Book Decommissioning Offshore Structures

Download or read book Decommissioning Offshore Structures written by D.G. Gorman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly over the next few decades, the oil and gas industry faces the complex task of decommissioning its offshore platforms, pipelines and sub-sea equipment as they reach the end of their operational capabilities. Decommissioning involves and integrates many distinct aspects: engineering, environmental, economic, legal, political and safety considerations. A practical strategy for removing and disposing these structures needs to be developed which best meets the demands of all of these different aspects. Specialists in these various fields have been brought together for this volume to contribute their assessments of the situation. The result is an important step toward the development of a co-ordinated approach to the subject. It is essential reading for all those who are involved with major decommissioning projects, their possible environmental impact and their implications in politics and law.

Book Shell Greenpeace and the Brent Spar

Download or read book Shell Greenpeace and the Brent Spar written by G. Jordan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-08-14 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decision by multinational Shell not to dispose of the Brent Spar oil facility in the North Atlantic was taken after several occupations of the structure by Greenpeace, and as a result of large scale pro-Greenpeace protest in the UK, Germany and other continental countries. This case is often cited as showing the power of single issue pressure groups and is presented as leading to a pivotal reconsideration by big business of the importance of environmental dimensions. However, detailed research proves that Shell changed its mind on the Brent Spar issue because of the corporate structure of the company which meant that some parts were reluctant to bear the bad publicity. Using this case study, Grant Jordan considers the role of scientific advice in shaping governmental decisions on matters such as BSE, GM foods, global warming - and the consequences of a divided scientific view. He looks at the use of the media by groups and companies attempting to control the political agenda.

Book The Legal Regime of Offshore Oil Rigs in International Law

Download or read book The Legal Regime of Offshore Oil Rigs in International Law written by Hossein Esmaeili and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews and examines the relevant portions of all international treaties, cases and the national law and practice of states, in relation to international aspects of offshore oil rigs. By doing so, it offers an understanding of the legal regime surrounding oil rigs and formulates an international law framework. It investigates the issues under consideration by analyzing provisions of international law pertaining to all aspects of oil rigs, as well as international treaties and their travaux preparatoires. It also examines the national legislation of major offshore oil and gas producers and defines a framework of customary international entities such as the OSPAR and the petroleum industries of certain major offshore oil producers. Based upon the book's findings, it is clear that in spite of their increasing importance, offshore oil installations are subject to fragmentary and vague legal rules under international law.

Book Reputation Risk and Globalisation

Download or read book Reputation Risk and Globalisation written by Terry O’Callaghan and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, multinational corporations have begun to reinvent themselves as socially responsible actors, largely in response to anti-corporate activist pressure. The author argues that a concern with corporate reputation is leading to an ideational shift in corporate behaviour – in essence, it is disciplining their behaviour. This innovative exploration of the idea of a self-regulating corporation in an era of globalisation first examines the link between corporate reputation, corporate behaviour and self-regulation, and then goes on to compare and contrast various studies of multinational corporations that have sought to self-regulate. Terry O’Callaghan includes a multifaceted critique of anti-corporate activists. This acknowledges both the dangers that multinational corporations pose to communities, and that anti-corporate activists are the first group to understand the potential risk of targeted campaigns to corporate reputations. He also illustrates his points using three case studies of companies that have attempted to self-regulate: Royal Dutch Shell, the Toyota Motor Corporation and Interface Inc. Undergraduate and postgraduate students of international business, management and business ethics will be interested in the essential topics covered in this book. Academics and practitioners alike will appreciate its accessible lessons about reputational capital and holding multinational corporations accountable.

Book Offshore Decommissioning in Malaysia Lessons from the UK s Regulatory Landscape and Implementation

Download or read book Offshore Decommissioning in Malaysia Lessons from the UK s Regulatory Landscape and Implementation written by Sarah Wafiq and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Politics - Region: South Asia, grade: Distinction, Coventry University, language: English, abstract: This research aimed at determining whether the Malaysian regulatory landscape governing the offshore decommissioning of petroleum facilities is adequate to face the scale of offshore decommissioning activities that will involve Malaysia, or whether it may need to be reviewed and inspired by the more established and long-standing UK’s offshore decommissioning regime and practices. The researcher estimated that 195 offshore installations will undergo decommissioning in Malaysia by the year 2025, with a growth of offshore decommissioning activities equal to 244.4% over a ten-year period. Nevertheless, Malaysia has not yet promulgated any national decommissioning regulations for the oil and gas (O&G) industry – it only relies on the guidelines provided by its national oil company (NOC) PETRONAS. However, both these guidelines and the current Malaysian oil production-sharing contract (PSC) appear to be lacking guiding principles, and seem to be allowing international oil companies (IOCs) to escape their legal and financial responsibilities associated with offshore decommissioning. In light of these information, therefore, a comparison was carried out between the British and Malaysian offshore decommissioning scenarios, and possible improvement actions to the Malaysian legal and practical framework, inspired by the British one, were proposed by the researcher.
