Book Equilibrium Statistical Physics

Download or read book Equilibrium Statistical Physics written by M. Baus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-15 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook which gradually introduces the student to the statistical mechanical study of the different phases of matter and to the phase transitions between them. Throughout, only simple models of both ordinary and soft matter are used but these are studied in full detail. The subject is developed in a pedagogical manner, starting from the basics, going from the simple ideal systems to the interacting systems, and ending with the more modern topics. The textbook provides the student with a complete overview, intentionally at an introductory level, of the theory of phase transitions. All equations and deductions are included.

Book Light Scattering Near Phase Transitions

Download or read book Light Scattering Near Phase Transitions written by H.Z. Cummins and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the development of the laser in the early 1960's, light scattering has played an increasingly crucial role in the investigation of many types of phase transitions and the published work in this field is now widely dispersed in a large number of books and journals.A comprehensive overview of contemporary theoretical and experimental research in this field is presented here. The reviews are written by authors who have actively contributed to the developments that have taken place in both Eastern and Western countries.

Book Introduction to Ferroic Materials

Download or read book Introduction to Ferroic Materials written by Vinod Wadhawan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-21 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ferroic materials are important, not only because of the improved understanding of condensed matter, but also because of their present and potential device applications. This book presents a unified description of ferroic materials at an introductory level, with the unifying factor being the occurrence of nondisruptive phase transitions in crystals that alter point-group symmetry. The book also aims to further systemitize the subject of ferroic materials, employing some formal, carefully worded, definitions and classification schemes. The basic physical principles leading to the wide-ranging applications of ferroic materials are also explained, while placing extra emphasis on the utilitarian role of symmetry in materials science.

Book Nonlinear Phenomena at Phase Transitions and Instabilities

Download or read book Nonlinear Phenomena at Phase Transitions and Instabilities written by Tormod Riste and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This NATO Advanced Study Institute, held in Geilo between March 29th and April 9th 1981, was the sixth in a series devoted to the subject of phase transitions and instabilities. The present institute was intended to provide a forum for discussion of the importance of nonlinear phenomena associated with instabilities in systems as seemingly disparate as ferroelectrics and rotating buckets of oil. Ten years ago, at the first Geilo school, the report of a central peak in the fluctuation spectrum of SrTi0 close to its 3 106 K structural phase transition demonstrated that the simple soft-mode theory of such transitions was incomplete. The missing ingredient was the essential nonlinearity of the system. Parti cipants at this year's Geilo school heard assessments of a decade of experimental and theoretical effort which has been expended to elucidate the nature of this nonlinearity. The importance of order ed clusters and the walls which bound them was stressed in this con text. A specific type of wall, the soliton, was discussed by a number of speakers. New experimental results which purport to demonstrate the existence of solitons in a one-dimensional ferromagnet were presented. A detailed discussion was given of the role of solitons in transport phenomena in driven multistable systems, typified by a sine-Gordon chain.

Book Fundamentals of Solid State Phase Transitions Ferromagnetism and Ferroelectricity

Download or read book Fundamentals of Solid State Phase Transitions Ferromagnetism and Ferroelectricity written by Yuri Mnyukh and published by Directscientific Press. This book was released on 2010-01-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's experimental discoveries in the field of solid-state phase transitions have brought about a thorough explanation of this phenomenon, including the puzzling nature of "lamda-anomalies." These phase transitions are found to be always a nucleation and crystal growth in a solid medium, while "second (or higher) order" phase transitions are a misconception: they do not exist. Ramifications of this new understanding are substatial. In this book the reader will find the first unified account for fundamentals of the three great areas of solid-state physics? Phase transitions, ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity, free of the inconsistencies of the conventional theories.
