Book excerpt: Taylor Simon is the well to do owner of Simon Investigations who has been summoned home by her grandfather due to a number of his friends who have apparently fallen victim to a serial killer. His fear is that he may be next, and all that stands in the way of him surviving is the help from Taylor, his quick-witted granddaughter. Determined to save her grandfather, she is caught in a dichotomous situation with Sheriff Rick Thorn. Taylor has been secretly in love with the sheriff for years, but she too has a past which she desperately needs to keep hidden from Rick. Now that they are working on the case together, their lives start to intertwine to the point where everything may come out! While Taylor is working to capture a serial killer, she finds a new wrinkle that may make the whole situation explode. There has been a new generic drug that less than scrupulous people have experimented with. With it comes the morphing into killing machines with powers the world has never seen before. With all this raining down on Taylor at once, she must rectify in her own heart the relationship she is starting to have with Rick and the interaction with his beautiful teenage daughter. Can she save her grandfather, or will she have to choose between the case and her long-lost love Rick. Everything will be revealed through a series of bizarre incidents and accidents that

Book excerpt: Fed up with receiving poorly-written "Twilight" knockoffs, editor Shannon Wade did what any reasonable person would: she started killing the worst of the would-be authors sending them to her! Meanwhile, a stuttering, overweight vampire has targeted those who portray vampires in a light he deems unrealistic. Not exactly novel but terribly graphic, Done To Death follows Andy and Shannon's paths towards a collision as darkly funny as it is ridiculously violent.

Book Economic Evaluation of Cancer Drugs

Download or read book Economic Evaluation of Cancer Drugs written by Iftekhar Khan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cancer is a major healthcare burden across the world and impacts not only the people diagnosed with various cancers but also their families, carers, and healthcare systems. With advances in the diagnosis and treatment, more people are diagnosed early and receive treatments for a disease where few treatments options were previously available. As a result, the survival of patients with cancer has steadily improved and, in most cases, patients who are not cured may receive multiple lines of treatment, often with financial consequences for the patients, insurers and healthcare systems. Although many books exist that address economic evaluation, Economic Evaluation of Cancer Drugs using Clinical Trial and Real World Data is the first unified text that specifically addresses the economic evaluation of cancer drugs. The authors discuss how to perform cost-effectiveness analyses while emphasising the strategic importance of designing cost-effectiveness into cancer trials and building robust economic evaluation models that have a higher chance of reimbursement if truly cost-effective. They cover the use of real-world data using cancer registries and discuss how such data can support or complement clinical trials with limited follow up. Lessons learned from failed reimbursement attempts, factors predictive of successful reimbursement and the different payer requirements across major countries including US, Australia, Canada, UK, Germany, France and Italy are also discussed. The book includes many detailed practical examples, case studies and thought-provoking exercises for use in classroom and seminar discussions. Iftekhar Khan is a medical statistician and health economist and a lead statistician at Oxford Unviersity’s Center for Statistics in Medicine. Professor Khan is also a Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics at University of Warwick and is a Senior Statistical Assessor within the Licensing Division of the UK Medicine and Health Regulation Agency. Ralph Crott is a former professor in Pharmacoeconomics at the University of Montreal in Quebec, Canada and former head of the EORTC Health Economics Unit and former senior health economist at the Belgian HTA organization. Zahid Bashir has over twelve years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs and oncology drug development where he is involved in the design and execution of oncology clinical trials and development of reimbursement dossiers for HTA submission.

Book excerpt: One of the most famous literary works of the 20th century, the novella “Death in Venice” embodies themes that preoccupied Thomas Mann (1875–1955) in much of his work; the duality of art and life, the presence of death and disintegration in the midst of existence, the connection between love and suffering, and the conflict between the artist and his inner self. Mann’s handling of these concerns in this story of a middle-aged German writer, torn by his passion for a Polish youth met on holiday in Venice, resulted in a work of great psychological intensity and tragic power.

Download or read book The Ethics of Medical Homicide and Mutilation written by Austin O'Malley and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ethics of Medical Homicide and Mutilation is an essay by Austin O'Malley. It involves the early 20th century ethics and moral concerns surrounding medical amputation and abortions of fetuses. Excerpt: "How is this human body in all its complexity developed from the microscopic germ-cells? There has been a vast deal of ink spilled in striving to solve this mystery, but we come out empty by the same door wherein we went. The early Preformationists guessed that the ovum contains an embryo fully formed in miniature, and development is a mere unfolding of what had already existed. The biologists of to-day mention the Preformationists with superior scorn, and then present Preformationism under other names."
