Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The proposed edited book on Women Empowerment: Challenges and Strategies, deals with the problems associated with the women community suffering from marginalization and the ways to address their identity and human rights concerns. The status of women in every nation was deprived and never considered. They were considered as mere machines to fulfill mere different duties. During ancient ages, we can see the evolution of changing and taking new perspectives. The concept of female in Manusmriti and in Puranas of considering them as dependents and deities is contradictory. There are still places where women are still considered as deprived and are still under chains it is the duty of the privileged to empower the underprivileged.Women empowerment programs failed as they overlooked the structural factors that perpetuated oppression and exploitation. The fulfillment of practical needs such as food, health care, and education cannot empower women unless the long-term strategic needs are met. The process of empowerment requires a transformation of structures of sub ordinance, control over material and intellectual resources, gaining decisions, making authority and reduction of gender inequality. The present book is the collection of Twenty-two research papers enlightens and thought-provoking articles contributed by research scholars throwing light on the women empowerment and role of religion and policies, women and nutrition, gender sensitization, role of education, status of working women in unorganized sector, role of media and NGO in promoting women empowerment, empowerment of Indian women –a challenge of 21st century, life skills and older women with reference to old age homes, depiction of women in literature and Marginalization of Women Characters in literature, social organization and woman empowerment and entrepreneurshipThe book will be an important reference source for scholars in the fields of rights of the marginalized sections, rights of the women, the role of education & practice and gender studies. India's Tenth Five Year Plan (2002-07) called for a three-pronged strategy of social empowerment, economic empowerment, and providing gender justice to create a positive environment of economic, and social policies for women, and eliminating all forms of discrimination against them. The government of India has initiated various schemes spread across a broad spectrum, such as women's need for shelter, security, safety, legal aid, justice, information, maternal health, food, nutrition etc., as well as their need for economic sustenance through skill development, education, and access to credit and marketing. In order to address the phenomenon of domestic violence, which is widely prevalent but remains largely invisible in the public domain, the Protection from Domestic Violence Act, 2006 was enacted by the Indian Parliament. Book Women Empowerment and Socio economic Development

Download or read book Women Empowerment and Socio economic Development written by Kartick Das and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empowerment of women through gainful employment is a constituent - as well as instrument - of development in any country. No country can be deemed developed if half of its population is severely disadvantaged in terms of basic needs, livelihood options, access to knowledge and political voice. A natural corollary of ensuring gender equality is the elimination of gender discrimination. Women's lack of economic empowerment not only impedes growth and poverty reduction, but also has a host of other negative impacts including less favourable education and health outcomes for children. Thus, it is extremely important to ensure that women are economically, socially and politically empowered. Effective and coordinated plans and programmes for the full implementation of women-oriented policies require a clear research-based knowledge of ground realities of the socio-economic status of women, particularly rural women. This volume is the outcome of the findings of academicians and researchers from different disciplines. The 11 papers included in this work throw light on various dimensions of women empowerment in India. Book Women Status and Empowerment in India

Download or read book Women Status and Empowerment in India written by Shyam Kartik Mishra and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to India's 2011 Census, the country's population has increased by 17.6% since 2001. The Census shows that 51.6% of the population is male, while 48.4% is female. Unfortunately, the 2011 Census data also shows that the gender ratio for children below six years has dropped. This decline is unabated since the 1961 Census. This gender bias draws attention to a lingering societal flaw which economic growth has not been able to correct. Gender equality is a constituent of development, as well as an instrument of development. No country can be deemed developed if half of its population is severely disadvantaged in terms of basic needs, livelihood options, access to knowledge, and political voice. The advancement and empowerment of women in India has been a leading objective of state policy ever since the attainment of Independence in 1947. India's Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-2012) recognized women, for the first time, not just as equal citizens, but as agents of economic and social growth. Women's lack of economic empowerment not only impedes growth and poverty reduction, but also has a host of other negative impacts, including less favorable education and health outcomes for children. Thus, it is extremely important to ensure that women are economically, socially, and politically empowered. This book provides a vivid account of the problems faced by Indian women, particularly those belonging to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. It explains the various policies, programs, and schemes initiated by the government of India, in co-operation with other agencies for the welfare, development, and empowerment of women.

  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book Empowering Women written by Sakuntala Narasimhan and published by Sage Publications Pvt Limited. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conventional approaches to women's empowerment are based on the twin assumption that alleviation of poverty will automatically lead to their empowerment and that the major constraint on programmes for upliftment is monetary. The result of five decades of planning, however, has shown that economic assistance by itself does not necessarily improve the status of women. Dr Sakuntala Narasimhan argues that the more vital inhibiting factors leading to the disadvantaged position of women are their ignorance, powerlessness and vulnerability. This immensely insightful book emphasis the need for bringing about an attitudinal change among women as the most important step towards empowerment. Dr Narasimhan focuses specifically on rural scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe women, who, she says, fare triply disadvantaged as women, as members of the rural section of the populace and because of their low - caste status. The book compares the effectiveness of state initiatives with motivation - and - conscientisation strategy advocated by AWARE (Action for Welfare and Awakening in Rural Environment), a non - governmental development organisation working in 6,000 villages spread over seven states in India. It analyses the success of AWARE's work among women through various case studies and concludes that, besides monetary resources, it is the mindset of the policy makers, bureaucrats and particularly the women concerned that must change in order to assist the empowerment of women. This pioneering book provides a refreshing perspective on an issue that has long been a topic of discussion among theorists of development as well as activists. It will be of interests to policy makers, bureaucrats, non-governmental organisations, social workers and those in the fields of development studies, gender studies and sociology.
