Book Deep Hole Drilling with Explosives

Download or read book Deep Hole Drilling with Explosives written by A. P. Ostrovskii and published by Springer. This book was released on 1962-03 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of an effective method of drilling oil and gas wells to depths of 3-5 km and more is a complex problem of great practical interest. "Deep Hole Drilling With Explosives" is a distinctive and very interesting work of the engineer A. P. Ostrovskii, who more than twenty years ago, by his original suggestions, made a start in investigating the field of so-called non-bit processes of shattering rocks when drilling holes, a.nd, with his co-workers, developed a fundamentally new explosive method of drilling deep holes. This book discusses the new trend in worldwide a.pplication of explosives in technology and the national economy; it presents considerable experimental material on the effect of explosions in solid media, material that is not only interesting to specialists in mining but also to physicists. Many phenomena discussed by the author and cited in the book still await explanation, but the fact that these phenomena have been already subjected to experimental study undoubtedly adds to our knowledge of one of the most meagerly investigated areas of the science of explosions-concerning the shattering effect of explo sions on solid media. July 29, 1960 Professor M. A. Sadovskii Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR 1 INTRODUCTION Together with the perfection of turbine drilling and the introduction of electrical drills in the USSR, new methods have been developed for shattering rock and drilling deep oil and gas wells without the use of a bit.

Book Deep Hole Drilling Classic Reprint

Download or read book Deep Hole Drilling Classic Reprint written by Lester G. French and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-17 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Deep Hole Drilling It is well known that a long, or deep, hole - that is, one long in proportion to its diameter - is best roughed out and finished by using a tool on the end of a long bar which enters the work from one end. This is true, whether drilling into solid metal, or boring and reaming a hole that has already been drilled or bored out. A boring bar which extends through the piece, and on which is either a stationary or a traveling head, is not satisfactory for very long work, owing to the spring and deflection of the bar, which is made worse by the fact that the bar must be enough smaller than the bore to allow room for the cutter head. While a long hole may sometimes be finished satisfac torily by means of such a boring bar, by packing the cutter head with wooden blocks which just fill the part of the bog that has been ma chined, and so support the bar, the method is fundamentally incor rect for long work. Download or read book Drills written by Viktor P. Astakhov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 890 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a presentation that balances theory and practice, Drills: Science and Technology of Advanced Operations details the basic concepts, terminology, and essentials of drilling. The book addresses important issues in drilling operations, and provides help with the design of such operations. It debunks many old notions and beliefs while introducing scientifically and technically sound concepts with detailed explanations. The book presents a nine-step drilling tool failure analysis methodology that includes part autopsy and tool reconstruction procedure. A special feature of the book is the presentation of special mechanisms of carbide (e.g. cobalt leaching) and polycrystalline (PCD) tool wear and failure presented and correlated with the tool design, manufacturing, and implementation practice. The author also introduces the system approach to the design of the drilling system formulating the coherency law. Using this law as the guideline, he shows how to formulate the requirement to the components of such a system, pointing out that the drilling tool is the key component to be improved. Teaching how to achieve this improvement, the book provides the comprehensive scientific and engineering foundations for drilling tool design, manufacturing, and applications of high-performance tools. It includes detailed explanations of the design features, tool manufacturing and implementation practices, metrology of drilling and drilling tools, and the tool failure analysis. It gives you the information needed for proper manufacturing and selection of a tool material for any given application.

Book Deep Hole Drilling Feasibility Study

Download or read book Deep Hole Drilling Feasibility Study written by Fenix & Scisson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is feasible to drill a hole to a depth of 50,000 feet by utilizing conventional rotary drilling equipment and techniques. Existing equipment is capable of drilling the hole but modifications of some equipment items are warranted for completion of the lower portion of the hole. The whole could be started with presently available equipment as soon as funds are available, a location established, and a contractor selected. While the upper portion of the hole (20,000 - 30,000 ft.) is being drilled, equipment modifications could be made and supplemental equipment developed. This would allow time to make the equipment available when needed for the lower portion of the hole. Two locations are considered as established by the criteria, both in the Coast Ranges Province of California in the vicinity of the San Andreas Fault. One location would be in an area where granitic rock outcrops at the surface while the other would be in an area where the granitic is overlain by 10,000 feet of sediments. The estimated time to drill the hole under ideal conditions at either location is 4-3/4 years at an estimated cost of $20,000,000. [$400/ft].

Book Production at the Leading Edge of Technology

Download or read book Production at the Leading Edge of Technology written by Bernd-Arno Behrens and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-04 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This congress proceedings provides recent research on leading-edge manufacturing processes. The aim of this scientific congress is to work out diverse individual solutions of "production at the leading edge of technology" and transferable methodological approaches. In addition, guest speakers with different backgrounds will give the congress participants food for thoughts, interpretations, views and suggestions. The manufacturing industry is currently undergoing a profound structural change, which on the one hand produces innovative solutions through the use of high-performance communication and information technology, and on the other hand is driven by new requirements for goods, especially in the mobility and energy sector. With the social discourse on how we should live and act primarily according to guidelines of sustainability, structural change is gaining increasing dynamic. It is essential to translate politically specified sustainability goals into socially accepted and marketable technical solutions. Production research is meeting this challenge and will make important contributions and provide innovative solutions from different perspectives.

Download or read book The German Continental Deep Drilling Program KTB written by Rolf Emmermann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 1986 the German Minister for Research and Technology (Bundesminister fUr Forschung und Technologie), Dr. H. Riesenhuber, officially announced that the super-deep borehole of the Continental Deep Drilling Program of the Federal Republic of Germany (KTB) would be drilled in the Oberpfalz area of Northern Bavaria. The site selection was based on a recommendation from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) made after an evaluation by the Project Management of the technical and financial risks involved. This decision was preceded by a conference held from September 19 to 21, 1986 in Seeheim/Odenwald at which the results of the site studies in the Oberpfalz and the Schwarzwald were presented and thoroughly debated. The models and scientific targets resulting from these investigations formed the basis for a vote by the DFG Senate Commission for Geoscientific Interdisciplinary Research which was taken immediately after the conference. After evaluation of all scientific and technical aspects, the members of the commission voted almost unanimously for the Oberpfalz site. It was, ho",'ever, strongly emphasized that both locations had a wealth of attractive research objectives and that despite clear-cut differences in some major aspects scientifically the two could be regarded as more or less equivalent. Both'locations would be excellent sites for research drilling and would certainly cor.
