Book Deformations and Stability of Spherical Shells

Download or read book Deformations and Stability of Spherical Shells written by R. M. Evan-Iwanowski and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research project is to investigate the deformations and stability of deep and shallow spherical shells under the action of concentrated loads, distributed (line) loads, and uniform pressure. The following specific objectives were pursued in the current phase of work: (1) to obtain experimental data for a broad range of geometry parameters for design purposes, and to compare these results with existing and proposed analytical solutions; (2) to present phenomenological behavior of shells before, during and after buckling; (3) to determine the parameters pertinent to the description of shell behavior and the ranges of these parameters within which distinctive trends of shell behavior can be established. Book Stability of Nonlinear Shells

Download or read book Stability of Nonlinear Shells written by D. Shilkrut and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-06-18 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability of NonLinear Shells is a compilation of the author's work on analyzing the behaviour of spherical caps and related shell structures under various (axisymmetric) load systems. Differing from other texts on shells of revolution, it is one of the first attempts to deal with effects of multi-parameter load systems. This extension leads to the discovery of some new, hitherto unknown phenomena exhibited by these structures. In addition, the book presents a novel way to characterize properties of solutions of the governing equations for spherical caps - a classification anchored in a theory called reciprocal systems. The author has introduced a deformation map, a projection of multi-dimensional solutions to two-dimensional graphs, to enable analysts to gain insight into the physical meaning of the results obtained. Numerous examples illustrate the concepts introduced. This book also comes to grips with many misconceptions existing in engineering literature about the question of the stability of solutions.

Book excerpt: This book provides engineering tools for the design of shells against buckling. A simplified approach is given in a number of cases which are not addressed in current design codes.

Book Deformations and Stability of Spherical Shells Under Action of Concentrated Loads and Uniform Pressure

Download or read book Deformations and Stability of Spherical Shells Under Action of Concentrated Loads and Uniform Pressure written by R. M. Evan-Iwanowski and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deformations and collapses of a series of spherical shells with a wide range of geometrical parameters and edge supports subjected to the action of concentrated loads, uniform loads, and combination of uniform and concentrated loads have been investigated. The pre-buckling and post-buckling histories of the deflections, stress distributions, and critical curves (showing the relationship between critical loadings and geometry parameter) have been determined. Book Influence of Residual Stresses and Thermal Gradients on Mechanism of Buckling of Shallow Spherical Shells

Download or read book Influence of Residual Stresses and Thermal Gradients on Mechanism of Buckling of Shallow Spherical Shells written by Megumi Sunakawa and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains results of a theoretical and experimental investigation of the influence of residual stresses and thermal gradients on stability of shallow spherical shells. Basic equations, thermoelastic problems for spherical shells, taking a large deformation into consideration, are derived. Assuming 'damped' axisymmetrical deformation pattern, solution for the stability of spherical shell subjected to external pressure is presented. Good agreement between the theoretical and previous experimental results is obtained. The effects of residual stresses and thermal gradients on stability of spherical shells subjected to external pressure are determined. These effects are of considerable significance, and should be taken into account in application. Experiments indicating the effects of residual stresses have been performed for 'inverted' shells subjected to symmetrical and eccentric concentrated loads.

Book Bendings of Surfaces and Stability of Shells

Download or read book Bendings of Surfaces and Stability of Shells written by Alekse_ Vasil_evich Pogorelov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an accessible exposition of the geometric theory of stability of elastic shells, starting from the basic facts of the theory of finite and infinitesimal bendings of surfaces. The author has included a number of new results obtained in recent years. In particular, the complete solution of the problem of stability of spherical shells under an external pressure is contained here without any assumptions regarding the character of buckling. Within the framework of the mathematical model of the phenomenon, the author gives a complete investigation of the loss of stability of a general, strictly convex shell fastened along an edge under external pressure. The author considers the question of the loss of stability of cylindrical shells under axial compression and the effect of various factors on the critical load, among other questions. In contrast to the author's 1967 book on the subject, this work is limited to a relatively small number of classical problems on the loss of stability of shells, but these problems are investigated more thoroughly.

Book Small Elastic Deformations of Thin Shells

Download or read book Small Elastic Deformations of Thin Shells written by P. Seide and published by Springer. This book was released on 1975-05-31 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade or so the theory of shells has undergone a tremendous increase in development. Formerly a subject of interest only to a few special ists and for which the literature was relatively smalI, the needs of structures for aerospace missions instigated a torrent of papers on all facets of the theory which also found application in the less glamorous earthbound shell struc tures important in everyday life. Some idea of the rapidity of the development can be gained from the fact that a bibliography* completed in 1953 listed some 1455 books and papers as the sum total ofthe literature on shell theory to that date. Three years later, however, a supplementt added another 884 papers to the list, an increase of 60 per cent in that short period of time. The number of papers published since these listings has increased to an extent that does not bear contemplation. Obviously no single volume could contain all that constitutes the theory of shells and so this book is restricted to that portion of the theory associated with small deformations of elastic shells. Plastic deformations of shells, which is hardly developed, and nonlinear deformations and stability, which would require at least aseparate volume, are thus excluded. Even with this restriction, however, the present volume represents a long overdue compro mise between completeness and finiteness. In making this compromise I have undoubtedly omitted discussions of many topics and references to many excellent papers which should have been included.
