Book Introduction to Quantum Groups

Download or read book Introduction to Quantum Groups written by George Lusztig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-27 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quantum groups discussed in this book are the quantized enveloping algebras introduced by Drinfeld and Jimbo in 1985, or variations thereof. The theory of quantum groups has led to a new, extremely rigid structure, in which the objects of the theory are provided with canonical basis with rather remarkable properties. This book will be of interest to mathematicians working in the representation theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras, knot theorists and to theoretical physicists and graduate students. Since large parts of the book are independent of the theory of perverse sheaves, the book could also be used as a text book.

Book Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics

Download or read book Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics written by Jürgen Fuchs and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics provides a language in which to formulate the laws that govern nature. It is a language proven to be both powerful and effective. In the quest for a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of physics, one is led to theories that are increasingly difficult to put to the test. In recent years, many novel questions have emerged in mathematical physics, particularly in quantum field theory. Indeed, several areas of mathematics have lately become increasingly influentialin physics and, in turn, have become influenced by developments in physics. Over the last two decades, interactions between mathematicians and physicists have increased enormously and have resulted in a fruitful cross-fertilization of the two communities. This volume contains the plenary talks fromthe international symposium on Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics held at Karlstad University (Sweden) as a satellite conference to the Fourth European Congress of Mathematics. The scope of the volume is large and its content is relevant to various scientific communities interested in noncommutative geometry and representation theory. It offers a comprehensive view of the state of affairs for these two branches of mathematical physics. The book is suitablefor graduate students and researchers interested in mathematical physics.

Book Complex Semisimple Quantum Groups and Representation Theory

Download or read book Complex Semisimple Quantum Groups and Representation Theory written by Christian Voigt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a thorough introduction to the theory of complex semisimple quantum groups, that is, Drinfeld doubles of q-deformations of compact semisimple Lie groups. The presentation is comprehensive, beginning with background information on Hopf algebras, and ending with the classification of admissible representations of the q-deformation of a complex semisimple Lie group. The main components are: - a thorough introduction to quantized universal enveloping algebras over general base fields and generic deformation parameters, including finite dimensional representation theory, the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt Theorem, the locally finite part, and the Harish-Chandra homomorphism, - the analytic theory of quantized complex semisimple Lie groups in terms of quantized algebras of functions and their duals, - algebraic representation theory in terms of category O, and - analytic representation theory of quantized complex semisimple groups. Given its scope, the book will be a valuable resource for both graduate students and researchers in the area of quantum groups.

Download or read book Tensor Categories written by Pavel Etingof and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there a vector space whose dimension is the golden ratio? Of course not—the golden ratio is not an integer! But this can happen for generalizations of vector spaces—objects of a tensor category. The theory of tensor categories is a relatively new field of mathematics that generalizes the theory of group representations. It has deep connections with many other fields, including representation theory, Hopf algebras, operator algebras, low-dimensional topology (in particular, knot theory), homotopy theory, quantum mechanics and field theory, quantum computation, theory of motives, etc. This book gives a systematic introduction to this theory and a review of its applications. While giving a detailed overview of general tensor categories, it focuses especially on the theory of finite tensor categories and fusion categories (in particular, braided and modular ones), and discusses the main results about them with proofs. In particular, it shows how the main properties of finite-dimensional Hopf algebras may be derived from the theory of tensor categories. Many important results are presented as a sequence of exercises, which makes the book valuable for students and suitable for graduate courses. Many applications, connections to other areas, additional results, and references are discussed at the end of each chapter.

Book Representing Finite Groups

Download or read book Representing Finite Groups written by Ambar N. Sengupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-09 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate textbook presents the basics of representation theory for finite groups from the point of view of semisimple algebras and modules over them. The presentation interweaves insights from specific examples with development of general and powerful tools based on the notion of semisimplicity. The elegant ideas of commutant duality are introduced, along with an introduction to representations of unitary groups. The text progresses systematically and the presentation is friendly and inviting. Central concepts are revisited and explored from multiple viewpoints. Exercises at the end of the chapter help reinforce the material. Representing Finite Groups: A Semisimple Introduction would serve as a textbook for graduate and some advanced undergraduate courses in mathematics. Prerequisites include acquaintance with elementary group theory and some familiarity with rings and modules. A final chapter presents a self-contained account of notions and results in algebra that are used. Researchers in mathematics and mathematical physics will also find this book useful. A separate solutions manual is available for instructors.

Book Lie Groups

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Bump
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-10-01
  • ISBN : 1461480248
  • Pages : 532 pages

Download or read book Lie Groups written by Daniel Bump and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for a one-year graduate course on Lie groups and Lie algebras. The book goes beyond the representation theory of compact Lie groups, which is the basis of many texts, and provides a carefully chosen range of material to give the student the bigger picture. The book is organized to allow different paths through the material depending on one's interests. This second edition has substantial new material, including improved discussions of underlying principles, streamlining of some proofs, and many results and topics that were not in the first edition. For compact Lie groups, the book covers the Peter–Weyl theorem, Lie algebra, conjugacy of maximal tori, the Weyl group, roots and weights, Weyl character formula, the fundamental group and more. The book continues with the study of complex analytic groups and general noncompact Lie groups, covering the Bruhat decomposition, Coxeter groups, flag varieties, symmetric spaces, Satake diagrams, embeddings of Lie groups and spin. Other topics that are treated are symmetric function theory, the representation theory of the symmetric group, Frobenius–Schur duality and GL(n) × GL(m) duality with many applications including some in random matrix theory, branching rules, Toeplitz determinants, combinatorics of tableaux, Gelfand pairs, Hecke algebras, the "philosophy of cusp forms" and the cohomology of Grassmannians. An appendix introduces the reader to the use of Sage mathematical software for Lie group computations.

Book Infinite Dimensional Representations of 2 Groups

Download or read book Infinite Dimensional Representations of 2 Groups written by John C. Baez and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as groups can have representations on vector spaces, 2-groups have representations on 2-vector spaces, but Lie 2-groups typically have few representations on the finite-dimensional 2-vector spaces introduced by Kapranov and Voevodsky. Therefore, Crane, Sheppeard, and Yetter introduced certain infinite-dimensional 2-vector spaces, called measurable categories, to study infinite-dimensional representations of certain Lie 2-groups, and German and North American mathematicians continue that work here. After introductory matters, they cover representations of 2-groups, and measurable categories, representations on measurable categories. There is no index.
