Book The Social Economics of Jean Baptiste Say

Download or read book The Social Economics of Jean Baptiste Say written by Evelyn L. Forget and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-01-31 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses archival and published sources to place Say in context, at the confluence of several major currents in social philosophy. The Say that emerges from this study is far from being the one dimensional popularizer of Smith and proponent of libertarian ideology that he is often depicted as. Rather he is an eighteenth-century republican trying to knit togther support for free markets and industrial development with a profound respect for the importance of the legislator, the administrator and the educator in the creation and maintenance of civil society

Book The Reception of David Ricardo in Continental Europe and Japan

Download or read book The Reception of David Ricardo in Continental Europe and Japan written by Gilbert Faccarello and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-03 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a coherent and unique collection of chapters exploring the reception and diffusion of David Ricardo’s writings in different languages. The book highlights the similarities and differences between them. This book seeks to delineate the diffusion of Ricardo's theory in various parts of Europe and Japan. While there may have been case studies about the reception of Ricardo’s thoughts for several countries, there has not yet been a systematic study of the diffusion process under consideration as a whole. This book caters to all scholars dedicated to the history of economic thought and to students who are interested to learn about the peculiarities of the evolution of economic theories in different countries. This book is the first of its kind, with no known predecessor, and it aims to shed light on how and why some of Ricardo’s writings were picked up and why others were not. Given Ricardo’s importance in the field of economics, the book will be of interest to many.

Book Industry and Labor Dynamics

Download or read book Industry and Labor Dynamics written by Roberto Leombruni and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the contributions to the first Wild@Ace conference. The acronym stands for ?Workshop on Industrial and Labor Dynamics ? The Agent-Based Computational Aproach?, and it has been the first event ever focusing on the very promising use of the agent-based simulation approach for investigation of labor economics and industrial organization issues.Agent-based models are computer models in which a multitude of agents ? each embodied in a specific software code ? interact. These agents can represent individuals households, firms, institutions, etc. Moreover, ?special? agents can be added to observe and monitor individual and collective behavior. One of the main purpose of writing an ACE model is to gain intuitions on the two-way feedback between the microstructure and the macrostructure of a phenomenon of interest. How is it that simple aggregate regularities may arise from individual disorder? Or that a nice structure at an individual level may lead to a complete absence of regularity in the aggregate? How is it that the complex interaction of very simple individuals may lead to surprisingly complicated aggregate dynamics? Or that sophisticated agents may be unable to organize themselves in any interesting way?The book includes contributions by some of the most distinguished researchers in the field, such as the economists Alan Kirman, Giovanni Dosi, Leigh Tesfatsion and Mauro Gallegati, and the sociologist Nigel Gilbert.

Book Le secteur des industries extractives

Download or read book Le secteur des industries extractives written by Håvard Halland and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Two Mediterranean Worlds

Download or read book Two Mediterranean Worlds written by Yassine Essid and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization includes complex processes, easy to identify but difficult to explain. Why, for instance, are globalizing processes so unevenly distributed between poor and wealthy countries? What effect does this uneven distribution have on the everyday lives of ordinary people? The contributors to this volume find answers to these questions in the Mediterranean, a region divided between the people of the north shore, who are engaged with Europe and modernized, and their poorer neighbours to the south, who struggle daily to atain the same standards of living and modes of governance as their more Westernized neighbours. In these two regions’ divergent histories, economies, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, education systems, and political structures lead to explanations not only for uneven globalization but also for the wave of demonstrations for political and cultural autonomy that sparked the Arab Spring in North Africa and the Near East.

Book Free Trade and its Enemies in France 1814 1851

Download or read book Free Trade and its Enemies in France 1814 1851 written by David Todd and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of the French Revolution, advocates of protection against foreign competition prevailed in a fierce controversy over international trade. This groundbreaking study is the first to examine this 'protectionist turn' in full. Faced with a reaffirmation of mercantile jealousy under the Bourbon Restoration, Benjamin Constant, Jean-Baptiste Say and regional publicists advocated the adoption of the liberty of commerce in order to consolidate the new liberal order. But after the Revolution of 1830 a new generation of liberal thinkers endeavoured to reconcile the jealousy of trade with the discourse of commercial society and political liberty. New justifications for protection oscillated between an industrialist reinvention of jealousy and an aspiration to self-sufficiency as a means of attenuating the rise of urban pauperism. A strident denunciation of British power and social imbalances served to defuse the internal tensions of the protectionist discourse and facilitated its dissemination across the French political spectrum.
