Book Museum Marketization

Download or read book Museum Marketization written by Karin M. Ekström and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide-ranging book explores the impact of marketization on the creative industries. With critical perspectives from a variety of disciplines and global experts, numerous examples from international cultural institutions are employed to illuminate the topic. Culture and business have become increasingly intertwined, and cultural institutions need to be aware of their place in the market. Commercial awareness, which was previously disparaged, is now seen as a legitimate and necessary response to increased competition, enhancing experience, increasing accessibility, broadening inclusivity and sustainable futures with diminishing funding. The contributions to this book highlight that marketing, public relations, sponsorship and fundraising have become integral to the survival of many museums, galleries and events. Of interest to students and scholars across topics such as arts marketing, arts administration, heritage marketing and museum studies, the book is also insightful for reflective practitioners in the creative sector.

Book Play and playfulness for public health and wellbeing

Download or read book Play and playfulness for public health and wellbeing written by Alison Tonkin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of play in human and animal development is well established, and its educational and therapeutic value is widely supported in the literature. This innovative book extends the play debate by assembling and examining the many pieces of the play puzzle from the perspective of public health. It tackles the dual aspects of art and science which inform both play theory and public health policy, and advocates for a ‘playful’ pursuit of public health, through the integration of evidence from parallel scientific and creative endeavors. Drawing on international research evidence, the book addresses some of the major public health concerns of the 21st century – obesity, inactivity, loneliness and mental health – advocating for creative solutions to social disparities in health and wellbeing. From attachment at the start of life to detachment at life’s ending, in the home and in the workplace, and across virtual and physical environments, play is presented as vital to the creation of a new ‘culture of health’. This book represents a valuable resource for students, academics, practitioners and policy-makers across a range of fields of interest including play, health, the creative arts and digital and environmental design.

Book building culture procurement of UK arts construction

Download or read book building culture procurement of UK arts construction written by Walter Menteth and published by Project Compass CIC. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: building culture describes how cultural buildings are conceived and procured, through a review of data, case studies and interrogation of the processes - an invaluable resource for anyone commissioning arts and cultural buildings in the UK. building culture is a uniquely comprehensive investigation that offers research, guidance, analysis of Covid impacts and recommendations for communities, arts professionals, commissioners, clients, architects, project teams and policy makers for future best practice. building culture contains: · Contributions by eminent architects, competition programmers and a client · Unique data analysis of the procurement processes of the sector · Arts funding guidance and procurement analysis · Resources and references. building culture looks at the procurement data for 421 arts and heritage capital projects across the UK between 2013 and 2018 to establish what procurement route was taken, what guidance was provided and by whom, who were the consultants appointed, some examples of best practice and some less good, and lessons learnt. Based on this evidence and previous research, building culture then makes recommendations for the key funding bodies and those advising or undertaking arts and heritage capital procurement and projects. In order to understand the landscape of arts and cultural buildings and their procurement it has also been required to understand the funding ecology and specifically that of the national arts funding bodies. This is seen in the light of the current context as the sector responds to Covid, Brexit, austerity and the future challenges of a Climate Emergency. “Building Culture is a comprehensive survey and commentary of the processes and power of cultural development and its reach across the United Kingdom. The authors … then present some of the urgent and important challenges and issues of our time … expertly framed through a diverse set of exemplar projects as case studies … situated … within the complex … world of planning, policy, and funding regimes. The result will prove an essential resource to students, practitioners and others looking to understand the world of cultural development with all its many challenges and opportunities … The recommendations the authors present to us here are central to a dialogue which is much needed about the values and principles needed for our society in the future.” Donald Hyslop, Chair of Creative and Cultural Skills UK. “This in-depth study of how cultural spaces are conceived and procured is hugely valuable to clients and design teams who often work in seeming isolation creating and adapting projects … It is especially valuable as returning from the pandemic we can appreciate the strategic and symbolic significance of cultural spaces and their role in coalescing places and sustaining relationships between people. The impressive depth and span of evidence gathered demonstrates how we could invest more wisely with a greater common understanding of the processes that prepare the ground for inspiring, robust and sustainable cultural buildings. The case studies demonstrate how this is done well.” Juliet Bidgood, Architect and RIBA Client Adviser.

  • Author : Kate Bedford
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2019-09-26
  • ISBN : 0192583875

Download or read book Bingo Capitalism written by Kate Bedford and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-26 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Casinos are often used by political economists, and popular commentators, to think critically about capitalism. Bingo - an equal chance numbers game played in many parts of the world - is overlooked in these conversations about gambling and political economy. Bingo Capitalism challenges that omission by asking what bingo in England and Wales can teach us about capitalism and the regulation of everyday gambling economies. The book draws on official records of parliamentary debate, case law, regulations and in-depth interviews with both bingo players and workers to offer the first socio-legal account of this globally significant and immensely popular pastime. It explores the legal and political history of bingo and how gender shapes, and is shaped by, diverse state rules on gambling. It also sheds light on the regulation of workers, players, products, places, and technologies. In so doing it adds a vital new dimension to accounts of UK gambling law and regulation. Through Bingo Capitalism, Bedford makes a key theoretical contribution to our understanding of the relationship between gambling and political economy, showing the role of the state in supporting and then eclipsing environments where gambling played a key role as mutual aid. In centring the regulatory entanglement between vernacular play forms, self-organised membership activity, and corporate leisure experiences, she offers a fresh vision of gambling law from the everyday perspective of bingo.

  • Author : Victoria Durrer
  • Publisher : Springer Nature

  • Pages : 353 pages

Download or read book Managing Culture written by Victoria Durrer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides new insights into the relationship of the field of arts and cultural management and cultural rights on a global scale. Globalisation and internationalisation have facilitated new forms for exchange between individuals, professions, groups, localities and nations in arts and cultural management. Such exchanges take place through the devising, programming, exhibition, staging, marketing, and administration of project activities. They also take place through teaching and learning within higher education and cultural institutions, which are now internationalised practices themselves. With a focus on the fine, visual and performing arts, the book positions arts and cultural management educators and practitioners as active agents whose decisions, actions and interactions represent how we, as a society, approach, relate to, and understand ourselves and others. This consideration of education and practice as socialisation processes with global, political and social implications will be an invaluable resource to academics, practitioners and students engaging in arts and cultural management, cultural policy, cultural sociology, global and postcolonial studies.

Book Education System Design

Download or read book Education System Design written by Brian Hudson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights decisions governments have to make about their public education systems, the options they have before them and the consequences of their decisions. As well as covering issues such as values, curriculum, teacher training, structures and so on, the book addresses education planning for epidemics, pandemics and disasters. Education systems provide the foundations for the future wellbeing of every society, yet existing systems are a point of global concern. Education System Design is a response to debates in developing and developed countries about the characteristics of a high-quality national education service. It questions what makes a successful system of education. With chapters that draw on experience in education systems around the world, each one considers an element of a national education service and its role in providing a coherent and connected set of structures to ensure good education for all members of society. Key topics include: Existing education systems and what a future system might look like Inclusion and social justice Leadership and teacher education Policy options, and the consequences of policy changes This book suggests an education system be viewed as an ecosystem with interdependencies between many different components needing to be considered when change is contemplated. It is a vital book for any stakeholders in educational systems including students, teachers and senior leaders. It would be particularly useful to policy makers and those implementing policy changes.
