Book Demon Lovers

    Book Details:
  • Author : Walter Stephens
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2003-08-15
  • ISBN : 9780226772622
  • Pages : 472 pages

Download or read book Demon Lovers written by Walter Stephens and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2003-08-15 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 20, 1587, Walpurga Hausmännin of Dillingen in southern Germany was burned at the stake as a witch. Although she had confessed to committing a long list of maleficia (deeds of harmful magic), including killing forty—one infants and two mothers in labor, her evil career allegedly began with just one heinous act—sex with a demon. Fornication with demons was a major theme of her trial record, which detailed an almost continuous orgy of sexual excess with her diabolical paramour Federlin "in many divers places, . . . even in the street by night." As Walter Stephens demonstrates in Demon Lovers, it was not Hausmännin or other so-called witches who were obsessive about sex with demons—instead, a number of devout Christians, including trained theologians, displayed an uncanny preoccupation with the topic during the centuries of the "witch craze." Why? To find out, Stephens conducts a detailed investigation of the first and most influential treatises on witchcraft (written between 1430 and 1530), including the infamous Malleus Maleficarum (Hammer of Witches). Far from being credulous fools or mindless misogynists, early writers on witchcraft emerge in Stephens's account as rational but reluctant skeptics, trying desperately to resolve contradictions in Christian thought on God, spirits, and sacraments that had bedeviled theologians for centuries. Proof of the physical existence of demons—for instance, through evidence of their intercourse with mortal witches—would provide strong evidence for the reality of the supernatural, the truth of the Bible, and the existence of God. Early modern witchcraft theory reflected a crisis of belief—a crisis that continues to be expressed today in popular debates over angels, Satanic ritual child abuse, and alien abduction.

The discovery of a beautiful but unusual ring in the attic, leads to much more than she bargained for. Kai may not realize what she has in her possession, but the boys in Hell sure got the message. Lucifer and the six other princes of Hell, existed for several millennium believing that the Ring of Solomon–an object with the power to control demons– had been destroyed. However, the moment Kai slips the ring on her finger, the tremor of it's power ripples through the underworld. Knowing the ring's existence could mean the destruction of all demons, Lucifer sends his six princes to earth in search of the ring and it's bearer. There's one catch, a demon can't take the ring from it's owner, it has to be given willingly…or they have to be dead. Asmodeus, the Demon of Lust, is happy to have another opportunity to visit the mortal world and dally with a human female…or twelve. However, when he arrives on earth, he realizes Lucifer made all the demons mortal in an effort to keep them motivated, focused on their mission and immune from the powers of the ring. When Asmodeus meets Kai along a deserted section of highway in Magic Valley, it's more than the ring she wears that catches his eye. He plans to woo the ring out from under her but before long, the lines between lust and love blur. When the other members of the brotherhood realize Asmodeus has found the ring, they descend on Bliss, determined to get the ring from Kai at any cost. When Asmodeus is faced with choosing between the brotherhood and his one true love, he realizes the battle for Hell is nothing compared to the battle for her heart.

