Book excerpt: Former madam-turned author Cheri Woods will reveal the shocking stories of the sex lives of the rich and famous, which includes: studio heads, producers, directors, celebrities, rock stars, sports figures, mobsters and a cast of others, in her book which goes behind the scenes of Hollywood's dazzling movie studios to the top recording studios, where prostitution and cocaine were the real deal makers. Cheri will also share intimate details of her marriage to international pop star Stevie Woods whose record "Steal the Night" hit the charts i the 80's along with his co-produced European hit record "Rock Me Baby." Stevie later skated to fame as the star of the musical play "Starlight Express." Throughout this book, I chronicle my life in the fast lane amongst the glitz and glamour of Hollywood's most sought after stars. I open up the casting couch, a vehicle that exists for studio heads - for whom nothing is more tempting than a young naive, beautiful girl lacking in self esteem, yet bursting with dreams and willing to do anything to fulfill them, and how I was able to turn the casting couch into a multimillion dollar business. I will finally break the madam's code of silence, as you discover the shocking, kinky stories of the sex lives of the rich and famous, which includes studio heads, producers, directors, celebrities, rock stars, sports figures, mobsters, and a cast of others, where I have left nothing to the imagination and spared no one. Writing this book was a form of therapy for me, as it gave me the chance to finally tell my story, and gain the justice that I never received as a victim of the legal system. Written to entertain you, it is filled with the comedy, tragedy, and scandal of my life, having gone from a ghetto welfare recipient, to one of Hollywood's most notorious madams.

Book Death Row The Final Minutes

Download or read book Death Row The Final Minutes written by Michelle Lyons and published by Bonnier Publishing Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-05-03 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IN 12 YEARS, MICHELLE LYONS WITNESSED NEARLY 300 EXECUTIONS. First as a reporter and then as a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Michelle was a frequent visitor to Huntsville's Walls Unit, where she recorded and relayed the final moments of death row inmates' lives before they were put to death by the state. Michelle was in the death chamber as some of the United States' most notorious criminals, including serial killers, child murderers and rapists, spoke their last words on earth, while a cocktail of lethal drugs surged through their veins. Michelle supported the death penalty, before misgivings began to set in as the executions mounted. During her time in the prison system, and together with her dear friend and colleague, Larry Fitzgerald, she came to know and like some of the condemned men and women she saw die. She began to query the arbitrary nature of the death penalty and ask the question: do executions make victims of all of us? An incredibly powerful and unique look at the complex story of capital punishment, as told by those whose lives have been shaped by it, Death Row: The Final Minutes is an important take on crime and punishment at a fascinating point in America's political history.

Book Prisoner Voices from Death Row

Download or read book Prisoner Voices from Death Row written by Reena Mary George and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death penalty has produced endless discourses not only in the context of prisons, prisoners and punishment but also in various legal aspects concerning the validity of death penalty, the right to life, and torture. Death penalty is embedded in Indian law, however very little is known about the people who are on death row barring a few media reports on them. The main objective of this book is to enquire whether the dignity of prisoners is upheld while they confront the criminal justice system and whilst surviving on death row. Additionally, it explores the lived-experiences and perceptions of prisoners on death row as they create meaning out of their world. With this rationale, 111 prisoners on death row in India and some of their family members were interviewed. The theoretical underpinnings of phenomenology and symbolic interactionism coupled with data analysis lead to an understanding of the prisoners on death row with special reference to their demographic profile and the impact of death sentence on their families. George’s research highlights three salient features, namely: poverty, social exclusion and marginalisation are antecedent to death penalty; death penalty is a constructed account by the state machinery; and prisoners on death row situate dignity higher in the juxtaposition of death and dignity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brooke Rottiers used her bras and underwear to strangle two men to death, and even shoved a pair of panties down one man's throat. Brittany Holberg couldn't decide on the perfect murder weapon, so she used a butcher knife, a grapefruit knife, two forks, a hammer, a skillet, a steam iron, a space heater, and a lamp pole to dispatch her victim. And Juanita Spinelli, known as "The Duchess," never killed anyone with her own hands but still earned a trip to the gas chamber as the leader of a gang of carnival rejects and misfit criminals. Death Row's Wildest Women takes a wry, irreverent look at 13 of history's most ferocious females. Meet Eva Dugan, AKA Claw-Finger Kitty, a former cabaret dancer who literally lost her head on the day of her hanging due to a faulty noose. Learn about Antoinette Frank, the crooked cop who killed two people during a restaurant robbery then showed up at the murder scene again hours later to investigate the crime. Read about a woman who had sex with a future state senator in the back seat of a car on her way to the electric chair, and another woman who experienced sexual pleasure with every swing of her pickax as she committed a gruesome double murder. These death row inmates had one thing in common; they were all women, but their behavior was anything but ladylike

