Download or read book The Battle for the Resurrection written by Norman L. Geisler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-06-21 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the belief in a purely spiritual resurrection of Christ is prevalent in many cults, those involved in countering the rise and growth of cults would benefit greatly from reading this book. Dr. Walter Martin, author of 'The Kingdom of the Cults' Dr. Geisler's book is effectively designed as [an] antidote to the misery of turning Christ's factual resurrection into an event outside the bounds of ordinary history. Dr. John Warwick Montgomery, author of 'History and Christianity' Geisler demonstrates not only the danger in the theology of various cults but also the tendency to discount the bodily resurrection of the Lord, even among evangelicals. It is essential reading for every pastor and student. Dr. Paige Patterson, author of 'Song of Solomon' The proclamation that Jesus was raised in the same physical body in which he died is just as important today as it was in the first century. The book signals such a call to the importance of this doctrine. Dr. Gary Habermas, Distinguished Professor of Apologetics and Philosophy, Liberty University
Download or read book In Defense of Easter written by Tim Chaffey and published by Risen Ministries. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without the Resurrection, there is no hope. We would still be in our sins, and the Christian faith could not exist. Jesus would be a fraud since He frequently predicted His own Resurrection, even designating it as His sign for an unbelieving world. Skeptics and critics understand the magnitude of the Resurrection, and they have developed numerous theories in their desperate attempts to explain away the wealth of evidence. The early Christians focused uniquely on Christ's conquering of death. Yet many in the church today only discuss this vital doctrine at Easter time-and some fail to mention it entirely when attempting to share the gospel with unbelievers. In Defense of Easter is a biblical and timely apologetic resource that teaches readers: - How history and archaeology support the Resurrection - Why skeptical explanations come up short - How the Resurrection provides hope and comfort - Whether Easter is a pagan holiday Equip yourself to answer today's skeptical challenges and strengthen your confidence in the risen Savior. Discover why everything hinges on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Dr. Gary Habermas endorsed In Defense of Easter: "Challenges to Jesus' Resurrection are frequently made on the popular level, and answers must be forthcoming. Tim Chaffey's volume responds to many of these contemporary questions, as well as moving beyond arguments and evidences to the application of Resurrection truth. What difference can belief in the resurrection mean for believers today? This volume is an accessible handbook that covers a wide range of issues, both more theoretical as well as practical. I very much enjoyed my time with it, and recommend it to those who love this topic and are interested in material that is not readily available elsewhere."
Download or read book The Resurrection of God Incarnate written by Richard Swinburne and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2003-01-09 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether or not Jesus rose bodily from the dead remains perhaps the most critical and contentious issue in Christianity. Until now, argument has centred upon the veracity of explicit New Testament accounts of the events following Jesus's crucifixion, often ending in deadlock. In Richard Swinburne's new approach, though, ascertaining the probable truth of the Resurrection requires a much broader approach to the nature of God and to the life and teaching of Jesus. The Resurrection can only have occurred if God intervened in history to raise to life a man dead for thirty six hours. It is therefore crucial not only to weigh the evidence of natural theology for the existence of a God who has some reason so to intervene, but also to discover whether the life and teaching of Jesus show him to be uniquely the kind of person whom God would have raised. Swinburne argues that God has reason to interfere in history by becoming incarnate, and that it is highly improbable that we would find the evidence we do for the life and teaching of Jesus, as well as the evidence from witnesses to his empty tomb and later appearances, if Jesus was not God incarnate and did not rise from the dead. The Resurrection of God Incarnate offers a clear and penetrating new perspective on Christianity's central mystery. It will be of great interest to philosophers, theologians, and all those trying to discover the truth about the Christian religion.
