Download or read book Water Desalting Planning Guide for Water Utilities written by AWWA (American Water Works Association) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-03-25 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a select group of industry experts, under the supervision of the leading organization in water utilities, AWWA, this reference is the first practical guide to water desalination systems. Desalination is the process used to remove dissolved salts from seawater or highly-mineralized waters so that the water becomes usable for human and/or agricultural and industrial usage. This book offers authoritative guidance on the planning, design, and implementation of a successful water desalination system for public water utilities.
Download or read book Desalination written by Committee on Advancing Desalination Technology and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-08-14 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been an exponential increase in desalination capacity both globally and nationally since 1960, fueled in part by growing concern for local water scarcity and made possible to a great extent by a major federal investment for desalination research and development. Traditional sources of supply are increasingly expensive, unavailable, or controversial, but desalination technology offers the potential to substantially reduce water scarcity by converting the almost inexhaustible supply of seawater and the apparently vast quantities of brackish groundwater into new sources of freshwater. Desalination assesses the state of the art in relevant desalination technologies, and factors such as cost and implementation challenges. It also describes reasonable long-term goals for advancing desalination technology, posits recommendations for action and research, estimates the funding necessary to support the proposed research agenda, and identifies appropriate roles for governmental and nongovernmental entities.

Download or read book THERMAL POWER PLANT AND CO GENERATION PLANNING VoLUME III written by and published by EOLSS Publications. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes are a component of Encyclopedia of Water Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. These volumes discuss on Large-scale power production which requires the use of heat in a thermodynamic cycle to produce mechanical work, which in turn can generate electrical energy. Substantial quantities of fuel are hence required to sustain the production of heat. Fuel may be combustible, as in the case of fossil fuels such as coal and oil, or fissionable, as in the case of nuclear fuels such as uranium. All fuels produce waste products, which must be discharged, dumped, or stored. Such products range from innocuous water vapor to hazardous nuclear waste. These volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College Students Educators, Professional Practitioners, Research Personnel and Policy and Decision Makers

Download or read book Green Tribology written by Michael Nosonovsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-16 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tribology is the study of friction, wear and lubrication. Recently, the concept of “green tribology” as “the science and technology of the tribological aspects of ecological balance and of environmental and biological impacts” was introduced. The field of green tribology includes tribological technology that mimics living nature (biomimetic surfaces) and thus is expected to be environmentally friendly, the control of friction and wear that is of importance for energy conservation and conversion, environmental aspects of lubrication and surface modification techniques, and tribological aspects of green applications such as wind-power turbines or solar panels. This book is the first comprehensive volume on green tribology. The chapters are prepared by leading experts in their fields and cover such topics as biomimetics, environmentally friendly lubrication, tribology of wind turbines and renewable sources of energy, and ecological impact of new technologies of surface treatment.
