decreased spacing, thereby suggesting that the present performance deficiencies could be overcome. (Author).

Book Reflectarray Antennas Analysis Design Fabrication and Measurement

Download or read book Reflectarray Antennas Analysis Design Fabrication and Measurement written by Jafar Shaker and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflectarray antennas refer to the class of radiating structures that are comprised of an array of radiating elements, re-radiating the energy that is impinged on them from one or more radiating feeds that are located in free space. The constituent radiators that build a reflectarray can be shaped to bring about some flexibility in the way that antenna operates such as multi band/polarization operation. The printed nature of these elements allow integration of active elements that can further enhance the functionality of the reflectarray. This allows for capabilities such as power amplification, adaptive beam shaping, and beam switching. This resource presents readers with design guidelines along with an ample amount of material on different types of reflectarrays and methods of analysis. This book begins with introductory material on reflectarray antennas and progresses to the presentation of state-of-the-art research in the field. A direct comparison with conventional reflector antennas is provided, focusing on conventional efficiency figures of reflectors. Moreover, this book offers remarks on the future direction of reflectarray research and also potential applications of the technology in face of the emergence of new fabrication techniques to accommodate both passive and active elements.

Book Microstrip Reflectarray Antennas

Download or read book Microstrip Reflectarray Antennas written by Ang Yu and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reflectarray antenna takes advantages of both the reflector antenna and the array antenna, by spatially illuminating an array of phased antenna elements distributed on a planar surface. In this dissertation, a general reflectarray system model is characterized by a group of configuration parameters, whose relationship with the aperture efficiency is established. This leads to rules of thumb for reflectarray antenna designs. Reflectarray antenna elements are analyzed by the infinite array theory, whereas a model based on the Equivalence Principle is applied to calculate the far-field pattern of a reflectarray system. A general procedure is proposed for reflectarray antenna designs. The phase control over individual elements is realized by the element rotation technique and the variable element size technique. The examples of an X-band, a Ka-band, a C-band, and a single-layer tri-band circularly polarized reflectarray prototype have been designed, fabricated, and measured. The X-band prototype has a gain of 30.4 dB and an aperture efficiency of 53%. The axial ratio bandwidth (AR

Book Analysis and Design of Transmitarray Antennas

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Transmitarray Antennas written by Ahmed H. Abdelrahman and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2017-01-18 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, transmitarray antennas have attracted growing interest with many antenna researchers. Transmitarrays combines both optical and antenna array theory, leading to a low profile design with high gain, high radiation efficiency, and versatile radiation performance for many wireless communication systems. In this book, comprehensive analysis, new methodologies, and novel designs of transmitarray antennas are presented. Detailed analysis for the design of planar space-fed array antennas is presented. The basics of aperture field distribution and the analysis of the array elements are described. The radiation performances (directivity and gain) are discussed using array theory approach, and the impacts of element phase errors are demonstrated. The performance of transmitarray design using multilayer frequency selective surfaces (M-FSS) approach is carefully studied, and the transmission phase limit which are generally independent from the selection of a specific element shape is revealed. The maximum transmission phase range is determined based on the number of layers, substrate permittivity, and the separations between layers. In order to reduce the transmitarray design complexity and cost, three different methods have been investigated. As a result, one design is performed using quad-layer cross-slot elements with no dielectric material and another using triple-layer spiral dipole elements. Both designs were fabricated and tested at X-Band for deep space communications. Furthermore, the radiation pattern characteristics were studied under different feed polarization conditions and oblique angles of incident field from the feed. New design methodologies are proposed to improve the bandwidth of transmitarray antennas through the control of the transmission phase range of the elements. These design techniques are validated through the fabrication and testing of two quad-layer transmitarray antennas at Ku-band. A single-feed quad-beam transmitarray antenna with 50 degrees elevation separation between the beams is investigated, designed, fabricated, and tested at Ku-band. In summary, various challenges in the analysis and design of transmitarray antennas are addressed in this book. New methodologies to improve the bandwidth of transmitarray antennas have been demonstrated. Several prototypes have been fabricated and tested, demonstrating the desirable features and potential new applications of transmitarray antennas.

Book Frequency Selective Surfaces based High Performance Microstrip Antenna

Download or read book Frequency Selective Surfaces based High Performance Microstrip Antenna written by Shiv Narayan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-24 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on performance enhancement of printed antennas using frequency selective surfaces (FSS) technology. The growing demand of stealth technology in strategic areas requires high-performance low-RCS (radar cross section) antennas. Such requirements may be accomplished by incorporating FSS into the antenna structure either in its ground plane or as the superstrate, due to the filter characteristics of FSS structure. In view of this, a novel approach based on FSS technology is presented in this book to enhance the performance of printed antennas including out-of-band structural RCS reduction. In this endeavor, the EM design of microstrip patch antennas (MPA) loaded with FSS-based (i) high impedance surface (HIS) ground plane, and (ii) the superstrates are discussed in detail. The EM analysis of proposed FSS-based antenna structures have been carried out using transmission line analogy, in combination with the reciprocity theorem. Further, various types of novel FSS structures are considered in designing the HIS ground plane and superstrate for enhancing the MPA bandwidth and directivity. The EM design and performance analyses of FSS-based antennas are explained here with the appropriate expressions and illustrations.

Book Two Selected Topics Involving Theory and Applications of Infinite Arrays of Microstrip Elements

Download or read book Two Selected Topics Involving Theory and Applications of Infinite Arrays of Microstrip Elements written by Stephen Donald Targonski and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this work was to develop theory for infinite arrays of microstrip elements, and incorporate that theory into the modeling of large finite arrays. The first topic, the effect of random positioning errors on the input impedance of an infinite array of printed dipoles, utilizes the infinite array solution to gain insight into the reduction or possible elimination of scan blindness for these arrays through the international introduction of random element positioning errors. Both planar and linear infinite random arrays are examined. In the second topic, the analysis and design of a microstrip reflectarray using patches of variable size, a rigorous solution to plane wave scattering from an infinite array of microstrip patches is performed. The data from this solution is then used to design a finite sized microstrip reflectarray. Several new topics in reflectarray analysis and design are examined, including the design of millimeter wave microstrip reflect-arrays.
