Book South Carolina Deed Abstracts 1740 1755 Volume 2

Download or read book South Carolina Deed Abstracts 1740 1755 Volume 2 written by Clara A. Langley and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By: Clara B. Langley, Pub. 1984, reprinted 416 pages, Soft Cover, Index, ISBN #0-89308-272-4. These four volumes contain the abstracts of the records of the Register of the Province of South Carolina from 1719-1772. These abstracts of conveyances and deeds, and occasionally miscellaneous records, cover all parts of the state, from the Proprietary period until just prior to the Revolution. The original copies remain in Charleston in the Office of the Register of Mesne Conveyance, where all deeds for the entire state were recorded until the state capital was moved to Columbia well after the Revolution. After 1785, the individual counties in South Carolina began recording their own deeds, but prior to this date, one must look for his or her ancestor's deed in these volumes being abstracted. These abstracts were prepared for the Works Progress Administration by Miss. Langley in the 1930's. They have been thoroughly indexed for grantors, grantees, adjacent property owners and all other individuals whose names appeared in such conveyances. Each volume contains a full-name index of individuals; a place name index of all places such as rivers, plantations, towns, countries; as well as an occupation index.

Book Edgefield County South Carolina Abstracts of Deed Books 1 12

Download or read book Edgefield County South Carolina Abstracts of Deed Books 1 12 written by Ge Lee Corley Hendrix and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These records are unique because the frontiersman, who settled in this geographical location (next to Indians lands), seldom had the opportunity to record his legal records until the end of the American Revolution when county courthouses were established. Therefore, many of the early deeds contain chains of titles from the original colonial land owner to the present owner at the time of the recording. They also contain many types of instructions, such as conveyances of land, marriage contracts, wills, sheriff's sales, deeds of gifts, plats or surveys (a facsimile of same is included in these abstracts), bills of sale, mortgages, affidavits, powers of attorney, slave sales and others. The deeds often reveal additional information, such as geographical locations, residence, adjoining neighbors, occupation, and heirships as widows, sons, daughters and their husbands, brothers, sisters, and uncles and sometimes the death date of the former property owner. An appendix section of South Carolina Colonial and State Land and Probate Laws is included to aid the student of genealogy and history.

Book South Carolina Deed Abstracts 1776 1783 Books Y 4 Through H 5

Download or read book South Carolina Deed Abstracts 1776 1783 Books Y 4 Through H 5 written by Brent Holcomb and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a continuation of the abstracts prepared under Clara Langley of the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. Until the establishment of county courts in South Carolina in 1785, all deeds were recorded in Charleston. The original deed books remain in the Office of the Register of Mesne Conveyance in Charleston County Court House. While the deeds in these deed books (Y-4 through H-5) were recorded between 1776 and 1783, within these deed books are instruments dating from a much earlier time, some as early as 1722. There are often several books containing deeds recorded in the same year. There are also occasional notations, especially in the case of mortgages, dated later than the recording dates of the deeds or mortgages. After the border surveys between North Carolina and South Carolina in 1764 and 1772, many lands formerly deemed to be North Carolina fell into South Carolina. For that reason, some deeds refer to lands granted by North Carolina, sometimes called "north patents." For the same reason, some deeds formerly recorded in North Carolina, particularly in Tryon County, were re-recorded in the Charleston deed books. In the Colonial period, South Carolina had only four counties: Granville, Colleton, Berkeley, and Craven; which were further divided into parishes and districts. Maps of the counties, parishes, and districts; and, a full-name index add to the value of this work.

Book Deed Abstracts Belmont County Ohio

Download or read book Deed Abstracts Belmont County Ohio written by Lorraine Indermill Quillon and published by Heritage Books. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of an index to Belmont County, Ohio deeds recorded officially between 1801 and 1809; however, the execution dates may occasionally fall outside that range, especially at the beginning of Volume A. The main purpose of this volume, and this series, is to act as an index to the original records. Entries typically include: volume and page of the deed book on which the document appears; date of execution; grantor (and wife) and residence; grantee and residence; amount of consideration offered; land description; history of land; neighbors; if conveyed in fee simple, date by which payments should be completed if done in installments; amount of land involved; the way the grantor(s) signed the document; names of witnesses; name of interviewer (and his office) who conducted the acknowledgment interview (and date of interview if date of document and its recording date are separated by a substantial period of time); and recording data. Some of these items may be missing in some deeds. This handy reference book will be a valuable aid to Belmont County researchers. Numerous plats and an extensive full name index add to the value of this work.
