Book Warriors Don t Cry

Download or read book Warriors Don t Cry written by Melba Pattillo Beals and published by Tantor eBooks. This book was released on 2011-10-03 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The landmark 1954 Supreme Court ruling, Brown v. Board of Education, brought the promise of integration to Little Rock, Arkansas, but it was hard-won for the nine black teenagers chosen to integrate Central High School in 1957. They ran a gauntlet flanked by a rampaging mob and a heavily armed Arkansas National Guard—opposition so intense that soldiers from the elite 101st Airborne Division were called in to restore order. For Melba Beals and her eight friends those steps marked their transformation into reluctant warriors—on a battlefield that helped shape the civil rights movement. Warriors Don't Cry, drawn from Melba Beals's personal diaries, is a riveting true account of her junior year at Central High—one filled with telephone threats, brigades of attacking mothers, rogue police, fireball and acid-throwing attacks, economic blackmail, and, finally, a price upon Melba's head. With the help of her English-teacher mother; her eight fellow warriors; and her gun-toting, Bible-and-Shakespeare-loving grandmother, Melba survived. And, incredibly, from a year that would hold no sweet-sixteen parties or school plays, Melba Beals emerged with indestructible faith, courage, strength, and hope.

Book Lyrics On Matters Relating To

Download or read book Lyrics On Matters Relating To written by c jh griffin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-10-21 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We asked for it. We asked for the "knowledge of good and of evil." and we got it. Adam and Eve enabled us to experience "good" and "evil" for every moment of our waking lives. We can see it. We can feel it. We can hear it, taste it and touch it. Evil is everywhere. Check it out for yourselves. The whole story of how it happened is in Genesis 3. You may disagree but never the less, disagreeing will not change the plight of mankind. What is there for one to say about the knowing of "good and evil" except that there is nothing "good" about "evil." Satan was "subtle" and remains so. Our problem is, too many of us don't believe he exists. We say, "How can anyone be so mean?" ...or God is too good to allow evil." Ignorance is in itself, evil for until you know better, you will not be able to do better. I say look up. Look around you. Satan is the personification of evil, the father of lies. Believe it or not, you are not as smart as Adam and Eve were! They made the mistake of "listening to another voice" and they submitted themselves to it. We do it all the time, that is, until we learn to do better. This book is a collection of experiences, examples of the "good" and the "evil", we experience as promised, wherein God said of the tree, "for in the day you eat of it you shall die." (Gen 2:18) and in Joh 3: 16-17, "For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him, shall not perish but have eternal life."

Book excerpt: "The richness of the material and its skillful assembly make this a very readable volume ... revealing a wonderful range of perspective, from personal, intimate reflections to timely comments on the politics and society of both Prague and the Czech Republic of the era under study." - Journal of the Society for the Anthropology of Europe "Wilma Iggers offers English-reading audiences fascinating new perspectives ... in a sensitive introduction to the city's modern experience and translated sections from the writings of twelve women ... This volume is particularly welcome since the work of most of these writers has not been readily available in English before." - Gary B. Cohen, University of Oklahoma For many centuries Prague has exerted a particular fascination because of its beauty and therichness of its culture and history. Its famous group of German and Czech writers of mostly Jewish extraction in the earlier part of this century has deeply influenced Western culture. However, little attention has so far been paid to the roles of women in the history of thisethnically diverse area in around Prague. Based on largely autobiographical writings and letters by women and enhanced by extensive historical introduction, this book redresses a serious imbalance. The vivid and often moving portraits, which emerge from the varied material used bythe author, offer fascinating and new insights into the social and cultural history of this region.

Book When Skies Are Gray

Download or read book When Skies Are Gray written by Lindsey M. Henke and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-05-21 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lindsey Henke is freshly married and a newly practicing psychotherapist when she finds out she is pregnant with her first child. Nine months later, on a cold Minnesota night in December 2012, after a perfect pregnancy, Lindsey goes into labor—only to be told upon arrival at the hospital that her baby has no heartbeat. After the stillbirth of her daughter, Lindsey grapples with the unbearable agony of losing a child. Unprepared to cope with a sorrow this deep, she uses the only tools she has—her skills as a therapist—to plot her own path through grief. Over the next year and half, as Lindsey mourns the loss of one child while simultaneously trying to hold space for the joy of expecting another baby, she learns that grief can live side by side with joy. When Skies Are Gray offers a poignant message to any mother who is grieving: Your pain is real. The sharp ache of the grief you feel will soften over time, though your love for the child you lost will always remain. And it’s okay to feel that love; it’s a mother’s love, and like lullabies, a mother’s love never dies.

Download or read book Breaking The Cycle written by Eddie Mckissic and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-09-02 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Royce learned two huge lessons in this relationship: loving someone requires more than just love, and second, time tells everything. People will show you who they are, and it is your choice to decide what you are going to do with that information, judge people on how they treat you when they don't need you, and recognize the difference between someone who is loving you out of love and someone who is loving you for survival. The book is called Breaking the Cycle because it shows how the couple didn't end up in the statistics that they should have. In most of the relationship stories we hear today, when there is a breakup, it usually ends up in nothing but hate toward each other. Royce and Alyssa were able to break that cycle and were able to co-parent effectively for their daughter. Royce was also able to become successful and provide for his daughter against all those odds. As for Alyssa, she is still trying to figure out her path to becoming an aspiring actress as she spends most of her days waitressing until an opportunity presents itself. The crazy baby mom/baby dad stories we have all went through or heard of from our peers is nothing compared to this.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This autobiography is about a characters transition from a curious child, to an evil adolescent into a highly self-secure spiritual man. As a child he loves and is very close to his grandmother, whom although poor, she's always happy, very spiritual and the only real example of anyone being close to God. He loves to sit down with her and listen curiously as she discribes the beauty of heaven, aswell as reads and explaines, the at times grim prophecies of the bible. Still to young to understand, he would remain a confused and bitter unbeliever, due to all the pain and suffering that surrounded him on a daily basis. He's a child growing up in a very tough racially divided community, who never looks for trouble but trouble always finds him. At first he could care less and isn't impressed by the hoods in the fast life. But on the surface, compared to his mother and any hard working individual, it was the hoods that had it all. So by the time he'd become an adolescent, he's tired of being poor, any good he had left in him has faded and he vows to do whatever it takes to get ahead even if he has to kill! In the process he prays to the devil, makes an abundance of money, gains power and attains an unbelievable amount of notoriety. He'd become almost uncontrollable to the point, where he's very aware but dosn't care, that he only has two stops left, life in prison or eternal death in hell! Untill one fateful day when he's made to think about his only son, after a crime he'd commited that could have hurt or even killed an enemies innocent kids and thus began his road to repentance.
