Book Italian futurism and the machine

Download or read book Italian futurism and the machine written by Katia Pizzi and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-24 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first interdisciplinary exploration of machine culture in Italian futurism after the First World War. The machine was a primary concern for the futuristi. As well as being a material tool in the factory it was a social and political agent, an aesthetic emblem, a metonymy of modernity and international circulation and a living symbol of past crafts and technologies. Exploring literature, the visual and performing arts, photography, music and film, the book uses the lens of European machine culture to elucidate the work of a broad set of artists and practitioners, including Censi, Depero, Marinetti, Munari and Prampolini. The machine emerges here as an archaeology of technology in modernity: the time machine of futurism.

Book Depero new Depero Ediz italiana e inglese

Download or read book Depero new Depero Ediz italiana e inglese written by Nicoletta Boschiero and published by Silvana Editoriale. This book was released on 2022-03-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The word new in the title of this volume represents Fortunato Depero's predisposition to innovation and the continuous transformation of his ideas, but also the influence he was able to offer both to designers of the eighties - above all Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini - and to New Futurist artists - Abate, Innocente, Lodola, Postal and Plumcake - who wisely mix Futurism, Pop Art and Kitsch.0The Depero effect can also be seen in artists such as Ugo Nespolo and Matteo Thun, who give life to effective Deperian advertising reworkings for the merchandising of the Campari company, as well as in avant-garde comics with designers such as Echaurren, Giacon, Carpinteri, who starting from the eighties have resumed - often ironically - the stylistic features of Depero.0In the 2000s, interest in films and videos grew - often centered on the exemplary life of the artist from Rovereto, which has been reconstructed thanks to the documents kept in the Depero collection - which allow in-depth research work, as in the case of Il sogno di Alberto (2011), a video installation on four screens directed by N! 03, Depero, Rovereto, New York e altre storie (2015) by Nello Correale, and finally New York film vissuto from 2020, conceived by the Istituto Barlumen specifically for the exhibition. 00Exhibition: Mart, Rovereto, Italy (21.10.2021 - 13.02.2022).

Book Italian Modern Art in the Age of Fascism

Download or read book Italian Modern Art in the Age of Fascism written by Anthony White and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the work of several modern artists, including Fortunato Depero, Scipione, and Mario Radice, who were working in Italy during the time of Benito Mussolini’s rise and fall. It provides a new history of the relationship between modern art and fascism. The study begins from the premise that Italian artists belonging to avant-garde art movements, such as futurism, expressionism, and abstraction, could produce works that were perfectly amenable to the ideologies of Mussolini’s regime. A particular focus of the book is the precise relationship between ideas of history and modernity encountered in the art and politics of the time and how compatible these truly were.
