Book Deep Inelastic Scattering And Related Phenomena

Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering And Related Phenomena written by Giulio D'agostini and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-03-15 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workshop is the fourth of a series initiated in Durham (March 93), followed by Eilat (February 94) and Paris (April 95). The large interest and the great inflow of experimental data, coming mainly from HERA, are some of the reasons behind the decision to have this annual meeting, presently the most important one for this area of research. During the workshop, experimental results and theoretical aspects have been reported on subjects, which have been organised by working groups on: 1) hadron structure functions; 2) photoproduction and photon structure; 3) diffractive interactions; 4) hadronic final states; 5) spin effects in lepton nucleon scattering; 6) special session on theoretical advances. While the contributions to the working groups offer hot material for specialists, the reports by the conveners, as well as other contributions to the plenary sessions, offer to nonspecialists a complete overview of this research field.

This book was released on 2007-01-23 with total page 996 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings present the most up-to-date status of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) physics. Topics such as structure function measurements and phenomenology, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) studies in DIS and photoproduction, spin physics and diffractive interactions are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on those studies that push the test of QCD and the Standard Model to the limits of their present range of validity, towards both the very high and the very low four-momentum transfers in lepton-proton scattering.

Book Experimental Evidence and Theoretical Implications of Fluctuations in Deep Inelastic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Experimental Evidence and Theoretical Implications of Fluctuations in Deep Inelastic Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of fluctuations in deep inelastic collisions is discussed. The relevance of the statistical equilibrium limit to the description of substantially relaxed degrees of freedom is assessed. The effects of fluctuations are considered specifically for the following processes: (a) the correlation between entrance-channel angular momentum and exit-channel kinetic energy; (b) the sharing of the dissipated kinetic energy between the two fragments; (c) the alignment of the fragment angular momentum. It is found that statistical fluctuations play a major role and that the statistical equilibrium limit seems to have been reached in a number of instances.

Book N Z Equilibration in Deep Inelastic Collisions and the Fragmentation of the Resulting Quasiprojectiles

Download or read book N Z Equilibration in Deep Inelastic Collisions and the Fragmentation of the Resulting Quasiprojectiles written by August Lawrence Keksis and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When target and projectile nuclei have a difference in neutron to proton ratio (N/Z), the quasiprojectiles formed in a deep inelastic collision (DIC) should have a mean N/Z between the N/Z of the target and the N/Z of the projectile, depending on the amount of N/Z equilibration that occurred. Data from six reaction systems at two beam energies (32 and 45 MeV/nucleon) were collected. The systems in order of increasing difference between target and projectile N/Z (shown in parentheses) are 40Ar + 112Sn (delta N/Z = 0.018), 48Ca + 124Sn (delta N/Z = 0.080), 48Ca + 112Sn (delta N/Z = 0.160), 40Ca + 112Sn (delta N/Z = 0.240), 40Ar + 124Sn (deltaN/Z = 0.258) and 40Ca + 124Sn (delta N/Z = 0.480). The quasiprojectile N/Z was determined by two techniques. The first technique used the isotopically resolved fragments to reconstruct the quasiprojectile N/Z. The second technique, developed in this thesis, used fragment yield ratios and a simple equation to simultaneously fit all six systems to determine the quasiprojectile N/Z. Simulations and a filter of the FAUST (Forward Array Using Silicon Technology) acceptance were used to calculate neutron loss; this accounted for the difference between the two techniques. To study the fragmentation of quasiprojectiles the fragment yields were used to calculate the isobaric, isotopic, fractional and mean N/Z yields. The results showed that as neutron richness increased, more neutron-rich fragments were produced. In addition observation showed evidence for an inhomogeneous distribution of N/Z between the light charged particles (LCPs Z less than 3) and intermediate mass fragments (IMFs Z greater than 2). The theoretical results, which used different values of the symmetry energy, were compared to experimental data to determine which symmetry energy best represents the experimental data. The comparison showed the experimental data was the overall best fit with a lower value of the symmetry energy. These results were not conclusive and further investigation is required.

Book Transition from Quasi elastic to Deep inelastic Reactions

Download or read book Transition from Quasi elastic to Deep inelastic Reactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heavy ion induced transfer reactions are usually considered to fall into two categories. Quasi-elastic processes, on one hand, are characterized by small energy transfers, with one-nucleon transfer reactions being a typical example. These processes are dominant for grazing collisions, and are generally described within simple one-step DWBA calculations. Deep inelastic reactions, on the other hand, occur for more central collisions where the interaction time is longer and subsequently more energy and particles can be exchanged. Quasi-elastic collisions dominate transfer reactions induced by light heavy ions (e.g., 16O) at energies not too high above the barrier, while deep inelastic collisions are observed mainly in reactions induced by heavier projectiles (Kr, Xe). In this contribution, we discuss the transition between these two processes for the system 48Ti + 2°8Pb. 48Ti is located between light (16O) and heavy (Kr) projectiles and should be well suited for a study of the interrelation between quasi- and deep-inelastic reactions. The experiments were performed with a 300 MeV 48Ti beam obtained from the Argonne National Laboratory superconducting linac. The outgoing particles were momentum analyzed in a split pole magnetic spectrograph and detected in the focal plane by a position sensitive ionization chamber. The specific energy loss, the magnetic rigidity and the total energy of the outgoing particles were measured enabling mass and Z-identification. The energy resolution was about 3 MeV, determined by the thickness of the 2°8Pb target, and thus excluded study of transfer reactions to discrete final states. Angular distributions were measured in the range theta/sub lab/ = 20° to 80° in steps of 5°. 8 refs.
