This book was released on 1999 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CE TRAVAIL SE PROPOSE D'ANALYSER LE ROMAN NEGRO-AFRICAIN D'EXPRESSION FRANCAISE A PARTIR D'UNE NOTION : LE RISIBLE, QUE J'EMPRUNTE A JEAN FOURASTIE (1983). PAR RISIBLE, IL FAUDRA ENTENDRE, TOUTES LES ACTIONS ET PAROLES QUI PRETENT A RIRE ET/OU A SOURIRE. LE RIRE EN TANT QUE PHENOMENE SOCIAL ET CULTUREL EST LIE A L'IDENTITE D'UN PEUPLE, AUX EVENEMENTS QUI L'ONT MARQUE ; SON ANALYSE EXIGE QU'ON PRENNE EN COMPTE SON CONTEXTE D'ENONCIATION. CE QUI ME CONDUIT A ADOPTER UN PLAN DIACHRONIQUE. MON EXPOSE S'ARTICULE AUTOUR DE TROIS PERIODES IMPORTANTES DE L'HISTOIRE LITTERAIRE NEGRO-AFRICAINE D'EXPRESSION FRANCAISE. LA PREMIERE PARTIE ANALYSE LES ROMANS DITS DES ANNEES 50 (MONGO BETI, FERDINAND OYONO) JUSQU'AUX ANNEES 70, AVEC YAMBO OUOLOGUEM ET AHMADOU KOUROUMA ; LA DEUXIEME ANALYSE LA DERISION DES DICTATEURS AUTOUR DES ANNEES 80 A PARTIR DES ROMANS DE SONY LABOU TANSI ET HENRI LOPES ; LA TROISIEME PARTIE, FOCALISEE SUR LES ANNEES 90, EVOQUE LA RESURGENCE DE LA MEMOIRE FRANCO-AFRICAINE EN S'APPUYANT SUR LES ROMANS DE AHMADOU KOUROUMA, TCHICAYA U TAM'SI, MASSA MAKAN DIABATE, BLAISE N'DJEHOYA, PIUS NGANDU NKASHAMA ET CALIXTHE BEYALA. NI MISERABILISTES NI MELANCOLIQUES, LES ROMANCIERS NEGRO-AFRICAINS DEVELOPPENT SYSTEMATIQUEMENT DANS LEURS TEXTES UNE CERTAINE CULTURE DE L'IRRESPECT, UN RIRE DEMYSTIFICATEUR QUI S'EN PREND A TOUTE FORME D'AUTORITE. CE QUI EST, ME SEMBLE T-IL, UNE FACON DE TOURNER LE DOS A L'AFROPESSISME AMBIANT.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L'EMERGENCE DU BOURGEOIS COMME PERSONNAGE DE ROMAN EST UNE DES CARACTERISTIQUES MAJEURES DE LA LITTERATURE AFRICAINE D'APRES LES INDEPENDANCES. LES AUTEURS DU CORPUS EN FONT UNE DESCRIPTION TYPE, RECURRENTE D'UN ROMAN A L'AUTRE. CE QU'ILS NOMMENT BOURGEOISIE AFRICAINE, C'EST LE GROUPE FORME DE PERSONNAGES POLITIQUES, QUI CUMULENT BIEN SOUVENT AUSSI DES FONCTIONS D'HOMMES D'AFFAIRES. PROFITANT DU TUMULTE DE LA LUTTE POUR L'INDEPENDANCE, LES PERSONNAGES BOURGEOIS ONT PRIS LE POUVOIR ET SE SONT MIS A DOMINER, A BRUTALISER ET A EXPLOITER LES PERSONNAGES DU PEUPLE, TOUT EN LES NOYANT SOUS UN DISCOURS AUSSI ABONDANT QUE CREUX. POUR LES SITUER DANS LE RECIT, LES AUTEURS ONT DEVELOPPE AUTOUR DE CES PERSONNAGES UN CERTAIN NOMBRE DE THEMES : CORRUPTION, POUVOIR ABSOLU, PARTI UNIQUE, NEOCOLONIALISME...QUI INSISTENT SUR LES DEFAUTS DES PERSONNAGES BOURGEOIS. L'IDEOLOGIE ANTI-BOURGEOISE APPARAIT EGALEMENT AU NIVEAU DE L'ECRITURE. UNE ECRITURE CARACTERISEE PAR LE MELANGE DE GENRE, LA NARRATION BRISEE, LA VIOLENCE DE TON, EXPRESSIONS DU MALAISE D'ECRIVAINS CONFRONTES A UNE NOUVELLE REALITE QU'ILS ENTENDENT DENONCER AVEC LA MEME VIRULENCE QU'ILS L'AVAIENT DEJA FAIT POUR LA COLONISATION.

