Book excerpt: A Prophetic Anointing for Today Defining Moments is a fascinating look at the remarkable ways in which God has used ordinary people to change history. But it is about more than history alone—it illuminates the present and unveils the future. Prophetic in nature, the book reveals how God wants to work in each of our lives to fulfill His purposes—today, tomorrow, and in the years to come. The stories in this collection of God-encounters carry a prophetic anointing for all who have ears to hear. Author Bill Johnson highlights the significant traits and contributions of many well-known revival leaders, including John Wesley, Charles Finney, Dwight L. Moody, Maria Woodworth-Etter, Carrie Judd Montgomery, Smith Wigglesworth, John G. Lake, Evan Roberts, Rees Howells, Aimee Semple McPherson, Kathryn Kuhlman, Randy Clark, and Heidi Baker. He explains the impact these leaders can have on us today as we respond to the life-changing truths revealed through their life stories. There is power in knowing the testimonies of men and women who experienced God in a defining moment and said yes to His unique call on their lives. It is a power that inspires us to hunger for God in such a way that we, too, will have an encounter with Him that launches us into the world of the “impossible,” enabling us to fulfill a greater measure of our destiny. Read this book with a sense of readiness, and watch what happens.

Download or read book Known by God written by Brian S. Rosner and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who are you? What defines you? What makes you, you? In the past an individual's identity was more predictable than it is today. Life's big questions were basically settled before you were born: where you'd live, what you'd do, the type of person you'd marry, your basic beliefs, and so on. Today personal identity is a do-it-yourself project. Constructing a stable and satisfying sense of self is hard amidst relationship breakdowns, the pace of modern life, the rise of social media, multiple careers, social mobility, and so on. Ours is a day of identity angst. Known by God is built on the observation that humans are inherently social beings; we know who we are in relation to others and by being known by them. If one of the universal desires of the self is to be known by others, being known by God as his children meets our deepest and lifelong need for recognition and gives us a secure identity. Rosner argues that rather than knowing ourselves, being known by God is the key to personal identity. He explores three biblical angles on the question of personal identity: being made in the image of God, being known by God and being in Christ. The notion of sonship is at the center - God gives us our identity as a parent who knows his child. Being known by him as his child gives our fleeting lives significance, provokes in us needed humility, supplies cheering comfort when things go wrong, and offers clear moral direction for living.

Book excerpt: Defining Moments gives clear direction on how individuals can plan and execute a Holy Spirit led, faith-based trip of their own. So many tour groups do an excellent job of building travel itineraries along with detailed historical tours. The missing component of these trips has been the Holy Spirit connection for the traveler to experience in their own life. Defining Moments is an essential guide to help travelers transform their faith-based travels from a historical tour to a life-changing spiritual revelation experience: from their head to their heart. It is intended to move people to a Spirit led discovery method of interacting with God's powerful revelation of what happened at a place and how it impacts the traveler's life today, rather than simply a fact-based, historical teaching method. Defining Moments sets out to accomplish several goals: Encourage people to take faith-based vacations and turn them into defining moments that will shape their lives forever Help people see the real possibility of not just having their heads filled with facts regarding a vacation spot, but to have their hearts shifted and changed in ways they never imagined Teach the practical ways of meeting God in powerful and personal ways that will restore, revive, and re-energize their faith Inform people of the important places in Christian history so they can be strengthened and inspired in their faith

Book Defining Moments

Download or read book Defining Moments written by Marius Barnard and published by Penguin Random House South Africa. This book was released on 2011-05-27 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marius Barnard is best known as a member of the pioneering medical team that performed the world’s first human heart transplant at Groote Schuur Hospital in 1967, with his brother Chris. But his achievements extended into other spheres. He was an active anti-apartheid campaigner and MP for the Progressive Federal Party, he worked to improve cardiac surgery standards behind the Iron Curtain and globally, and he played a leading role in the creation of critical illness insurance - his invention, and one that has directly benefited the sick around the world. From humble beginnings as the son of missionary parents in the dusty Karoo town of Beaufort West to his position as one of the world’s leading cardiac surgeons, Marius Barnard’s story is a fascinating and remarkable chronicle of personal determination and courage. It is one of few first-hand accounts of the inaugural human heart transplant and its far-reaching repercussions, both in the world of medicine and in the private lives of its pioneers. In this sincere and deeply personal memoir, Barnard speaks frankly about his relationships with his brother, his colleagues and his adversaries, and describes with humility his fourteen-year struggle with cancer. With candour, authenticity and charm, Defining Moments presents the formidable challenges and spellbinding successes in the life of this international medical icon.
