Book Debris Impact on Emergency Coolant Recirculation

Download or read book Debris Impact on Emergency Coolant Recirculation written by and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under normal operation, nuclear reactor fuel is cooled by water circulating in the primary circuit. In the case of an accident, the reactor is stopped automatically, and residual fuel heat must be evacuated, typically by use of a safety injection system and a reactor containment spray system. This publication contains the proceedings of a workshop, held in New Mexico, United States in February 2004, to discuss recent research and developments to deal with the impact of debris (such as insulating material, concrete particles or paint) on emergency coolant recirculation systems.

Book Nuclear Safety

Download or read book Nuclear Safety written by Gianni Petrangeli and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-05-30 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Safety provides the methods and data needed to evaluate and manage the safety of nuclear facilities and related processes using risk-based safety analysis, and provides readers with the techniques to assess the consequences of radioactive releases. The book covers relevant international and regional safety criteria (US, IAEA, EUR, PUN, URD, INI). The contents deal with each of the critical components of a nuclear plant, and provide an analysis of the risks arising from a variety of sources, including earthquakes, tornadoes, external impact and human factors. It also deals with the safety of underground nuclear testing and the handling of radioactive waste. Covers all plant components and potential sources of risk including human, technical and natural factors. Brings together information on nuclear safety for which the reader would previously have to consult many different and expensive sources. Provides international design and safety criteria and an overview of regulatory regimes.

Book Methodology for Evaluation of Insulation debris Effects Containment Emergency Sump Performance unresolved Safety Issue A 43

Download or read book Methodology for Evaluation of Insulation debris Effects Containment Emergency Sump Performance unresolved Safety Issue A 43 written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The postulated failure of high energy piping within a light water reactor containment has raised safety questions related to the generation of insulation debris, the migration of such debris to the containment emergency sump screens and the potential for severe screen blockages. High, or total, screen blockages could result in impairment of the long term RHR recirculation systems. Debris considerations are an integral part of the unresolved Safety Issue A-43, Containment Emergency Sump Performance. This report develops calculational methods and debris transport models which can be used for estimating the quantities of debris that might be generated by a LOCA, the transport of such debris, methods for estimating screen blockages and attendant pressure losses. Five operating plants were analyzed using this debris evaluation methodology. These calculations show the dependency on plant containment layout, sump location and design, and types and quantities of insulation employed. 9 figures, 6 tables.

Book Nuclear Power Plant Safety and Mechanical Integrity

Download or read book Nuclear Power Plant Safety and Mechanical Integrity written by George Antaki and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most critical requirements for safe and reliable nuclear power plant operations is the availability of competent maintenance personnel. However, just as the nuclear power industry is experiencing a renaissance, it is also experiencing an exodus of seasoned maintenance professionals due to retirement. The perfect guide for engineers just entering the field or experienced maintenance supervisors who need to keep abreast of the latest industry best practices, Nuclear Power Plant Maintenance: Mechanical Systems, Equipment and Safety covers the most common issues faced in day-to-day operations and provides practical, technically proven solutions. The book also explains how to navigate the various maintenance codes, standards and regulations for the nuclear power industry. Discusses 50 common issues faced by engineers in the nuclear power plant field Provides advice for complying with international codes and standards (including ASME) Describes safety classification for systems and components Includes case studies to clearly explain the lessons learned over decades in the nuclear power industry