DANS L'INTRODUCTION, IL EST SOULIGNE LE CARACTERE MALAISE DE L'ETUDE, MALAISE QUI EST DU ESSENTIELLEMENT AU FAIT QUE PRATIQUEMENT TOUS LES ROMANCIERS DONT LES OEUVRES SONT ETUDIEES VIVENT ET ECRIVENT TOUJOURS. LE SUJET EST TRAITE EN QUATRE PARTIES. LA PREMIERE PARTIE EST UNE PRESENTATION D'ENSEMBLE DU NOUVEAU ROMAN FRANCAIS. ENTRE AUTRES, IL Y EST QUESTION DES PRINCIPALES IDEES DES NOUVEAUX ROMANCIERS SUR L'EVOLUTION DU ROMAN MODERNE, SUR LA TECHNIQUE NARRATIVE ET SUR LES FORMES DU RECIT. DANS CETTE PARTIE IL EST EGALEMENT QUESTION DES DIFFICULTES ET DES RISQUES LIES A LA CREATION ROMANESQUE EN AFRIQUE. LA TROISIEME PARTIE CONCERNE LES POINTS DE SIMILITUDE QUI EXISTENT ENTRE LES DEUX PHENOMENES ROMANESQUES. IL S'AGIT ESSENTIELLEMENT DE LA LANGUE. ET LA QUATRIEME PARTIE CONCERNE LES POINTS DE DIVERGENCE QUE L'ON PEUT CONSTATER ENTRE LES DEUX TYPES DE ROMANS. CES POINTS ONT SURTOUT TRAIT A LA QUESTION DE L'ENGAGEMENT, AUROLE DU ROMANCIER ET AU ROLE DU LECTEUR. POUR CONCLURE, L'AUTEUR SOULIGNE LE FAIT QUE LE ROMAN FRANCAIS ET LE ROMAN AFRICAIN DIVERGENT SUR DES ASPECTS FONDAMENTAUX TOUT EN PRESENTANT QUELQUES ASPECTS SEMBLABLES DANS LA FORME.

Book Britain France and the Decolonization of Africa

Download or read book Britain France and the Decolonization of Africa written by Andrew W.M. Smith and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Looking at decolonization in the conditional tense, this volume teases out the complex and uncertain ends of British and French empire in Africa during the period of ‘late colonial shift’ after 1945. Rather than view decolonization as an inevitable process, the contributors together explore the crucial historical moments in which change was negotiated, compromises were made, and debates were staged. Three core themes guide the analysis: development, contingency and entanglement. The chapters consider the ways in which decolonization was governed and moderated by concerns about development and profit. A complementary focus on contingency allows deeper consideration of how colonial powers planned for ‘colonial futures’, and how divergent voices greeted the end of empire. Thinking about entanglements likewise stresses both the connections that existed between the British and French empires in Africa, and those that endured beyond the formal transfer of power.

Book Poverty and Famines

Download or read book Poverty and Famines written by Amartya Sen and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 1983-01-20 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main focus of this book is on the causation of starvation in general and of famines in particular. The author develops the alternative method of analysis—the 'entitlement approach'—concentrating on ownership and exchange, not on food supply. The book also provides a general analysis of the characterization and measurement of poverty. Various approaches used in economics, sociology, and political theory are critically examined. The predominance of distributional issues, including distribution between different occupation groups, links up the problem of conceptualizing poverty with that of analyzing starvation.

