Book Derivation of a Fokker Planck Equation for Bunched Beams Revision

Download or read book Derivation of a Fokker Planck Equation for Bunched Beams Revision written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report investigates the derivation of the Fokker-Planck equation which is used to evaluate the evolution with time of an ensemble of particles under the effect of external rf forces, cooling and forces of stochastic nature. The conventional approach based on the classical work by Chandrasekhar is first outline: here the phase angle and the momentum error of the particles are used. The method is then extended to the case the distribution function is expressed in terms of the amplitude of motion. To avoid a singularity behavior, the new Fokker-Planck equation is obtained with an averaging process over the phase distribution instead of the time-averaging. The beam lifetime in the presence of the separatrix of the rf buckets is determined. Finally, the numerical estimates apply to the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC).

Book Theory and Design of Charged Particle Beams

Download or read book Theory and Design of Charged Particle Beams written by Martin Reiser and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although particle accelerators are the book's main thrust, it offers a broad synoptic description of beams which applies to a wide range of other devices such as low-energy focusing and transport systems and high-power microwave sources. Develops material from first principles, basic equations and theorems in a systematic way. Assumptions and approximations are clearly indicated. Discusses underlying physics and validity of theoretical relationships, design formulas and scaling laws. Features a significant amount of recent work including image effects and the Boltzmann line charge density profiles in bunched beams.

Book Nonlinear Fokker Planck Equations

Download or read book Nonlinear Fokker Planck Equations written by T.D. Frank and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-08 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centered around the natural phenomena of relaxations and fluctuations, this monograph provides readers with a solid foundation in the linear and nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations that describe the evolution of distribution functions. It emphasizes principles and notions of the theory (e.g. self-organization, stochastic feedback, free energy, and Markov processes), while also illustrating the wide applicability (e.g. collective behavior, multistability, front dynamics, and quantum particle distribution). The focus is on relaxation processes in homogeneous many-body systems describable by nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations. Also treated are Langevin equations and correlation functions. Since these phenomena are exhibited by a diverse spectrum of systems, examples and applications span the fields of physics, biology and neurophysics, mathematics, psychology, and biomechanics.

Book The Physics of Intense Beams and Storage Rings

Download or read book The Physics of Intense Beams and Storage Rings written by Nicoloi Diskansky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-05-09 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market: Physicists, engineers, and advanced graduate students working with particle accelerators, storage rings, and colliders. This cogent, contemporary work by two preeminent Russian accelerator physicists details the physical processes limiting or assisting the performance of intense beams in particle accelerators. The authors apply statistical methods to the physics of stored beams and describe in rigorous detail a wide range of beam physics problems. These range from single particle dynamics, through the theory of linear coherent oscillations and cooling techniques, to the kinetic effects in intense beams and nonlinear collective phenomena.

Book Stochastic Cooling of Particle Beams

Download or read book Stochastic Cooling of Particle Beams written by Dieter Möhl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-01-08 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lecture note describes the main analytical approaches to stochastic cooling. The first is the time domain picture, in which the beam is rapidly sampled and a statistical analysis is used to describe the cooling behaviour. The second is the frequency domain picture, which is particularly useful since the observations made on the beam are mainly in this domain. This second picture is developed in detail to assess key components of modern cooling theory like mixing and signal shielding and to illustrate some of the diagnostic methods. Finally the use of a distribution function and the Fokker-Plank equation, which offer the most complete description of the beam during the cooling, are discussed.

Book Intrabeam Scattering and the Beam Life time

Download or read book Intrabeam Scattering and the Beam Life time written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fokker-Planck equation is derived to describe the time evolution of the longitudinal density distribution of a bunched hadron beam in the presence of intrabeam scattering. A computer program has been developed to numerically solve this equation. Both the beam loss and bunch-shape evolution are investigated for the 197Au{sup 79+} beams during the 10-hour storage in the proposed RHIC collider. 14 refs.

Book Magnetism and Synchrotron Radiation Towards the Fourth Generation Light Sources

Download or read book Magnetism and Synchrotron Radiation Towards the Fourth Generation Light Sources written by Eric Beaurepaire and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in the synthesis of new materials with often complex, nano-scaled structures require increasingly sophisticated experimental techniques that can probe the electronic states, the atomic magnetic moments and the magnetic microstructures responsible for the properties of these materials. At the same time, progress in synchrotron radiation techniques has ensured that these light sources remain a key tool of investigation, e.g. synchrotron radiation sources of the third generation are able to support magnetic imaging on a sub-micrometer scale. With the Sixth Mittelwihr School on Magnetism and Synchrotron Radiation the tradition of teaching the state-of-the-art on modern research developments continues and is expressed through the present set of extensive lectures provided in this volume. While primarily aimed at postgraduate students and newcomers to the field, this volume will also benefit researchers and lecturers actively working in the field.
