Book excerpt: Whether you believe that demons in the service of Satan are actively plotting to subvert God's kingdom or you see such evil entities as metaphors for the struggle that is the human condition, this book will speak to you. Although cast in the language of Western Christian thought, the text looks to universal themes of good and evil and how they may be magnified or distorted in the filter of religion. The author does not, however, take issue with the fact that evil does exist in the world. Little more is needed than a visit to your favorite news site or a perusal of the front page of a newspaper to know that horrific and inexplicable things happen every day. The personification of evil in the form of a Devil and his minions evolved over time in the Jewish spiritual tradition and then in the new Christianity. Satan was once seen as a member of God's council and His ally in testing the faith of men, a role clear in the story of Job. As the perception of Satan changed however, due in large part to the story of the War in Heaven told in the Book of Revelation, the forces of evil were cast down to the earth. Here, until the Day of Judgment, they are, according to scripture, free to try to subvert man's relationship with God. This book seeks to sift popular, fictional demonology from a canonical consideration of evil. A kind of popular "man on the street" common knowledge has evolved thanks to fiction, television, and film that leave the impression of a world forever locked in a cosmic struggle. Is this accurate, or are the faithful more secure than they realize from the machinations of the devil and demons? Through an exploration of these ideas, plus accounts of famous demon possessions, the author grapples with these questions and more. An excellent introduction to demonology that acknowledges and respects the religious perspective without being religious per se, this is a fresh take on a centuries old debate. Demonology from a theological perspective, demonic possession, information on many of the demons recognized in Christianity, and much more all covered!

Book excerpt: Everything You Need to Know About Demons, What They Are, How They Operate, Demonic Possession, Demonic Oppression, and How to Cast Out Demons and Obtain Deliverance for Yourself and for Your Loved Ones. When it comes to the subject of demons, Christians fall into two equal and opposite extremes. The first extreme is believing that demons don't exist or that they don't have any power at all. While the second extreme is believing too much in them and attributing every problem in life to them. In this Bible study, you will learn what demons are, their origins, their names, operations, and how to deal with them. You will learn that while demons are real and can cause serious trouble, we are not to be afraid of them because God has placed us in a more powerful place of authority than them. Download or read book Demons written by Michael S. Heiser and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2020-04-29 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth about demons is far stranger—and even more fascinating—than what's commonly believed. Are demons real? Are they red creatures with goatees holding pitchforks and sitting on people's shoulders while whispering bad things? Did a third of the angels really rebel with Satan? Are demons and "principalities and powers" just terms for the same entities, or are they different members of the kingdom of darkness? Is the world a chaotic mess because of what happened in Eden, or is there more to the story of evil? What people believed about evil spiritual forces in ancient biblical times is often very different than what people have been led to believe about them today. And this ancient worldview is missing from most attempts to treat the topic. In Demons, Michael Heiser debunks popular presuppositions about the very real powers of darkness. Rather than traditions, stories, speculations, or myths, Demons is grounded in what ancient people of both the Old and New Testament eras believed about evil spiritual forces and in what the Bible actually says. You'll come away with a sound, biblical understanding of demons, supernatural rebellion, evil spirits, and spiritual warfare.

Book The Testament of Solomon

Download or read book The Testament of Solomon written by King Solomon and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-15 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the Testament of Solomon is a complete and accurate reprint of the original translation of ancient manuscripts by F.C. Conybeare first printed in 1898. It contains all Conybeare's original notes and commentary, including the Greek characters he footnoted for the reader's consideration. Beware of other editions of this work that do not contain all the original text. The Testament of Solomon is a pseudepigraphical work attributed to King Solomon the Wise of the Old Testament. Written in the first-person narrative, the book tells the story of the creation of the magical ring of King Solomon and how Solomon's ring was used to bind and control demons, including Beelzebub. In this book of King Solomon, the discourses between the King and the various spirits are told, and the story shows how Solomon uses his wisdom to withstand the demons' tricks and guile and enlist their aid in the building of his temple. The spells and seals of Solomon used by the King to bind the spirits are detailed, which makes this work a book of Solomon's magic, similar in nature to the Lesser Key of Solomon the King and the Greater Key of Solomon the King, which both are King Solomon books of magic and contain various talismans of Solomon, including the secret seal of Solomon. The manuscripts from which this work was discovered date from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. All were written in Greek. This dating makes most experts believe that the work is medieval. But some scholars, including D.C. Duling, argue that it is likely that the work comes from the 5th or 6th centuries. The various manuscripts used to source the work all date to medieval times, but the text itself, as well as references to other works, indicate the Testament is much older. For example, in the Dialogue of Timothy and Aquila, there is a direct reference to the Testament of Solomon. The Dialogue purports to have been written during the Archbishopric of Cyril in 444 C.E., and therefore, its reference would date the Testament before that time. Similarly, in the early 4th century Gnostic text On the Origin of the World, references to the book of Solomon and his 49 demons are made. No matter the date, the text provides an immensely interesting description of how King Solomon tamed various demons to build his temple. The text includes predictions of the coming of Christ, as one demon explains to Solomon that while he may be bound, the only thing that can truly take his power away is the man born from a virgin who will be crucified by the Jews.
