Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the most important mathematical methods, the Dempster-Shafer (D-S) evidence theory has been widely used in date fusion, risk assessment, target identification, knowledge reasoning, and other fields. This paper summarized the development and recent studies of the explanations of D-S model, evidence combination algorithms, and the improvement of the conflict during evidence combination, and also compared all explanation models, algorithms, improvements, and their applicable conditions. We are trying to provide a reference for future research and applications through this summarization.

Book On The Validity of Dempster Shafer Theory

Download or read book On The Validity of Dempster Shafer Theory written by Jean Dezert and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We challenge the validity of Dempster-Shafer Theory by using an emblematic example to show that DS rule produces counter-intuitive result. Further analysis reveals that the result comes from a understanding of evidence pooling which goes against the common expectation of this process. Although DS theory has attracted some interest of the scientific community working in information fusion and artificial intelligence, its validity to solve practical problems is problematic, because it is not applicable to evidences combination in general, but only to a certain type situations which still need to be clearly identified.

Book A Mathematical Theory of Evidence

Download or read book A Mathematical Theory of Evidence written by Glenn Shafer and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both in science and in practical affairs we reason by combining facts only inconclusively supported by evidence. Building on an abstract understanding of this process of combination, this book constructs a new theory of epistemic probability. The theory draws on the work of A. P. Dempster but diverges from Depster's viewpoint by identifying his "lower probabilities" as epistemic probabilities and taking his rule for combining "upper and lower probabilities" as fundamental. The book opens with a critique of the well-known Bayesian theory of epistemic probability. It then proceeds to develop an alternative to the additive set functions and the rule of conditioning of the Bayesian theory: set functions that need only be what Choquet called "monotone of order of infinity." and Dempster's rule for combining such set functions. This rule, together with the idea of "weights of evidence," leads to both an extensive new theory and a better understanding of the Bayesian theory. The book concludes with a brief treatment of statistical inference and a discussion of the limitations of epistemic probability. Appendices contain mathematical proofs, which are relatively elementary and seldom depend on mathematics more advanced that the binomial theorem.

Book A novel decision probability transformation method based on belief interval

Download or read book A novel decision probability transformation method based on belief interval written by Zhan Deng and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Dempster–Shafer evidence theory, the basic probability assignment (BPA) can effectively represent and process uncertain information. How to transform the BPA of uncertain information into a decision probability remains a problem to be solved. In the light of this issue, we develop a novel decision probability transformation method to realize the transition from the belief decision to the probability decision in the framework of Dempster–Shafer evidence theory. The newly proposed method considers the transformation of BPA with multi-subset focal elements from the perspective of the belief interval, and applies the continuous interval argument ordered weighted average operator to quantify the data information contained in the belief interval for each singleton. Afterward, we present an approach to calculate the support degree of the singleton based on quantitative data information. According to the support degree of the singleton, the BPA of multi-subset focal elements is allocated reasonably. Furthermore, we introduce the concepts of probabilistic information content in this paper, which is utilized to evaluate the performance of the decision probability transformation method. Eventually, a few numerical examples and a practical application are given to demonstrate the rationality and accuracy of our proposed method.

Book Generalized combination rule for evidential reasoning approach and Dempster Shafer theory of evidence

Download or read book Generalized combination rule for evidential reasoning approach and Dempster Shafer theory of evidence written by Yuan-Wei Du and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dempster–Shafer (DS) theory of evidence can combine evidence with one parameter. The evidential reasoning (ER) approach is an extension of DS theory that can combine evidence with two parameters (weights and reliabilities). However, it has three infeasible aspects: reliability dependence, unreliability effectiveness, and intergeneration inconsistency.

Book excerpt: This first textbook on formal concept analysis gives a systematic presentation of the mathematical foundations and their relations to applications in computer science, especially in data analysis and knowledge processing. Above all, it presents graphical methods for representing conceptual systems that have proved themselves in communicating knowledge. The mathematical foundations are treated thoroughly and are illuminated by means of numerous examples, making the basic theory readily accessible in compact form.

Book Belief Functions Theory and Applications

Download or read book Belief Functions Theory and Applications written by Thierry Denoeux and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of belief functions, also known as evidence theory or Dempster-Shafer theory, was first introduced by Arthur P. Dempster in the context of statistical inference, and was later developed by Glenn Shafer as a general framework for modeling epistemic uncertainty. These early contributions have been the starting points of many important developments, including the Transferable Belief Model and the Theory of Hints. The theory of belief functions is now well established as a general framework for reasoning with uncertainty, and has well understood connections to other frameworks such as probability, possibility and imprecise probability theories. This volume contains the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Belief Functions that was held in Compiègne, France on 9-11 May 2012. It gathers 51 contributions describing recent developments both on theoretical issues (including approximation methods, combination rules, continuous belief functions, graphical models and independence concepts) and applications in various areas including classification, image processing, statistics and intelligent vehicles.

Book Uncertainty Based Information

Download or read book Uncertainty Based Information written by George J. Klir and published by Physica. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information is precious. It reduces our uncertainty in making decisions. Knowledge about the outcome of an uncertain event gives the possessor an advantage. It changes the course of lives, nations, and history itself. Information is the food of Maxwell's demon. His power comes from know ing which particles are hot and which particles are cold. His existence was paradoxical to classical physics and only the realization that information too was a source of power led to his taming. Information has recently become a commodity, traded and sold like or ange juice or hog bellies. Colleges give degrees in information science and information management. Technology of the computer age has provided access to information in overwhelming quantity. Information has become something worth studying in its own right. The purpose of this volume is to introduce key developments and results in the area of generalized information theory, a theory that deals with uncertainty-based information within mathematical frameworks that are broader than classical set theory and probability theory. The volume is organized as follows.
