Book Defects and Diffusion in Ceramics

Download or read book Defects and Diffusion in Ceramics written by D. J. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second issue, following DDF164, to cover recent progress in this field. The contents are contiguous with those of DDF164, and extend to late November or December 1999 (depending upon journal publication dates). As usual, priority in abstracting has been given to the most accessible work and, in particular, to those papers which furnish original data or report important new techniques, phenomena or anomalies, although there is also extensive coverage of more qualitative features of diffusion and defect phenomena, and of the predictions of computer models. The issue of course also includes original papers on the topic at hand covering, in this case, the synthesis and properties of zirconia-based nanocrystalline powders and ceramics (R.E. Juárez, D.G. Lamas, G.E. Lascalea and N.E. Walsöe de Reca), the optical properties of hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide films (W.K. Choi), the structures and optical properties of defects as related to photo-induced refractive index changes in Ge-doped silica glass (M. Fujimaki and Y. Ohki) and the effects of Li intercalation in zirconia films (A.K. Jonsson, M. Strømme Mattsson, G.A. Niklasson). As well as these ceramic-specific papers, the present issue contains timely papers on other materials, such as an analysis of Diffusion Mechanisms in Ni3Al, Ni3Ge and Ni3Ga (I.V. Belova and G.E. Murch) and molecular dynamics simulations of self-diffusion in GaAs (P. Murugan and K. Ramachandran). Altogether, this again makes the present work the most up-to-date and convenient source of information on current trends in the field of Defects and Diffusion. Book Defects and Diffusion in Ceramics

Download or read book Defects and Diffusion in Ceramics written by D. J. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third special issue to cover recent progress in the field. As usual, priority in abstracting has been given to the most accessible work and, in particular, to those papers which furnish original data or report important new techniques, phenomena or anomalies; although there is also extensive coverage of more qualitative features of diffusion and defect phenomena, of the predictions of computer models, and of theoretical studies. As before, the usual definition of 'ceramic' has been widened so as to include all forms of carbon, and also some nitrides whose primary use is not that of a classical ceramic.

Book Diffusion in Ceramics

Download or read book Diffusion in Ceramics written by Joshua Pelleg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-20 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides an introduction to changes that occur in solids such as ceramics, mainly at high temperatures, which are diffusion controlled, as well as presenting research data. Such changes are related to the kinetics of various reactions such as precipitation, oxidation and phase transformations, but are also related to some mechanical changes, such as creep. The book is composed of two parts, beginning with a look at the basics of diffusion according to Fick's Laws. Solutions of Fick’s second law for constant D, diffusion in grain boundaries and dislocations are presented along with a look at the atomistic approach for the random motion of atoms. In the second part, the author discusses diffusion in several technologically important ceramics. The ceramics selected are monolithic single phase ones, including: A12O3, SiC, MgO, ZrO2 and Si3N4. Of these, three refer to oxide ceramics (alumina, magnesia and zirconia). Carbide based ceramics are represented by the technologically very important Si-carbide and nitride based ceramics are represented by Si-nitride which has been important in high temperature ceramics and gas turbine applications. The author presents a clear, concise and relatively comprehensive treatment of diffusion in ceramics for use by those at an advanced undergraduate level and beyond. It supports understanding of the basic behavior of materials and how to relate observed physical properties to microscopic understanding. The book also provides researchers with a handy collation of data relating to diffusion in ceramics and supports a fundamental understanding of atomic movements.