This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prayers that Break Strongholds in breaking the demonic strongholds of sexual sin, perversion and lust from our lives is vital to the fabric for a continual presence of the Kingdom of God upon its sovereignty. Demonic manifestations from sexual sin, perversion and lust can come about in many forms and for many reasons. When they happen they can be disruptive and harmful. Satan is our enemy. He will use any opening we give him. The purpose of this book is to help you understand if you have a door open through which Satan and his demonic hosts can enter, they can cause problems in your life, your relationship and marriage. These prayers are designed first and foremost to combat the constant attacks of the enemy and its host of demon spirits. But the prayer starts with the Body of Christ, and its Kingdom Citizenship that represents the church, that represents a community, that represents a home or family. With a strong and solid foundation from a small group of 2 to a multitude of thousands, a person or a people praying for to God, the Father, God the Son and God, the Holy Spirit, brings about a type of covering that surpasses conventional thinking or mindset. Praying against an enemy that the word of God says in 1 Peter 5:8 [AMP], Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring in fierce hunger, seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Prayer keeps that counterfeit lion, the devil at a distance. The words that are released in prayer against the enemy, becomes a barrage upon the types of garrisons or fortresses its demonic host try to erect to keep Gods people from being free from the clutches of its nature. Prayer, brings about a Kingdom mindset that understands the will, way and purpose of who we are to be formed to the mind, will, way and purpose of God and not ours. This book contains various prayers that we believe can help combat the enemy and stop him at his tracks. The sources of these prayers, is to bring about the power of the strength of God into your life that will let the devil know, NOT HERE, NOT NOW and NOT EVER will the enemy have power of my life and the endeavors that I make within the Kingdom of God. When you pray, pray with a strong authority that will release the words spoken into the atmosphere that would produce the power of God's glory and anointing that brings the effect of change that brings the effect of manifested power of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Somehow I woke up one day and found myself in bed with a stranger." Meant literally or figuratively, this statement describes one of the best-known plots in world mythology and popular storytelling. In a tour that runs from Shakespeare to Hollywood and from Abraham Lincoln to Casanova, the erudite and irrepressible Wendy Doniger shows us the variety, danger, and allure of the "bedtrick," or what it means to wake up with a stranger. The Bedtrick brings together hundreds of stories from all over the world, from the earliest recorded Hindu and Hebrew texts to the latest item in the Weekly World News, to show the hilariously convoluted sexual scrapes that people manage to get themselves into and out of. Here you will find wives who accidentally commit adultery with their own husbands. You will read Lincoln's truly terrible poem about a bedtrick. You will learn that in Hong Kong the film The Crying Game was retitled Oh No! My Girlfriend Has a Penis. And that President Clinton was not the first man to be identified by an idiosyncratic organ. At the bottom of these wonderful stories, ancient myths, and historical anecdotes lie the dynamics of sex and gender, power and identity. Why can't people tell the difference in the dark? Can love always tell the difference between one lover and another? And what kind of truth does sex tell? Funny, sexy, and engaging, The Bedtrick is a masterful work of energetic storytelling and dazzling scholarship. Give it to your spouse and your lover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A widespread misapprehension of Søren Kierkegaard is that his concern for the individual and the individual's relation to the divine excluded any significant attention to social and political problems. In this volume Gregor Malantschuk, before his death one of the world's foremost Kierkegaard scholars, demonstrates the social dimension of Kierkegaard's thought – the relation between the individual and the state, the distinctive and complementary character of man and woman, his possible acquaintance with Marxist thought. The book shows Kierkegaard as an astute observer of the social and political situation of his time and underscores the differences between his presuppositions and those of the present day. The book is a translation of Den kontroversielle Kierkegaard together with two additional essays by Malantschuk.

Book The Cult of Draupad

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of a projected three-volume work on the little known South Indian folk cult of the goddess Draupadi and on the classical epic, the Mahabharata, that the cult brings to life in mythic, ritual and dramatic forms. It focuses on the Draupadi cult's own double mythology, moving from its storieis about Draupadi's 'primal temple' near the capital of the medieval South Indian Kingdom of Gingee to its version of the Mahabharata war on the North Indian plain of Kuruksetra. Throughout, Hiltebeitel intertwines 'regional' data, gathered from both oral and written sources, with the 'epic', drawn from the cult's own performative traditions as well as from classical versions of the Mahabharata in both Tamil and Sanskrit. He re-examines many issues critical to Indological studies and takes up them while breaking new ground in investigating the further rapport between the Hindu goddess and the Indian epic. Future volumes will treat the rituals of the Draupadi cult and the Mahabharata as seen through a Draupadi cult retrospective. Book VICTORY OVER ALL DEMONIC POWERS

Download or read book VICTORY OVER ALL DEMONIC POWERS written by Dr. GEBRU WOLDU and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-01-08 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In studying the realm of demons, we desperately need knowledge of the Word of God. This is due to the fact that we ought to treat the subject in a spiritually balanced way. Unbalanced teaching will be in danger of falling to one of the two extremes: it will either ignore demons or attach everything to demons. A born again Christian drives out demons; they don't enter him (her). Thus, we Christians should lead a life of holiness, love, and humility and grow in God's Word and Spirit. As a result, we should go from faith to faith, from power to power and from glory to ever-increasing glory. Although demons don't enter born-again Christians the devil will fight against Christians through his flaming arrows. We should take up and put on the full armor of God in order to tackle the enemy's fiery darts.
