Book Cretaceous and Eocene Decapod Crustaceans from Southern Vancouver Island British Columbia Canada

Download or read book Cretaceous and Eocene Decapod Crustaceans from Southern Vancouver Island British Columbia Canada written by Carrie Ellen Schweitzer and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A large collection of fossil decapod crustaceans from Cretaceous and Eocene rocks of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, has yielded a remarkably diverse fauna. The Cretaceous decapod fauna, including previously described and new taxa, contains 17 genera in 14 families, represented by as many as 22 species. The Eocene fauna is less robust, with 7 species and 6 genera in 6 families. This publication includes one new family; three new genera; eight new species; and nine new combinations.

Book A Worldwide Review of Fossil and Extant Glypheid and Litogastrid Lobsters Crustacea Decapoda Glypheoidea

Download or read book A Worldwide Review of Fossil and Extant Glypheid and Litogastrid Lobsters Crustacea Decapoda Glypheoidea written by Sylvain Charbonnier and published by French National Museum Natural History. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major new reference on fossil, extant glypheid, and litogastrid lobsters, this book offers detailed descriptions of all 120 species alongside photographs and reproductions of historical illustrations when possible. The authors take into account recently added species, as well as progress in the analysis of their history and evolutionary development that has changed our view of the generic and familial classifications of these animals. With almost six hundred drawings, engravings, and photos, this volume is an essential guide to the many types of lobsters.

Book A Classification of Living and Fossil Genera of Decapod Crustaceans

Download or read book A Classification of Living and Fossil Genera of Decapod Crustaceans written by Sammy De Grave and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an updated classification for the entire Crustacea Decapoda, listing all known families and genera organized by higher taxonomic groups and including estimates of the number of species in every genus. All taxonomic names are also linked to the verified literature in which they were described, the first compilation of its kind for the Decapoda. To arrive at this compilation, we began with the classification scheme provided by Martin & Davis (2001) for extant families, updated the higher classification and included the fossil taxa. The resultant framework was then populated with the currently valid genera and an estimate of species numbers within each genus. Our resulting classification, spanning both extant (living) and fossil taxa, is the first comprehensive estimate of taxonomic diversity within the entire Decapoda. The classification consists of 233 families of decapods containing 2,725 genera and an estimated 17,635 species (including both extant and fossil species). Of the families in our classification, 53 are exclusively fossil, 109 contain both fossil and extant species, and 71 are extant only. The current estimate for extant species is 14,756, whereas 2,979 species are known exclusively as fossils.

Book Advances in Freshwater Decapod Systematics and Biology

Download or read book Advances in Freshwater Decapod Systematics and Biology written by Darren Yeo and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decapods are the largest, most prominent, and, unfortunately, most threatened freshwater crustaceans. Advances in Freshwater Decapod Systematics and Biology presents a selection of papers by geographical and domain experts, in taxonomy, phylogenetics, biogeography, life history, and conservation. The major groups of freshwater decapods—crabs, crayfish, prawns, and anomurans—are all represented. This volume includes a chapter commemorating Richard Bott’s influence on freshwater crab/decapod biology; descriptions of seven new species (Atyidae, Aeglidae, Pseudothelphusidae, Potamidae, and Sesarmidae); chapters on larval-based phylogenetics and molecular clock calibration; and reviews of longevity and mortality, and of the global conservation status of freshwater decapods. This volume both reflects the current state of research and serves as a primer for future work and more integrative decapod research. Contributors include: Shane T. Ahyong, Klaus Anger, Georgina Bond-Buckup, Ludwig Buckup, Yixiong Cai, Christian Clavijo, Neil Cumberlidge, James M. Furse, Alberto S.
