Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iran is the third biggest potato producer in Asia where the production is more than 5 million t with average of 25 t per ha. In comparison with the other crops, potato is sensitive to water stress and irrigation has become an essential component of potato production in arid and semiarid regions. Therefore, this research was conducted to investigate potato cultivar Santeh yield and water use efficiency responses to full and deficit irrigation in Hamadan, Iran. Soil and water researchers, engineers and students can use findings of this study.

Book Crop Yield Response to Deficit Irrigation

Download or read book Crop Yield Response to Deficit Irrigation written by C. Kirda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses general concept and management issues of deficient irrigation practices, covering a wide range of field crops including cotton, maize, soybean, wheat, sugarcane, and the like, based on five years of field research implemented in fourteen different countries, in Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Additionally, guidelines are given for experimental methodology and data analysis for evaluating crop yield response to deficient irrigation. Experimental data, discussions and cited references will be an asset not only to field irrigation engineers but also to research scientists including soil and irrigation scientists and agronomists, for whom the book would be an invaluable reference source.

Book Effects of Regular Deficit Irrigation and Root Wetting on Yield of Potato and Pepper

Download or read book Effects of Regular Deficit Irrigation and Root Wetting on Yield of Potato and Pepper written by Roula Mikhael Bachour and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water scarcity is becoming a severe problem worldwide and its effect is more rel evant in arid and semi-arid regions. In order to alleviate this problem, irrigat ion water management is a must to sustain irrigated agriculture. A study was pla nned and conducted for the growing seasons 2007 and 2008 with the following obje ctives: First to study the effects of regular deficit irrigation and root wetti ng on the yield of potato and pepper, second to evaluate water use efficiency (W UE) and productivity under different irrigation treatments. The third objective is to evaluate different methods of measuring crop evapotranspiration, while the fourth objective is to study the impact of regular deficit irrigation on crop f actor. Four irrigation treatments were considered: T1, T2, T3 and T4 (filling th e top 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the root zone to field capacity respectively). E vapotranspiration was measured by atmometers (ETgage (Trademark)) and Nimah-mini pans. Also, actual evapotranspiration was measured from soil moisture measuremen ts using the time domain reflectometry (TDR). The highest yield of potato was ob tained in T3 (37.66 t/ha in 2007 and 36.14 t/ha in 2008). For pepper, the highes t yield was for T3 (42.5 t/ha in 2007 and 49.9 t/ha in 2008) with no significant difference (P less than 0.05) from T2. The applied water was reduced in potato by 195mm and 75mm for T2 and T3 respectively and in pepper 192mm and 69mm for T2 and T3 respectively compared to the control T4. WUE of potato was the highest i n T2 (5.46 kg/m3 in 2007 and 6.46 kg/m3 in 2008) and also for pepper T2 had the highest WUE (6.93 kg/m3 in 2007 and 9.79 kg/m3 in 2008). And the water productiv ity showed that less water is needed in T2 (0.14 m3/kg in 2007 and 0.10 m3/kg in 2008 for pepper, and 0.18 m3/kg in 2007 and 0.15 m3/kg in 2008 for potato) foll owed by T3 for both crops. ETgage (Trademark) and Nimah-minipan gave a high corr elation in evapotranspiration compared to the FAO Penman-Monteith equation. The Kc values at the development growth stage were less than those published by the FAO; they were decreased as the deficit irrigation increased.

Book Management of nitrogen and water in potato production

Download or read book Management of nitrogen and water in potato production written by A.J. Haverkort and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Potato is very sensitive to water and nitrogen applied during growth, affecting its profitability and impact on the environment. Recent scientific and technical breakthroughs enable us to make best use of water and nitrogen. This book shows how scientific knowledge works in practice, now and well into the new millennium. This systematic and comprehensive book on crop, soil and water technologies will assist producers to achieve optimal production with maximum benefit to themselves and to the environment. Crucial questions, such as: - Which sampling techniques of plants and soil are available and which should I use? - What do the data gathered mean and how do they assist me in water and nitrogen application? - Which decision support systems exist for rain-fed, irrigated, precision or organic farming? are answered. The book updates and interprets knowledge in a simple, easily understandable way. It is intended for farmers, farmers' consultants, researchers and decision makers and is also recommended for students in soil science and agronomy.

Download or read book Potato Yield Response to Deficit Irrigation and Nitrogen Fertilization written by Layal Jihad Darwiche and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results indicate that a minimum of 9% water savings can be achieved without significantly affecting the yield. Furthermore, when water is not limiting, 37% and 31% nitrogen savings can be achieved under the given experimental conditions, with conventional and fertigation method of fertilizer application, respectively, without significantly affecting the yield. A three-dimensional crop production function relating water and nitrogen to potato yield was also generated.
