This book was released on 1992 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crisis of public health: Reflections for the debate brings together an important and informative group of papers relating to the process of analysis that PAHO has fostered for the last four years. The book first looks at the programmatic priorities established by PAHO's Governing Bodies relative to this issue and then presents representative points of view from throughout the hemisphere on what constitutes the crisis as such. These latter contributions were also the object of an initial discussion held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in October 1991, which is summarized in the third part of the book. Finally, a proposed agenda for future debate at the country level is presented. The principal objective of The crisis of public health: Reflections for the debate is to stimulate publich health professionals to undertake a more thorough analysis, with the hope of effecting a change in both what is examined (broaden the object of analysis) and how it is examined (use more far-reaching analytical traditions.) Readers will realize that the book is not merely a culmination of current concern over publich health but rather a point of departure for further analysis and action.

Book Decentralizing Health Services in Mexico

Download or read book Decentralizing Health Services in Mexico written by Nuria Homedes and published by Lynne Rienner Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ?This academic but passionate and controversial work should be read by specialists on Mexico and Latin America, as well as by those interested in healthcare and social policy in general.??Carmelo Mesa-Lago, University of PittsburghHas Mexico, twenty years after beginning the process of decentralizing its health system, realized the anticipated benefits of increased community participation and improvements in efficiency and quality? Addressing this question, Decentralizing Health Services in Mexico presents a thorough historical and theoretical grounding, as well as representative case studies of decentralization at the state and local levels. The authors combine qualitative and quantitative data in their examination of the transfer of authority over fiscal, human, and physical resources in the health sector. The result is a major contribution to the ongoing debate over the advantages and disadvantages of decentralization in varying political, cultural, and economic contexts.Nuria Homedes is associate professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health-Houston. Antonio Ugalde is emeritus professor at the Department of Sociology, University of Texas at Austin. CONTENTS: Decentralization: Theory and History.
