Download or read book Self Management of Chronic Disease written by Sabine Bährer-Kohler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-07 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will support an issue as important as self-management of chronic diseases, es- cially AD, in finding its way into the daily life of patients and their caregivers as well as into treatment worldwide. It is written for healthcare professionals, aging researchers/scientists, patients with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, managers of eldercare facilities, public health authorities, umbrella organisations of Alzheimer associations, Alzheimer associations, health care administrators, health economists and government officials. It is my pleasant duty to thank Merz Pharma (Schweiz) AG in Allschwil-Switzerland to purchase 40 copies of the book. To finish this book, a long and sometimes arduous path had to be traveled. Now that it is over, I feel profoundly thankful towards all authors for participating in this project, p- ticularly Eva Krebs-Roubicek, MD for her contribution, the three models on the cover of this book; and especially to Julie and Jean-Luc for their great understanding and loving - sistance. Sabine Bährer-Kohler, Editor of the book VII Foreword Alzheimer’s disease is one of those diseases which is steadily increasing worldwide. Treating Alzheimer’s disease is able to modify its course but does not yet cure it. Alzheimer’s disease is an enormous challenge not only for the afflicted person but also for the relatives.

Book Adolescent Risk Behavior and Self Regulation

Download or read book Adolescent Risk Behavior and Self Regulation written by Franz Resch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the idea that increasing juvenile risk behaviours – like substance abuse, nonsuicidal self-injury, and antisocial or suicidal behaviour – allow adolescents to fulfill developmental tasks like identity-formation and regulation of self-worth. Narcissistic self-exploitation, mobility tasks, flexibility and the challenges of new media exert social pressure on parental figures, distracting and putting strain on their mental resources, which in turn changes and even destroys the emotional dialogue with their offspring. If children themselves experience neglect and lack of emotional bonding - resulting in a lack of self-regulating capacities – risk behaviours are the consequence. The book combines different views in the psychological, social and metatheoretical domains. It consists of three parts: developmental problems of young people, diagnosis of risk behaviours in the nosological framework, and presentation of new morbidity with an increase in symptom prevalence. The book also discusses the threat of the acceleration of social processes and the risks of postmodern society.

Book Body Image Eating and Weight

Download or read book Body Image Eating and Weight written by Massimo Cuzzolaro and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-03 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book equips readers with the knowledge required to improve diagnosis and treatment and to implement integrated prevention programs in patients with eating and weight disorders. It does so by providing a comprehensive, up-to-date review of research findings and theoretical assumptions concerning the interface and interactions between body image and such disorders as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, other specified feeding and eating disorders, orthorexia nervosa, overweight, and obesity. After consideration of issues of definition and classification, the opening part of the book examines the concept of body image from a variety of viewpoints. A series of chapters are then devoted to the assessment of the multidimensional construct “body image”, to dysmorphophobia/body dysmorphic disorder, and to muscle dysmorphia. The third part discusses body image in people suffering from different eating disorders and/or overweight or obesity, and two final chapters focus on body image in the integrated prevention of eating disorders and obesity, and cultural differences regarding body image. The book will be of interest to all health professionals who work in the fields of psychiatry, clinical psychology, eating disorders, obesity, body image, adolescence, public health, and prevention.

Book Modeling Motherhood in Weimar Germany

Download or read book Modeling Motherhood in Weimar Germany written by Katherine E. Calvert and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2023 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Reveals how socialist discourses and psychoanalytic ideas shaped the modern models of motherhood envisioned by left-wing and socially critical women writers working in the Weimar press and literary spheres. Women's experiences and opportunities in the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) were shaped by tensions between advances in women's rights and widespread adherence to conservative notions of gender roles and women's maternal duty. This book explores these tensions, which were particularly pronounced on the political left, by analyzing socialist and socially critical women writers' interventions in contemporary debates on gender and women's role in society. For women in Weimar Germany, writing represented a subversive medium through which they could individualize reproductive politics and imagine modern models of mothering. Relatable and aspirational mothering practices and mother figures feature in the literary and journalistic texts examined in this book. Theoretical and instructional works (by Alice Rèuhle-Gerstel and Henny Schumacher) and examples from the Social Democratic women's magazine Frauenwelt demonstrate how women writers adopted and adapted emerging psychological ideas to position their texts as modern and authoritative. A close analysis of critically neglected didactic texts (by Hermynia Zur Mèuhlen, Maria Leitner, Elfriede Brèuning, and Else Kienle) and socially critical popular fiction (by Irmgard Keun, Vicki Baum, and Gabriele Tergit) exposes how women writers envisaged models of motherhood and family that were compatible with their political beliefs and modern lifestyles. This book reveals a pragmatic discourse that advocated progressive policies regarding reproductive choice and the rights of single mothers while leaving notions of women's maternal nature and duty largely unchallenged"--

Book Theory and Politics Theorie und Politik

Download or read book Theory and Politics Theorie und Politik written by K. von Beyme and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

  • Author : Max Frisch
  • Publisher : Swiss List
  • Release : 2019-09-15

Download or read book An Answer from the Silence written by Max Frisch and published by Swiss List. This book was released on 2019-09-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel by esteemed Swiss writer Max Frisch is an exploration of the question: "Why don't we live when we know we're here just this one time, just one single, unrepeatable time in this unutterably magnificent world?!" This outcry against the emptiness of ordinary everyday life uttered by the hero of Frisch's book is countered by "an answer from the silence" he meets when face-to-face with death. When An Answer from the Silence begins, the protagonist has just turned thirty and is engaged to be married and about to start work as a teacher. Frightened by the idea of settling down, he journeys to the Alps in a do-or-die effort to climb the unclimbed North Ridge, and by doing so prove he is not ordinary. But having reached the top he returns not in triumph, but in frostbitten shock, having come dangerously close to death. This highly personal early novel reflects a crisis in Frisch's own life, and perhaps because of this intimate connection, he refused to allow it to be included in his Collected Works in the 1970s. Now available in English, this distinctive book will thrill fans of Frisch's other works.
