The story tells of his adventuresome, humanistic, and sometimes humorous involvements in his life through traveling, music, and professional leadership with people and organizations. Dr. Oo from Burma spoke to Denny and called him a change agent. The work he had accomplished would change the engineering education system for the third world developing country in years to come. However, Denny should not expect to see or hear of any changes for several years because the changes would not happen very quickly. Again he said You have been and are a Change Agent. Denny knew a light bulb had just clicked on inside his mind as he realized a total stranger from half way around the world just explained what his mission was all about and what his mission in life was to become. He then turned and asked his wife, Where is Burma?

Book Why Demography Matters

Download or read book Why Demography Matters written by Danny Dorling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-12-08 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demography is not destiny. As Giacomo Casanova explained over two centuries ago: 'There is no such thing as destiny. We ourselves shape our own lives.' Today we are shaping them and our societies more than ever before. Globally, we have never had fewer children per adult: our population is about to stabilize, though we do not know when or at what number, or what will happen after that. It will be the result of billions of very private decisions influenced in turn by multiple events and policies, some more unpredictable than others. More people are moving further around the world than ever before: we too often see that as frightening, rather than as indicating greater freedom. Similarly, we too often lament greater ageing, rather than recognizing it as a tremendous human achievement with numerous benefits to which we must adapt. Demography comes to the fore most positively when we see that we have choices, when we understand variation and when we are not deterministic in our prescriptions. The study of demography has for too long been dominated by pessimism and inhuman, simplistic accounting. As this fascinating and persuasive overview demonstrates, how we understand our demography needs to change again.

Jason’s Destiny is a story about a journey. The journey of a little boy who at the age of five is forced to flee the only home he ever knew to the streets of Rim Town. There he and Cole, his older brother, would start their new lives. But unknown by them they were marked boys. Little did they suspect that everything they thought they knew was a lie carefully orchestrated by the most powerful beings in the universe, the Ancients. They were so powerful they could destroy planets and stars with the power of their minds. Nothing and no one could stand before them, but something was stirring. Something even they feared and Jason was their only hope. Jason was their creation. It had taken them over three thousand years of trial and error. The genes of the greatest and most powerful Ancients flowed in Jason’s veins, but also something else simply referred to as the X-factor. Jason is compelled to seek them out in order to learn the secret of their power and after many failed encounters he finally finds the “one” and now the real journey begins. A journey that will take Jason to the ends of the universe, across dimensions, and through time itself. Along the way he would find friendship and love, but most importantly he would find himself and why that would mean so much to so many.

Book Does My Voice Matter

Download or read book Does My Voice Matter written by Cynthia James and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-09-27 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a critical and oftentimes violent world. People are afraid to talk about what they feel, think, or believe. They withhold energy for fear of being ridiculed, punished, or excluded. They hide their deepest dreams and desires away and cover them up with doubt, insecurity, old experiences, and fears. Cynthia James know this—because that was her experience. Covering seven decades of living, traveling, and growing, Does My Voice Matter? follows James’s journey of self-discovery and authenticity as she gradually recognizes that she has a voice—and learns how to use it. She uses her own life experiences as a backdrop for her exploration of how the voice is used as a tool of engagement; how a singular or collective voice can enhance empowerment, transparency, and accountability; and, finally, how expression can develop new ideas, shift cultures, political views, transform organizations, create laws, and improve lives. Written for anyone who wants to discover the power within that makes them special, Does My Voice Matter? has a vital message: Uniqueness is your own glorious imprint on this planet, and it is calling you to come out. It doesn’t matter if your awakening is large or small, it doesn’t matter what your age, race, religion, or history is—anyone can begin right where they are, right now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a horrific smashup on the interstate, Danny inexplicably acquires the ability to foretell and experience specific moments from others' future lives. This gift destroys his marriage and pushes him to the brink of madness. He finds solace and release as a soothsayer in the back room of the Tree of Life Book Shoppe, handing out tidbits from the futures of his largely narcissistic clients. Kristi, a Tarot reader extraordinaire at the shop, has known since she was an adolescent visited by strange beings who might be goddesses or aliens—who's to say—that she can cast spells that transform peoples' lives, sometimes with disastrous results. When she sets her sights on Danny to win his love, she makes a deal with the Triple Goddess—his love for the pair's help in fulfilling a wish of the goddess's own, to save the planet from its inevitable demise from human hands. Thus begins The Soothsayer & the Changeling in which the varied self-absorbed lives of a stunning beauty, a no-talent screenwriter, a bereaved Christian widow, a disgraced professor, an over-medicated depressive, and a lonely mountain boy with a way with animals are woven together to yield a dream of doom to awaken the slumbering world before it's too late. Promising epiphany over apocalypse, The Soothsayer & the Changeling pits our deeply personal obsessive lives against a dying planet upon which all our dreams depend, and offers the possibility of hope and love.

Book excerpt: "One thing I learned from Sun Ra is that you take him lightly at your own peril. He spoke of serious things, and needs to be taken seriously. The time is right for a new book on Ra, and Thomas Stanley's is the right book. You can never be certain with Sun Ra, but I'm betting he'd have loved it." -John Szwed, author of Space is the Place: The Lives and Times of Sun Ra "Sun Ra has an intrinsic instinct of music as language...there is a sense of language being transmitted as code - and this also translates from a trans-African type of construct to something that could be construed as signals being sent in outer space...he turns everything upside down in a gnostic type of way, and his synthesis is one of the few and unique blends of jazz and mysticism." Matthew Shipp, pianist, composer, bandleader

Book Encountering the Goddess

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thomas B. Coburn
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 1991-04-23
  • ISBN : 0791499316
  • Pages : 276 pages

Download or read book Encountering the Goddess written by Thomas B. Coburn and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1991-04-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coburn provides a fresh and careful translation from the Sanskrit of this fifteen-hundred-year-old text. Drawing on field work and literary evidence, he illuminates the process by which the Devī-Māhātmya has attracted a vast number of commentaries and has become the best known Goddess-text in modern India, deeply embedded in the ritual of Goddess worship (especially in Tantra). Coburn answers the following questions among others: Is this document "scripture?" How is it that this text mediates the presence of the Goddess? What can we make of contemporary emphasis on oral recitation of the text rather than study of its written form? One comes away from Coburn's work with a sense of the historical integrity or wholeness of an extremely important religious development centered on a "text." The interaction between the text and later philosophical and religious developments such as those found in Advaita Vedanta and Tantra is quite illuminating. Relevant here are the issues of the writtenness and orality/aurality of 'scripture,' and the various ways by which a deposit of holy words such as the Devī-Māhātmya becomes effective, powerful, and inspirational in the lives of those who hold it sacred.
