Mountain Man Smoke Jensen’s long-lost brother Luke Jensen is a dead shot scarred by war—the perfect formula for a bounty hunter. And he’s cunning, and fierce enough to bring down the deadliest outlaws of his day . . . Law of the Gun Luke Jensen has earned this bounty, hunting down the violent man charged with murdering a preacher’s daughter. The outlaw Judd Tyler confesses to many crimes, but not the girl’s murder. And he tells Luke they won’t reach the town of White Fork alive because a corrupt sheriff does the bidding of a cattle baron, and that man’s son is the true killer. Sure enough, halfway to White Fork, Luke and his prisoner are battling for their lives, and when they finally reach town, they’re greeted by a storm of bullets, betrayal, and blood. With a band of innocent travelers caught up in the melee, Luke is outgunned, surrounded, and sure of one thing: his only job now is survival—by the measured, efficient, righteous killing of as many men as he can . . . Praise for the novels of William W. Johnstone “[A] rousing, two-fisted saga of the growing American frontier.”—Publishers Weekly on Eyes of Eagles “There’s plenty of gunplay and fast-paced action.”—Curled Up with a Good Book on Dead Before Sundown

Book REFLECTIONS OF A B MOVIE JUNKIE

Download or read book REFLECTIONS OF A B MOVIE JUNKIE written by Jim Driscoll and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-12-30 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Reflections Of A 'B' Movie Junkie" is a tribute to the old "B" Movies of the Saturday Matinees of yesteryear. Actually, it is more of a homage to them, or at least (6) genres of those film types, that were so prevalent back in primarily the '40's and '50's. Their research and discussion, however, in some instances, dates all the way back to the beginning of the "talkies" of motion picture content, and can extend in the other direction, into the early '70s. These (6) genres include the popular "B"-Western, The Comedy Teams, The Jungle Adventures, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Horror and the Serial, or Chapter Plays, so popular with the week-end Matinee crowds back then. These film-types filled up our Saturday afternoons (and evenings) with exciting adventure, curious wonder, spine-tingling horror, and non-stop action. Often filmed on a shoe-string budget, and in a limited time-frame, many of these "classics" came to be looked upon by many fans as being so truly bad, that they were good, (in a bad sort of way) ! They are thus categorized, reviewed and discussed, for the most part, in a lovingly personal style, especially when compared to the film types we are subjected to in today's market. They had their place in film history, and that time is long since gone. But, for some of us, they have never been equaled, which, for others, may indeed be a good thing.

Book Westerns and American Culture 1930 1955

Download or read book Westerns and American Culture 1930 1955 written by R. Philip Loy and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people have fond memories of Friday nights and Saturday afternoons spent in theatres watching cowboy stars of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s chase villains across the silver screen or help a heroine out of harm's way. Over 2,600 Westerns were produced between 1930 and 1955 and they became a defining part of American culture. This work focuses on the idea that Westerns were one of the vehicles by which viewers learned the values and norms of a wide range of social relationships and behavior, and thus examines the ways in which Western movies reflected American life and culture during this quarter century. Chapters discuss such topics as the ways that Westerns included current events in film plot and dialogue, reinforced the role of Christianity in American culture, reflected the emergence of a strong central government, and mirrored attitudes toward private enterprise. Also covered is how Westerns represented racial minorities, women, and Indians.

Book Poverty Row Studios 1929 1940

Download or read book Poverty Row Studios 1929 1940 written by Michael R. Pitts and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the beginning of the sound era until the end of the 1930s, independent movie-making thrived. Many of the independent studios were headquartered in a section of Hollywood called "Poverty Row." Here the independents made movies on the cheap, usually at rented facilities where shooting was limited to only a few days. From Allied Pictures Corporation to Willis Kent Production, 55 Poverty Row Studios are given histories in this book. Some of the studios, such as Diversion Pictures and Cresent Pictures, came into existence for the sole purpose of releasing movies by established stars. Others, for example J.D. Kendis, were early exploitation filmmakers under the guise of sex education. The histories include critical commentary on the studio's output and a filmography of all titles released from 1929 through 1940.
