Book Ciencias y sociedad

Download or read book Ciencias y sociedad written by Vinck, Dominique and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Comparative Education Views from Latin America

Download or read book Comparative Education Views from Latin America written by Marco Aurelio Navarro Leal and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although in Latin America there are no educational programs specialized in comparative education, as there are in some European, Oriental and North American universities, there are scholars who cultivate this field. With the production of this book, the authors -most of them affiliated to member organizations of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies- are walking towards a Latin American network of researchers with an interest in establishing a dialogue with non-Spanish speaking colleagues from the rest of the world. This is the reason of our effort in writing most of the chapters in English. Comparative education, as all disciplinary fields, has evolved with different ways of thinking, approaching and constructing its objects of research and analysis, which are nurtured by different epistemological traditions living together in our times, enriching and bringing complexities. From Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Mexico, the authors of the book pose questions, historical descriptions, reflections, discussions and cases to set forth their views.

This book fills the gap in the literature by looking at third world MNE's ability to innovate and examining the potential for their innovations to be diffused to other home country firms and thereby improve their home country's competitiveness.

Book Beyond IPM Introduction to the Theory of Holistic Pest Management

Download or read book Beyond IPM Introduction to the Theory of Holistic Pest Management written by Juan F. Barrera and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About 15 years ago, we asked ourselves why the methods developed by the research institutions for the management of pests were almost not used by small landholder farmers. It seemed obvious to us that conventional pest control –called “Integrated Pest Management”– was based on a reductionist approach. In reviewing the literature on the subject, we found that our concern was not new or unique. The agreement of some authors with our ideas reinforced our efforts to find a holistic approach to pest management. We took two central ideas to develop the holistic approach: First, pest management actions must put the farmer at the center of the system. Second, pest management must consider not only both pests but the other important components of the system in question. This approach based on the farmers and the systems in which they are immersed, is called “Holistic Pest Management” or HPM. In this book, I present the philosophy and practice of HPM, a new paradigm of pest management.

Book Impact Evaluation of Small and Medium Enterprise Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book Impact Evaluation of Small and Medium Enterprise Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Gladys Lopez Acevedo and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small and medium enterprise (SME) support programs are a common feature of industrial policy in developing countries, but one whose effectiveness is not well known. Governments are motivated to support SMEs both because they make up the majority of industrial enterprises and contribute substantially to GDP, employment and earnings, and because SMEs are thought to be weaker than their larger counterparts. Few governments, however, have evaluated their SME programs rigorously so there is little empirical basis for rational allocation of resources to the well performing programs. The paucity of empirical evidence from rigorous impact evaluations also presents problems for multi-lateral and bilateral donors in deciding whether or not to provide lending or aid for such policy interventions to promote SME development. This study rigorously evaluate SME programs in four Latin American countries to gain insights into which programs perform better than others, and just as important, why. These countries Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru cover a wide range of enterprise support programs, including training, innovation and technology upgrading, quality control, market development, export promotion and network formation. Broadly comparable panel data on enterprises is used to investigate the net impacts of these SME interventions.
