Book The Implementation of Network Centric Warfare

Download or read book The Implementation of Network Centric Warfare written by and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2005 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the world enters a new millennium, the U.S. military simultaneously enters a new era in warfare -- an era in which warfare is affected by a changing strategic environment and rapid technological change. The United States and its multinational partners are experiencing a transition from the Industrial Age to the Information Age. Simultaneously, it is fully engaged in a global war on terrorism set in a new period of globalization. These changes, as well as the experiences gained during recent and ongoing military operations, have resulted in the current drive to transform the force with network-centric warfare (NCW) as the centerpiece of this effort. This document describes how the tenets and principles of NCW are providing the foundation for developing new warfighting concepts, organizations, and processes that will allow U.S. forces to maintain a competitive advantage over potential adversaries, now and in the future. In sum, the report provides an overview of the ongoing implementation of NCW in the Department of Defense (DoD). A brief description of NCW, including its origins, its central role in force transformation, its tenets and principles, and an implementation strategy, are provided in Chapter 1. An examination of NCW as an emerging theory of war, its relationship to the four domains of Information Age warfare, the growing evidence of its benefits, and the warfighting advantages it can provide are examined in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 focuses on network-centric operations (NCO), including the relationship of NCO to the overarching Joint Operations Concepts (JOpsC), the NCO experience in Afghanistan and Iraq, the development of the NCO Conceptual Framework, and the conduct of NCO case studies. An overview of Joint and Service plans and initiatives to develop and implement network-centric capabilities and the growing investment in these capabilities by our allies and multinational partners are provided in Chapter 4.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Network Centric Warfare Network-centric warfare, also called network-centric operations or net-centric warfare, is a military doctrine or theory of war that aims to translate an information advantage, enabled partly by information technology, into a competitive advantage through the computer networking of dispersed forces. It was pioneered by the United States Department of Defense in the 1990s. Book Managing Distributed Dynamic Systems with Spatial Grasp Technology

Download or read book Managing Distributed Dynamic Systems with Spatial Grasp Technology written by Peter Simon Sapaty and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes a novel ideology and supporting information technology for integral management of both civil and defence-orientated large, distributed dynamic systems. The approach is based on a high-level Spatial Grasp Language, SGL, expressing solutions in physical, virtual, executive and combined environments in the form of active self-evolving and self-propagating patterns spatially matching the systems to be created, modified and controlled. The communicating interpreters of SGL can be installed in key system points, which may be in large numbers (up to millions and billions) and represent equipped humans, robots, laptops, smartphones, smart sensors, etc. Operating under gestalt-inspired scenarios in SGL initially injected from any points, these systems can be effectively converted into goal-driven spatial machines (rather than computers as dealing with physical matter too) capable of responding to numerous challenges caused by growing world dynamics in the 21st century. Including numerous practical examples, the book is a valuable resource for system managers and programmers.

Book Network Centric Operations Challenges and Pitfalls

Download or read book Network Centric Operations Challenges and Pitfalls written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Network-centric operations (NCO) concepts and capabilities are central to Department of Defense (DOD) transformation efforts and are predicted by advocates to have wide-ranging impacts on the conduct of warfare and military forces. NCO concepts cover the entire military response to the Information Age, including ways of thinking, human and organizational behavior, and the networks the military uses across the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of warfare. In a broad sense, NCO is about harnessing networks and networked forces to create military advantages and capabilities. This paper first highlights the centrality of NCO to DoD transformation efforts by using examples from Joint Visions 2010 and 2020, the Office of the Secretary of Defense's Office of Force Transformation (OFT), and Service transformation documents to demonstrate the importance of NCO to DoD. Next, it examines NCO concepts to identify core characteristics and underlying capabilities levied on the supporting network. These sources of NCO thought come primarily from DoD authors; however, many other countries and alliances, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and NATO, are also interested in NCO-like concepts. The paper then analyzes several capabilities required of networks to determine some of the attendant requirements and challenges. This analysis includes potential impacts should networks fail to achieve the required performance or collapse under attack. These challenges are illustrated using examples from the author's experience on the CENTCOM/J6 staff during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom (OEF and OIF). Finally, the analysis provides some recommendations to mitigate associated vulnerabilities introduced by relying upon networks and the promises of NCO.
