Book Depositional Models of Shelf and Shoreline Sandstones

Download or read book Depositional Models of Shelf and Shoreline Sandstones written by Thomas F. Moslow and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lecture course is designed to provide geologic insights towards the development of depositional and exploration models for sandstone reservoirs associated with one or more of a variety of shelf and shoreline environmental settings. Sedimentologic and stratigraphic criteria are used to predict more accurately the subsurface distribution and trend of reservoir quality sandstones. Equally important in the development of models for shelf and shoreline sandstones is the subsurface analysis of modern depositional systems.

Book Recent Advances in Models of Siliciclastic Shallow marine Stratigraphy

Download or read book Recent Advances in Models of Siliciclastic Shallow marine Stratigraphy written by Gary J. Hampson and published by SEPM Soc for Sed Geology. This book was released on 2008 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Siliciclastic shallow-marine deposits record the interface between land and sea, and its response to a variety of forcing mechanisms: physical process regime, the internal dynamics of coastal and shelfal depositional systems, relative sea level, sediment flux, tectonic setting, and climate. These deposits have long been the subject of conceptual stratigraphic models that seek to explain the interplay between these various forcing mechanisms, and their preservation in the stratigraphic record. This volume arose from an SEPM research conference on shoreline-shelf stratigraphy that was held in Grand Junction, Colorado, on August 24-28, 2004. The aim of the resulting volume is to highlight the development over the last 15 years of the stratigraphic concepts and models that are used to interpret siliciclastic marginal-marine, shallow-marine, and shelf deposits.

Book Shelf Sand and Sandstone Bodies

Download or read book Shelf Sand and Sandstone Bodies written by D. Swift and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-06 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade of study of the shallow-marine boundary layer has arrived at a synthesis of sediment dynamic principles that can begin to be transferred from the time scales of the rock record (years to millenia). At the same time, the technology of petroleum exploration has lead to a fundamentally new way of examining the deposits of sedimentary basins. This book applies these insights to continental shelf and continental margin deposits, providing an entirely new viewpoint to the subject.

Book Dynamics of Multiscale Earth Systems

Download or read book Dynamics of Multiscale Earth Systems written by Horst J. Neugebauer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-26 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many aspects science becomes conducted nowadays through technology and preferential criteria of economy. Thus investigation and knowledge is evidently linked to a speci?c purpose. Especially Earth science is confronted with two major human perspectives concerning our natural environment:sustainability of resources and assessment of risks. Both aspects are expressing urgent needs of the living society, but in the same way those needs are addressing a long lasting fundamental challenge which has so far not been met. Following on the patterns of economy and technology, the key is presumed to be found through a devel- mentoffeasibleconceptsforamanagement ofbothournaturalenvironmentand in one or the other way the realm of life. Although new techniques for obser- tion and analysis led to an increase of rather speci?c knowledge about particular phenomena, yet we fail now even more frequently to avoid unforeseen impli- tions and sudden changes of a situation. Obviously the improved technological tools and the assigned expectations on a management of nature still exceed our traditional scienti?c experience and accumulated competence. Earth- and Life- Sciences are nowadays exceedingly faced with the puzzling nature of an almost boundless network of relations, i. e. , the complexity of phenomena with respect to their variability. The disciplinary notations and their particular approaches arethusnolongeraccountingsu?cientlyfortherecordedcontextofphenomena, for their permanent variability and their unpredictable implications. The large environmental changes of glacial climatic cycles, for instance, demonstrate this complexity of such a typical phenomenology.

Book Principles of Sedimentary Basin Analysis

Download or read book Principles of Sedimentary Basin Analysis written by Andrew D. Miall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 893 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past five years there have been many advances in the field of basin analysis. Developments such as the publication of new stratigraphic codes; new research in fission-track dating; evolution of thought regarding the importance of tectonic versus eustatic controls of regional and global cycles; and refinements of geophysically-based, basin-subsidence models have necessitated the publication of a second edition of Principles of Sedimentary Basin Analysis. Like the first edition, this book emphasizes the stratigraphic evidence which geologists can actually see in outcrops, well records, and core samples and can gather using geophysical techniques. Principles of Sedimentary Basin Analysis is both an excellent text for students and a practical handbook for professional geologists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sedimentary Environments is one of the most distinguished and influential textbooks in the earth sciences published in the last 20 years. The first and second editions both won universal praise and became classic works in sedimentology. Since the publication of the last edition, the study of sedimentary environments and facies has made great strides, with major advances in facies modelling, sequence stratigraphy and basin modelling. The 3rd edition of this classic text will likely set the benchmark even higher, and needless to say, will continue being the textbook of choice for sedimentology students. The latest edition of a classic text. Incorporates all the latest advances in dynamic stratigraphy. Will remain the textbook of choice for upper level undergraduate and graduate students in sedimentology.