Download or read book Alive written by Gabriel N. E. Fluhrer and published by Reformation Trust Publishing. This book was released on 2020 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In our secular age, there is perhaps no claim more stupendous than that Jesus Christ rose from the grave, for this claim introduces an unacceptable supernaturalism into the culture's materialist worldview. Yet, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the center of the Christian religion. From the earliest days of the faith, Christians proclaimed that Christ was risen, and not only that, but His resurrection means something. In Alive: How the Resurrection of Christ Changes Everything, Dr. Gabriel N.E. Fluhrer demonstrates that there is good reason to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He explores the evidence for the resurrection, rebuts popular arguments against it, and provides application for Christians in a hostile culture. Dr. Fluhrer begins by surveying the current landscape of ideas when it comes to the resurrection, focusing especially on the arguments of Bart Ehrman of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He goes to sketch out some plausibility structures for the historical reality of Christ's resurrection, including the marked change seen in the Apostles. Next, he provides an overview of the Bible's testimony concerning the resurrection, beginning in the Old Testament and continuing with an examination of the Gospels, Acts, and the rest of the New Testament. Finally, Dr. Fluhrer concludes with some applications regarding how understanding the reality of the resurrection bears on the Christian life"--

Download or read book Evidence for the Resurrection written by Josh McDowell and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2010-12-09 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Jesus died on the cross, it seemed that all had been lost. Death had won. But after three days in a rich man's tomb, Jesus appeared...alive! The news was so shocking that his followers refused to believe it until they saw him with their own eyes and touched his wounds with their own hands. Then Jesus made an amazing claim: In the future, they too would have resurrected bodies like his, bodies that would never deteriorate, age, or perish. They would have new life without death or pain in the presence of a loving God forever. But can we really believe His promise? For that matter, can we really believe that the promise was made by a man who rose from the dead? In this fascinating look at the claims of the Gospel writers and 2,000 years of believing Christians, bestselling author Josh McDowell and his son Sean examine the compelling evidence and conclude that Jesus Christ conquered death and the grave. In clear, concise, and accessible chapters, Josh and Sean present the facts about the resurrection and what it means for readers today.
Download or read book Raised with Christ written by Adrian Warnock and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2009-12-22 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus truly is alive today. But compared to his atoning death, Jesus' resurrection sparks relatively little discussion in the church. Inadvertently,we can become so focused on the good news that Christ died for our sins, that we almost forget he was "raised for our justification" (Romans 4:25). In Raised with Christ, author Adrian Warnock exhorts Christians not to neglect the resurrection in their teaching and experience. Warnock takes his cue from Acts, where every recorded sermon focuses on Jesus' resurrection. He stresses that Christians who faithfully proclaim both the death and the bodily resurrection of Jesus, and live out the implications of that message in vibrant,grace-filled churches, will be enabled to reach a world that lives in death's dark shadow. The power of the risen Christ is active in every true Christian, transforming our lives. Raised with Christ will help you discover afresh the massive implications of the empty tomb. Jesus' resurrection really has changed everything.
Download or read book The Jesus Inquest written by Charles Foster and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2011-01-10 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Foster thought he knew the familiar story of the resurrection of Jesus. He thought Christianity rested on sound historical foundations. But could he be wrong? Could Christianity be built on a terrible mistake or downright lie? As nagging doubts began to surface, Foster turned to countless Christian books to find comfort and proof. But all he found were more questions. What began as a personal quest for reassurance quickly turned into an in-depth examination of the most astounding historical claim of all time. He crawled through Jerusalem tombs, dusty libraries, and the recesses of his own mind in search of an answer. He turned the war in his head—the war between faith and doubt—into this heated, no-holds-barred debate, which presents the case both for and against the resurrection of Jesus. The Jesus Inquest takes you through medical evidence, Jewish burial practices, archaeological hypotheses, maps, ancient artifacts, the canonical and non-canonical gospels, biblical criticism, and much more, providing an unbiased examination of the facts of the case. A practicing trial attorney and University of Oxford academic, Charles Foster vigorously argues both sides of the issue, presenting information in compelling courtroom style and leaving no hard question unaddressed. The Jesus Inquest gives readers the tools necessary to debate the most remarkable and controversial event of world history—a debate so crucial and fascinating it cannot be ignored.

Download or read book The Resurrection of Jesus written by Dale C. Allison, Jr. and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earliest traditions around the narrative of Jesus' resurrection are considered in this landmark work by Dale C. Allison, Jr, drawing together the fruits of his decades of research into this issue at the very core of Christian identity. Allison returns to the ancient sources and earliest traditions, charting them alongside the development of faith in the resurrection in the early church and throughout Christian history. Beginning with historical-critical methodology that examines the empty tomb narratives and early confessions, Allison moves on to consider the resurrection in parallel with other traditions and stories, including Tibetan accounts of saintly figures being assumed into the light, in the chapter “Rainbow Body”. Finally, Allison considers what might be said by way of results or conclusions on the topic of resurrection, offering perspectives from both apologetic and sceptical viewpoints. In his final section of “modest results” he considers scholarly approaches to the resurrection in light of human experience, adding fresh nuance to a debate that has often been characterised in overly simplistic terms of “it happened” or “it didn't”.