Download or read book Blue White Red written by Alain Mabanckou and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Mabanckou dazzles with technical dexterity and emotional depth” in his debut novel, winner of the Grand Prix Littéraire de l’Afrique Noire (Publishers Weekly, starred review). This tale of wild adventure reveals the dashed hopes of Africans living between worlds. When Moki returns to his village from France wearing designer clothes and affecting all the manners of a Frenchman, Massala-Massala, who lives the life of a humble peanut farmer after giving up his studies, begins to dream of following in Moki’s footsteps. Together, the two take wing for Paris, where Massala-Massala finds himself a part of an underworld of out-of-work undocumented immigrants. After a botched attempt to sell metro passes purchased with a stolen checkbook, he winds up in jail and is deported. Blue White Red is a novel of postcolonial Africa where young people born into poverty dream of making it big in the cities of their former colonial masters. Alain Mabanckou’s searing commentary on the lives of Africans in France is cut with the parody of African villagers who boast of a son in the country of Digol. Praise for Alain Mabanckou and Blue White Red “Mabanckou counts as one of the most successful voices of young African literature.” —Internationales Literaturfestival Berlin “The African Beckett.” —The Economist “Blue White Red stands at the beginning of the author’s remarkable and multifaceted career as a novelist, essayist and poet . . . this debut novel shows much of his style and substance in remarkable ways . . . Dundy’s translation is excellent.” —Africa Book Club “Mabanckou’s provocative novel probes the many facets of the ‘migration adventure.’” —Booklist

Book Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cameroon

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cameroon written by Mark Dike DeLancey and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2010-05-03 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cameroon is a country endowed with a variety of climates and agricultural environments, numerous minerals, substantial forests, and a dynamic population. It is a country that should be a leader of Africa. Instead, we find a country almost paralyzed by corruption and poor management, a country with a low life expectancy and serious health problems, and a country from which the most talented and highly educated members of the population are emigrating in large numbers. Although Cameroon has made economic progress since independence, it has not been able to change the dependent nature of its economy. The economic situation combined with the dismal record of its political history, indicate that prospects for political stability, justice, and prosperity are dimmer than they have been for most of the country's independent existence. The fourth edition of the Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cameroon has been updated to reflect advances in the study of Cameroon's history as well as to provide coverage of the years since the last edition. It relates the turbulent history of Cameroon through a chronology, an introductory essay, a bibliography, and over 600 cross-referenced dictionary entries on significant persons, events, places, organizations, and other aspects of Cameroon history from the earliest times to the present.

Book excerpt: This book represents the first multidisciplinary scientific work on a deep volcanic maar lake in comparison with other similar temperate lakes. The syntheses of the main characteristics of Lake Pavin are, for the first time, set in a firmer footing comparative approach, encompassing regional, national, European and international aquatic science contexts. It is a unique lake because of its permanently anoxic monimolimnion, and furthermore, because of its small surface area, its substantially low human influence, and by the fact that it does not have a river inflow. The book reflects the scientific research done on the general limnology, history, origin, volcanology and geological environment as well as on the geochemistry and biogeochemical cycles. Other chapters focus on the biology and microbial ecology whereas the sedimentology and paleolimnology are also given attention. This volume will be of special interest to researchers and advanced students, primarily in the fields of limnology, biogeochemistry, and aquatic ecology.

Book Education and Development in Colonial and Postcolonial Africa

Download or read book Education and Development in Colonial and Postcolonial Africa written by Damiano Matasci and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-03 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access edited volume offers an analysis of the entangled histories of education and development in twentieth-century Africa. It deals with the plurality of actors that competed and collaborated to formulate educational and developmental paradigms and projects: debating their utility and purpose, pondering their necessity and risk, and evaluating their intended and unintended consequences in colonial and postcolonial moments. Since the late nineteenth century, the “educability” of the native was the subject of several debates and experiments: numerous voices, arguments, and agendas emerged, involving multiple institutions and experts, governmental and non-governmental, religious and laic, operating from the corridors of international organizations to the towns and rural villages of Africa. This plurality of expressions of political, social, cultural, and economic imagination of education and development is at the core of this collective work.

Book Tone Orthography and Literacy

Download or read book Tone Orthography and Literacy written by David Roberts and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2021-07-15 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of a series of literacy experiments in ten Niger-Congo languages, representing four language families and spanning five countries. It asks the research question, "To what extent does full tone marking contribute to oral reading fluency, comprehension and writing accuracy, and does that contribution vary from language to language?". One of the main findings is that the ethno-literacy profile of the language community and the social profile of the individual are stronger predictors of reading and writing performance than are the linguistic and orthographic profiles of the language. Our data also suggest that full tone marking may be more beneficial for less educated readers and those with less experience of L1 literacy. The book will bring practical help to linguists and literacy specialists in Africa and beyond who are helping to develop orthographies for tone languages. It will also be of interest to cognitive psychologists exploring the reading process, and researchers investigating writing systems.
