Book Utility Scale Wind Turbine Demonstration Project

Download or read book Utility Scale Wind Turbine Demonstration Project written by Terry Fredericks and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the Three Affiliated Tribes proposing to Department of Energy was nothing new to Denmark. National Meteorological Studies have proved that North Dakota has some of the most consistence wind resources in the world. The Three Affiliated Tribes wanted to assess their potential and become knowledgeable to developing this new and upcoming resource now valuable. By the Tribe implementing the Utility-scale Wind Turbine Project on Fort Berthold, the tribe has proven the ability to complete a project, and has already proceeded in a feasibility studies to developing a large-scale wind farm on the reservation due to tribal knowledge learned, public awareness, and growing support of a Nation wanting clean renewable energy. The tribe is working through the various measures and regulations with the want to be self-sufficient, independent, and marketable with 17,000 times the wind energy needed to service Fort Berthold alone.

Book Fundamentals Wind Driven Water

Download or read book Fundamentals Wind Driven Water written by J.A.C Kentfield and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-12-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph offers a comprehensive reference work for engineers, researchers and students involved in the design, testing and improvement of wind-driven water pumps. By providing a thorough treatment of the factors which affect the success of pump performance, combined with the fundamentals of machine design, this book distinguishes itself from a simple design manual, and therefore allows the reader to determine the most efficient wind-pump configuration based on their specific needs and resources. The latest international developments in wind-driven water pumping technologies, including a survey of the advantages and disadvantages of the alternative configurations to the more "standard" designs are discussed. In a field where technical information is limited, "The Fundamentals of Wind-Driven Water Pumpers" will serve as a valuable resource for the wind-engineering community. Water-pumping windmills are used in crop irrigation and water supply for livestock in various semi-arid regions

Book Small Wind Turbines for Electricity and Irrigation

Download or read book Small Wind Turbines for Electricity and Irrigation written by Mario Alejandro Rosato and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical book deals with the technology of small-power wind turbines as opposed to widely diffused industrial wind turbines and wind farms. It covers the most common wind turbine technologies in the small power segment: horizontal axis both for electrical generation and water pumping, vertical axis of the Darrieus type, and vertical axis of the Savonius type. With each chapter following the same didactic scheme—a theoretical explanation and practical examples showing calculation procedures—it allows anybody with basic technical knowledge to design and build a small wind turbine for any site. A set of simple spreadsheets is available for download, each providing further examples of how to solve specific design problems and allowing the reader to play with changing parameters and see what-if. This simple trial-and-error learning process allows beginners to develop the feeling of the orders of magnitude involved in the design of a small wind power system, its potential advantages on other alternative solutions, and its limitations under some special circumstances.

Book Valuing Wind Generation on Integrated Power Systems

Download or read book Valuing Wind Generation on Integrated Power Systems written by Ken Dragoon and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind powered generation is the fastest growing energy source in the United States due to a combination of economic incentives, public preference for renewable energy as expressed in government policies, competitive costs, and the need to address global warming. The economic consequences of the relative variability and lower predictability of wind generation are not easily captured in standard economic analyses performed by utility planners. This book provides utility analysts and regulators a guide to analyzing the value of wind generation in the context of modern power systems.Guiding the reader through the steps to understanding and valuing wind generation on modern power systems, this book approaches the issue from the various, current perspectives in the US. These include utilities that are still primarily vertically integrated power providers and systems dominated by independent system operators (ISOs). Outlined here are the basic procedures in a wind valuation study, described with enough detail so that analysts spanning a range of resources and sophistication can reasonably undertake a competent study. Descriptions of studies performed by other utilities are also provided, explaining their specific approaches to the fundamentals. Finally, it includes a short section on power systems that utilize relatively large fractions of wind, and how operating procedures and valuing techniques may need alteration to accommodate them.• Reviews operating challenges that large amounts of wind power present to power systems operators • Outlines alternative approaches to quantifying the systems services necessary to accommodate the wind • Explains how economic analyses of wind generation are competently performed • Describes how to represent wind generation in computer models commonly used by electric utility planners that may not be specifically designed to incorporate wind generation • Reviews methods used by some select utility companies around the United States • Touches on key European issues involving relatively high levels of wind generation • Written at the level of the utility planner, assuming a basic understanding of economic dispatch of generators and elementary statistics Outlines the role of wind forecasting in wind valuation studies Evaluates the importance of estimating wind generation to meet peak demand Researches how the market structure effects the value of wind energy Discusses power systems that utilize relatively large fractions of wind power Highlights the operating procedures that can enhance the value of wind generation
