Book Development of Dedicated Compressed Natural Gas Engine

Download or read book Development of Dedicated Compressed Natural Gas Engine written by Ganesh Anandrao Shinde and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rising cost of fuel, emerging stringent emissions norms, superior fuel economy and power output closer to the gasoline fueled engine with clean exhaust gas, it becomes necessary to develop a dedicated compressed natural gas engine. The Bi-fuel mode engine pitfalls are lower output power, high emissions, and also fuel consumption towards higher side. The Bi-fuel mode engine must be operate on lower compression ratio to avoid knocking phenomena. The study is done to convert Bi-fuel mode engine to dedicated CNG engine. In dedicated engine higher compression ratio is used to obtain more output power, lower emissions with superior fuel economy.

Book Developement of Dedicated CNG Engine for Optimum Performance

Download or read book Developement of Dedicated CNG Engine for Optimum Performance written by Tanaji Balawant Shinde and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diesel engines are invariably used in transportation and agricultural applications. It is a versatile prime mover due to its high fuel efficiency, low fuel cost and high reliability. But due to large scale use of diesel fuel, the smoke in the diesel exhaust and gaseous emissions are subjected to stringent legislation. To overcome the difficulty, research has led to development of various alternative fuels. Among the alternative fuels, gaseous fuels are preferred as they do not pose the problem of atomization. Recently, interest has grown in the natural gas and thus, compressed natural gas (CNG) has become important viable alternative fuel. There are four methods to inject the CNG into the engine cylinder, such as gas mixer/carburetor injection, manifold injection, port injection and direct injection. In port injection CNG engines, gaseous fuel is injected by fuel injector through intake port into combustion chamber. This project work presents improvement for air-fuel mixing in the combustion chamber by the use of pressurized flow of CNG inside the cylinder with the help of port fuel injection through intake port and selecting sutaible combustion chamber geometry.

Book Effect of Compressed Natural Gas on Performance and Emission of a 4 stroke Spark Ignition Engine

Download or read book Effect of Compressed Natural Gas on Performance and Emission of a 4 stroke Spark Ignition Engine written by Awang Idris and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with experimental study of a four-stroke spark ignition engine. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the performance and emission characteristics of the engine while using conventional fuel, gasoline and alternative fuel, compressed natural gas (CNG). The engine operated under a steady state condition at wide-open throttle condition. The performance and emissions test was performed with various constant loads at different speed within the range of 1500 rpm to 4000 rpm with 500 rpm interval. The first experiment is executed by using gasoline and followed by CNG. The engine performance and emissions such as air-fuel ratio, torque, brake power, brake specific fuel consumption, efficiency, the concentration of CO, CO2, HC, and NOx of gasoline and CNG were measured. The results demonstrated that the potential of reducing emissions while applying CNG as fuel is obvious. However the performance of CNG is reduced as the brake power of engine decrease around 25% compare to gasoline engine. During operate with CNG the engine emissions of CO, CO2 and HC shows a significant reduction but the NOx emission is highly increased compare to gasoline. The results and analysis will be useful for the development of dedicated gas engine in the near future.
