Download or read book Social Demographic and Educational Data for France 1801 1897 written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This data collection consists of 161 selected social, demographic, and educational datasets for France in the period 1801-1897. The data were collected from published reports of three national statistical series : (1) National Censuses, (2) Vital Statistics, and (3) Primary Education. This project was supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Science Foundation. The National Census data were derived from the quinquennial population censuses of France from 1801 to 1896 and were obtained from the Statistique Generale de la France. The data provide detailed social and economic information for the period 1851 to 1896. The data for 1801-1851 are less rich in subject matter coverage but do present some basic information on population characteristics. The National Census data in general describe the population, including the composition of the population by categories of age, sex, place of birth, marital status, religion, place of residence, and occupation. There is also some limited information on migration, transportation and communication, housing, and families. A large segment of the census data pertains to occupations of the population, specifying job classifications within professions, as well as information on non-employed household members that were dependent on employees in the various industries, in addition to enumerations of persons employed in various professions and trades. The Vital Statistics fichiers contain annual vital statistics for the French population. These data were obtained from two printed series, MOUVEMENT DE LA POPULATION (1801-1868), and STATISTIQUE ANNUELLE (1869-1897). The basic variables included in the vital statistics datasets record births, deaths, and marriages in France. Detailed cross-tabulations of these demographic indicators are presented for births, tabulated by sex ... Cf. : http://webapp.icpsr.umich.edu/cocoon/ICPSR-STUDY/00048.xml.

Book Understanding Demographic Transitions

Download or read book Understanding Demographic Transitions written by Claude Diebolt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the process of demographic transition which has played a key role in the economic development of Western countries. The special focus is on France, which constitutes the first clear case of fertility decline in Europe. The book analyzes the reasons behind this phenomenon by examining the evolution of demographic variables in France over the past two hundred years. To better understand the reasons of the changing patterns of demographic behavior, the authors investigate the development of the female labor force, study educational investments, and explore the evolution of gender roles and relations.

Book International Education Indicators

Download or read book International Education Indicators written by Marianne Perie and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educational issues across the different member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) are compared in this report. The OECD is made up of 26 developed countries. The indicators used in this analysis cover the years 1985 to 1991, a 7-year time series to study trends in policy. The indicators in this report provide data on how close the United States is to meeting its own educational goals defined in the National Education Goals of 1990, as well as how the country compares to other nations. Highlighted in the report are the basic components of education, including enrollment, expenditures, and outcomes. By examining economic and demographic characteristics, the education system of each country is placed in its proper context. The 12 indicators are grouped into 5 sections: (1) the social and economic context of education; (2) participation in education; (3) human and financial resources; (4) system outcomes; and (5) labor market outcomes. Most countries showed increases in educational participation, enrollment in tertiary education, expenditures on public education, expenditures per student, and first degree graduation rates. However, the percentage of graduate degrees awarded in most OECD countries in the sciences dropped overall between 1985 and 1991. An attachment contains supplemental notes and tables. (Contains 12 tables, 4 supplemental tables, and 16 figures.) (SLD)
