Download or read book The Dejected Soul s Cure written by Christopher Love and published by Soli Deo Gloria Publications. This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the things that is common to true believers is a sense of unworthiness because of sin. This may cause us to doubt both ourselves and God's love for us. Here is an insightful handling of these matters by one of the most pastoral of the Puritans. Love's conclusion is that the great enemy of our souls will do all he can to take our eyes off of our Savior, even if that means an over-preoccupation with sin and self. This book gives Scriptural guidelines to recover a sense of God's love, to give comfort to those who are convicted, and to convict those who may be falsely comforted. This is important reading for anyone who longs to be more sanctified and satisfied. There is also another work by Christopher Love at the end of this book called "A Treatise of Angels."

Book Sadness Expressions in English and Chinese

Download or read book Sadness Expressions in English and Chinese written by Ruihua Zhang and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Tianjin Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award. This book reports on the contrastive-semantic investigation of sadness expressions between English and Chinese, based on two monolingual general corpora and a parallel corpus. The exploration adopts a unique theoretical approach which integrates corpus-linguistic theories on meaning (as a social construct, usage and paraphrase) with a corpus-linguistic lexical model. It employs a new complex but workable methodology which combines computational tools with manual examination to tease meaning out of corpus evidence, to compare and contrast lexical items that do not match up neatly between languages. It looks at sadness expressions both within and across languages in terms of three corpus-linguistic structural categories, i.e. colligation, collocation and semantic association/preference, and paraphrase (both explicit and implicit) to capture their subtle nuances of meaning, disclose the culture-specific conceptualisations encoded in them, and highlight their respective cultural distinctiveness of emotion. By presenting multidisciplinary original work, Sadness Expressions in English and Chinese will be of interest to researchers in corpus linguistics, contrastive lexical semantics, psychology, bilingual lexicography and language pedagogy.

Book Dual process Theories in Social Psychology

Download or read book Dual process Theories in Social Psychology written by Shelly Chaiken and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 1999-02-19 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This informative volume presents the first comprehensive review of research and theory on dual-process models of social information processing. These models distinguish between qualitatively different modes of information processing in making decisions and solving problems (e.g., associative versus rule-based, controlled versus uncontrolled, and affective versus cognitive modes). Leading contributors review the basic assumptions of these approaches and review the ways they have been applied and tested in such areas as attitudes, stereotyping, person perception, memory, and judgment. Also examined are the relationships between different sets of processing modes, the factors that determine their utilization, and how they work in combination to affect responses to social information.

Book Trouble in Mind

  • Author : Dean F. MacKinnon
  • Publisher : JHU Press
  • Release : 2011-01-15
  • ISBN : 0801899605
  • Pages : 348 pages

Download or read book Trouble in Mind written by Dean F. MacKinnon and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2011-01-15 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthodox psychiatric texts are often rich in facts, but thin in concept. Depression may be defined as a dysfunction of mood, but of what use is a mood? How can anxiety be both symptom and adaptation to stress? What links the disparate disabilities of perception and reasoning in schizophrenia? Why does the same situation push one person into drink, drugs, danger, or despair and bounce harmlessly off another? Trouble in Mind is unorthodox because it models adaptive mental function along with mental illness to answer questions like these. From experience as a Johns Hopkins clinician, educator, and researcher, Dean F. MacKinnon offers a unique perspective on the nature of human anguish, unreason, disability, and self-destruction. He shows what mental illness can teach about the mind, from molecules to memory to motivation to meaning. MacKinnon’s fascinating model of the mind as a vital function will enlighten anyone intrigued by the mysteries of thought, feeling, and behavior. Clinicians in training will especially appreciate the way mental illness can illuminate normal mental processes, as medical illness in general teaches about normal body functions. For students, the book also includes useful guides to psychiatric assessment and diagnosis.