Book Helen Prejean

Download or read book Helen Prejean written by Joyce Duriga and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No person has worked more effectively toward the abolition of the death penalty in the United States than Helen Prejean, CSJ. Her best-selling book Dead Man Walking, and the hit Hollywood film adaptation in which she was played by Susan Sarandon, was a catalyst for drawing national attention to the issue. In the years since then, her continuing and often controversial work with death-row inmates has kept the issue near the forefront of national debate. She has confronted lawyers and judges, politicians and the media, to expose the indignity and injustice of the death penalty and inhumane prison conditions. In Helen Prejean: Death Row’s Nun, Joyce Duriga explores Sister Helen’s life growing up in upper-middle-class Louisiana, her growing awareness of the injustice of the death penalty, and its disproportionate targeting of the poor and minorities, and her introduction to death-row inmates Patrick Sonnier and Robert Lee Willie. Through this book, readers will witness her life’s work with victims and their families, and see how she came to understand her role in prison ministry, not only as an activist but as a champion fighting for hope and restorative justice for those facing the death penalty.

Book Last Words from Death Row

Download or read book Last Words from Death Row written by Norma Herrera and published by Nightengale Press. This book was released on 2007-02 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norma Herrera lived her brother's personal hell as he waited on Death Row for the courts to decide if the new evidence that proved Leonel Herrera's innocence would save his life. Her book fulfills her last promise to Leo: to tell his story, to tell the truth. "Federal habeas courts do not sit to correct errors of fact but to ensure the individuals are not imprisoned in violation of the Constitution," it said. In other words, being falsely imprisoned is not a violation of your rights. Herrera was executed four months after the ruling. In his final statement he said: "I am innocent, innocent, innocent. I am an innocent man, and something very wrong is taking place tonight." Norma Herrera's book documents court events and press coverage. She recounts the tribulations she and her family suffered as they worked to free Leonel Herrera from his fate. If the all the court proceedings, including the Supreme Court's decision prior to Leo's execution represent the visible tip of the death penalty iceberg, LAST WORDS FROM DEATH ROW exposes the enormous human tragedy that resides below the surface. Her questions drive a powerful wedge between the legal process in capital cases and the truth. Why do the guilty go unpunished? When is innocence not enough to free a convicted man? Does Truth not prevail in the American Justice system? Who pays? We all do. Who is next?

Book Back from the Dead

Download or read book Back from the Dead written by Joan M. Cheever and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2006-07-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would happen if the United States abolished the death penalty and emptied its Death Rows? If killers were released from prison? What would they do with their second chance to live? Would they kill again? Back From The Dead is the story of 589 former death row inmates who, through a lottery of fate, were given a second chance at life in 1972 when the death penalty was abolished; it returned to the United States four years later. During the years she represented Walter Williams on Texas’ Death Row, Cheever always wondered what would happen if his death sentence was reversed and he was eventually released from prison. Would he have killed again? Two years after Williams’ execution, Cheever was determined to find the answer. Leaving her young family and comfortable life in suburbia, she traveled across the U.S. and into the lives and homes of former Death Row inmates, armed only with a tape recorder, notepad, a cell phone that didn’t always work, and a lot of faith. In Back from the Dead , Cheever describes her own journey and reveals these tales of second chances: of tragedy and failure, racism and injustice, and redemption and rehabilitation. Book Women on the Row

Download or read book Women on the Row written by Kathleen A. O'Shea and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Kathleen O'Shea didn't set out looking for connections with women on death row. She wanted information about them--who they are, the ways in which they live from day to day. "I was writing a sociological reference book," she tells us, "a fairly safe, fairly emotionless endeavor." As she got to know the incarcerated women she was studying, however, what became clear to her were not their differences, but how, in so many ways, she and the women in prison were the same. Arguably, Kathleen O'Shea is the only person to have contacted every woman currently in U.S. prisons with a death sentence. Women On The Row: Revelations From Both Sides of the Bars is her honest, startling, sometimes raw, sometimes radiant exploration of the places where doing heavy time and being free overlap. Neither a treatise against the death penalty, nor an apologia for female innocence, Women On The Row focuses on the interconnectedness of women's lives. The author creates memorable composite portaits of ten death row women based on her conversations with them, on information that has been given to her, and juxtaposes vignettes from her own life "outside" for a call and response across realities. She reflects on her encounters with condemned women and how their stories illuminate her own. In the process she gives us creative nonfiction with the power to challenge deeply held assumptions."--BOOK JACKET.

The murder occurred when Pike was 18 years old. Pike and her then-boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp who was 17 at the time of the murder were convicted of Slemmer's murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Another friend of the defendants and the victim, Shadolla Peterson, also 18 at the time, was convicted as an accessory after the fact and given six years' probation after turning informant. Pike was sentenced to death by electrocution in 1996 and, at the time, she had the distinction of being the youngest woman ever to be sentenced to death, in any state and only the second women given the death penalty in Tennessee.
