Book excerpt: The Rig Veda is an ancient Indian sacred collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns. It is counted among the four canonical sacred texts (sruti) of Hinduism known as the Vedas. The Rig Veda contains several mythological and poetical accounts of the origin of the world, hymns praising the gods, and ancient prayers for life, prosperity, etc. Some of its verses are still recited as Hindu prayers, at religious functions and other occasions, making it probably the world's oldest religious texts in continued use. The Rigvedic hymns are dedicated to various deities, chief of whom are Indra, a heroic god praised for having slain his enemy Vrtra; Agni, the sacrificial fire; and Soma, the sacred potion or the plant it is made from. Equally prominent gods are the Adityas or Asura gods Mitra-Varuna and Ushas (the dawn). Also invoked are Savitr, Vishnu, Rudra, Pushan, Brihaspati or Brahmanaspati, as well as deified natural phenomena such as Dyaus Pita (the shining sky, Father Heaven), Prithivi (the earth, Mother Earth), Surya (the sun god), Vayu or Vata (the wind), Apas (the waters), Parjanya (the thunder and rain), Vac (the word), many rivers (notably the Sapta Sindhu, and the Sarasvati River). The Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, Sadhyas, Ashvins, Maruts, Rbhus, and the Vishvadevas ("all-gods") as well as the "thirty-three gods" are the groups of deities mentioned. The hymns mention various further minor gods, persons, phenomena and items, and contain fragmentary references to possible historical events, notably the struggle between the early Vedic people (known as Vedic Aryans, a subgroup of the Indo-Aryans) and their enemies, the Dasa or Dasyu and their mythical prototypes, the Pani (the Bactrian Parna).

Most of the mantras in Rigveda are also in praise of the deities. Most of the mantras are in praise of Indra Devta. The number of mantras in Rigveda is considered to be 10552. Form of Rigveda? Rigveda is divided into two types. In which there are ten mandalas in the first, anuvak in the mandalas, hymns in anuvak, hymns in the hymns, that is, mantras. This is called the Mandala sequence in which there are 10 Mandalas, 85 are Anuvakas, 1028 are Suktas and 10552 are Mantras. The second division of the Rigveda is called the Ashtak sequence in which it is divided into Ashtaks. The entire Rigveda is divided into eight ashtaks. There are eight chapters in an Ashtak, thus the entire Rigveda is divided into 64 chapters. Chapters are also divided into sections. However, the number of sections varies according to the chapter. The total number of classes is 2024. There are mantras in each class.Branches of Rigveda It is believed that in the beginning there were 21 branches of Rigveda, its 21 branches are also mentioned in the Mahabhashya written by Patanjali. In the book called Charanvyuh, these five branches have been described as Shakal, Vashkal, Ashvalayani, Shankhayani and Mandukayani. At present, only the Shakal branch of Rigveda is prevalent. The code of Shakal branch is considered special in many ways. Sage of Rigveda Mantras It is believed about the Vedas that it was not composed by any particular person, but various sages had knowledge of its mantras by God. The names of Gritsamad, Vishwamitra, Vamadeva, Atri, Bharadvaja, Vashishta, Bhrigu and Angira can be prominently mentioned among the sages who see the mantras of Rigveda. Veda Mantras Not only to male sages, but there have been some women in the Vedic era, to whom God gave the knowledge of mantras, in which the names of Vaak Ambhrini, Surya, Savitri, Sarparagni, Yami, Vaivaswati, Urvashi, Lopamudra, Ghosha etc. can go.

Instructors and students still teach them orally today. Virtual classrooms have allowed females to learn the Vedas and how they were changed through technology. Samaveda has a much more intricate connection with Rigveda than the other Vedas. Because all its verses except seventy-five are directly drawn from the Rigveda, it holds great historical significance. The eighth and especially the ninth of the Soma book provide the bulk of its content. It is similar to the Yajurveda in having been composed only for ritual use since the verses are all intended for chanting during the offering ceremonies. Unlike those in the Rigveda, these stanzas appear in the Sama-Veda as if they were to be spoken or recited. Their significance is solely determined by their relevance to particular rites, removed from their context in the Rigveda. The Vedas have been the subject of voluminous literature over the centuries, written in many languages, including English. Due to their symbolic language, the Vedas remain elusive. Despite exploring every ancient Indian sourcebook, Shankara, Ramanuja, and Madhva did not write full commentaries on the Vedas. Vedas are enigmatic and ethereal, and this adds to their mystery. In contrast to the voluminous commentary on Upanishads, Bhagawad Gita, Brahma sutras, and Mahapuranas, Sri Madhva wrote a short Rigbhyasya. Sayana Madhava, also known as Sayanacharya, is the most common source of information on the Vedas. Vedic texts are covered in complete detail in this voluminous work, basically a literal translation of the Vedas. Those who criticize it point out that it ignores the Vedas' symbolism and the Vedic tenets' hidden meanings. It is for this reason that the Vedas remain inadequately illuminated. In addition, Vedic Sanskrit differs from classical Sanskrit, a currently taught, written, and spoken language. A widespread family of languages, the proto-Indo-European languages, is derived from it.
