Download or read book Walking in the Bernese Oberland written by Kev Reynolds and published by Cicerone Press Limited. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 100 walking routes in the Bernese Oberland are described in this guidebook, suitable for all abilities from short flat walks to adventurous treks. Routes range from 2 to 24km in a region that boasts famous peaks such as the Eiger, Monch and the Jungfrau. But there are lesser-known mountains, too, that are just as scenically dramatic. Add to that the romantic valleys, lakes, flower-filled meadows and a network of mountain huts and rustic inns and you'll understand why the Bernese Alps seduce the hiker back year after year. The guide is divided into nine chapters: Haslital, Lutschental, Lauterbrunnental, Kiental, Kandertal, Engstligental, Ober Simmental, Lauenental and Saanental, with a regional focus around Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Gsteig and Meiringen, Kandersteg, Griesalp and others. The layout of this guide follows an east-west convention, beginning with the Haslital and working west from valley to valley as far as Col du Pillon below Les Diablerets. Additionally, the guidebook includes useful practical information on getting to and around the region, where to stay and how to prepare for a trip into the Bernese Alps.

Download or read book Gefangenenloskauf im Mittelmeerraum written by Heike Grieser and published by Georg Olms Verlag. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Slave redemption and prisoner redemption characterised the Mediterranean region from antiquity to the early modern age. Closely connected with the history of slavery, these phenomena not only represent different facets of the efforts to end slavery but are also in themselves a decisive part of various histories of conflict and relationships. The fourteen essays in this volume, originally presented at an international conference in Paderborn sponsored by the DFG in September 2013, examine the theme for the first time in terms of the fundamental question of the significance of religion. Taking a broad chronological sweep they examine, from Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspectives, the practice and justification of redeeming slaves from the hands of those of other faiths. Thus the theological and historical discourses in each of the three Abrahamic religions are analysed and the links between them established where possible. The approach also adds the perspective of religious history to the previously dominant social and economic approaches to slave redemption, opening up a new and greatly promising field of research.

Download or read book Eisenbahn Kultur written by Günter Dinhobl and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Railway continues to be a 'fascinating phenomenon' (European Commission-DG TREN, 2004) and represent a mixture of ancient and modern. This first industrial transportation technology caused not only a mobility never known before, but it shaped public and private life in the country as well as in cities. Above that, as does no other technical innovation it symbolizes the process of industrialization and modernization. Especially in the wake of an extended notion of culture there are potentialities to surpass an inherent history of technology and to re-think about the relationship between railway and culture. Therefore, in 2001 the workshop-series "Eisenbahn/Kultur - Railway/Culture" was organized at the IFF in Vienna (Austria). This special volume brings together nearly all papers and depicts the very wide range of the subject. Furthermore, this anthology will encourage to continue such research topics beyond all disciplinary boarders.
