Book excerpt: The history of Denton County, founded in 1846, has been well preserved through postcards. These images, produced from vintage photographs and artist renditions, reflect a time when communication through postcards was quicker, easier, and less expensive than writing a letter. Inside this book, readers are treated to charming snapshots of local history depicting churches, the downtown public square, businesses, public schools, the two newly created universities, railroad depots, trolleys, the earliest automobiles, and some of Denton Countys most familiar town views and tourist attractions.

Download or read book History and Reminiscences of Denton County Classic Reprint written by Ed F. Bates and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History and Reminiscences of Denton County In writing the history of Denton County and her pioneers, the task was found hard because of the fragmentary nature of her written history, and, on account of having to harmonize the discrepancies in her traditional history as related by the re maining pioneers. All of the early public records of the county. Were destroyed Christmas week, 1875, when the courthouse burned. Much of the county's traditionary history hasbeen consigned with her pioneers to the grave. The gathering and collecting of facts and the elimination of fiction have had our most careful at tention. But where so many conflicts in statements existed, some errors reasonably may be expected. And when writing of Den? Ton County we' must begin with it in its unorganized form as the western frontier of Fannin County; and share and share alike with all the counties carved out of this common territory, we must begin with its first settlement. The North American In dian claimed it as his hunting grounds; the Republic of Texas claimed it as her public domain, and through her agents, the Peters Colony, was making title, and a conflict at birth was on. Book Flora of the Upper Cretaceous Woodbine Sand in Denton County Texas

This book was released on 2007-12 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1941 author MacNeal undertook to explore the western edge of outcrop of the Woodbine, which runs northeast to southwest through the eastern central part of Denton County, Texas. Here the Dexter sand member, a near-shore, largely non-marine deposit, was laid down before the transgressing Late Cretaceous sea had pushed the shore line to the northeastward to lay down the higher marine Lewisville beds. Not far within the western margin of the Woodbine belt, in the vicinity of the county seat, Denton, MacNeal found plant-bearing beds in four localities, & collected fossiliferous surface material in two other localities. He also found limited material in two localities outside Denton County, although no extended exploration was made. 36 plates.
