And now, thankfully, the throbbing had eased in his head, the red rage diminished... When a Swedish high-class call girl is brutally murdered on the quayside in Stockholm, the murderer seeks new prey to stalk, slips his moorings in Sweden and heads for the forests of Wales. In the middle of a raging storm in the depths of a God forsaken forest, miles from civilisation; a wrecked rally car had knocked some guy out of existence and ruined a girl’s life... Alex is a girl with a flair for mechanical design and a passion for rallysport, who is caught up in a rally accident in Wales. In the 1980s world of special-stage car rallies, the sport depends on volunteers and it is to these people she owes her life. Philip heads up a building design company and loves Landrovers. Philomena is a self-employed nurse and supports her mother’s craze for landscape painting. Tabitha is a go-getting entrepreneur with a possessive penchant for her male friends. Read how a bicycle accident and near death experience changed the author's life along with her understanding of life and death. Out of this experience also came her job of escorting the dead to the afterlife. A job that she says, “…is filled with as much heartache as it is joy. It’s a job that has taught me a lot about compassion and love, but most of all, it has taught me that death isn’t the end of life.” The accident opened up a world that most us never see until we die; however, for her, it’s a world that she visits often while escorting departing souls to their new existence in the afterlife.

With so much money and more at stake, lives are, too, and it’s up to USMC Major Cletus Frade—the top OSS spook in “neutral” Argentina—to find out. That is, before the ruthless Nazis order his murder...

Book Servants of Satan

Download or read book Servants of Satan written by Joseph Klaits and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 1987-02-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How the persecution of witches reflected the darker side of the central social, political, and cultural developments of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This is the first book to consider the general course and significance of the European witch craze of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries since H.R. Trevor-Roper’s classic and pioneering study appeared some fifteen years ago. Drawing upon the advances in historical and social-science scholarship of the past decade and a half, Joseph Klaits integrates the recent appreciations of witchcraft in regional studies, the history of popular culture, anthropology, sociology, and psychology to better illuminate the place of witch hunting in the context of social, political, economic and religious change. “In all, Klaits has done a good job. Avoiding the scandalous and sensational, he has maintained throughout, with sensitivity and economy, an awareness of the uniqueness of the theories and persecutions that have fascinated scholars now for two decades and are unlikely to lose their appeal in the foreseeable future.” —American Historical Review “This is a commendable synthesis whose time has come . . . fascinating.” —The Sixteenth Century Journal “Comprehensive and clearly written . . . An excellent book.” —Choice “Impeccable research and interpretation stand behind this scholarly but not stultifying account.” —Booklist “A good, solid, general treatment.” —Erik Midelfort, C. Julian Bishko Professor Emeritus of History and Religious Studies, University of Virginia “A well written, easy to read book, and the bibliography is a good source of secondary materials for further reading.” —Journal of American Folklore

Book The Death of Ben Linder

Download or read book The Death of Ben Linder written by Joan Kruckewitt and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1987, the death of Ben Linder, the first American killed by President Reagan's "freedom fighters" -- the U.S.-backed Nicaraguan Contras -- ignited a firestorm of protest and debate. In this landmark first biography of Linder, investigative journalist Joan Kruckewitt tells his story. In the summer of 1983, a 23-year-old American named Ben Linder arrived in Managua with a unicycle and a newly earned degree in engineering. In 1986, Linder moved from Managua to El Cuá, a village in the Nicaraguan war zone, where he helped form a team to build a hydroplant to bring electricity to the town. He was ambushed and killed by the Contras the following year while surveying a stream for a possible hydroplant. In 1993, Kruckewitt traveled to the Nicaraguan mountains to investigate Linder's death. In July 1995. she finally located and interviewed one of the men who killed Ben Linder, a story that became the basis for a New Yorker feature on Linder's death. Linder's story is a portrait of one idealist who died for his beliefs, as well as a picture of a failed foreign policy, vividly exposing the true dimensions of a war that forever marked the lives of both Nicaraguans and Americans.
