This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 1137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little Women and Good Wives, published in 1868 and 1869 respectively, is a story following the four March sisters and their friend Theodore "Laurie" Lawrence in Massachusetts in the 1800's. The four girls each exhibit individual flaws and much of the plot is concerned with their journey to correct themselves, always supporting each other in the end despite their numerous squabbles. Margaret "Meg" March is the eldest sister and at the beginning of the tale is very preoccupied with materialistic possessions, Josephine "Jo" March is a tomboy with a fiery temper, Elizabeth "Beth" March is shy and gentle and Amy, being the youngest March sister, is spoilt and therefore prone to temper tantrums. Little Women follows the sisters for about a year, but Good Wives skips forward in time regularly so that by the end they are all of adult age. Little Men, or Life at Plumfield with Jo's Boys is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott, first published in 1871. Little Men follows the adventures of Jo March and her husband Professor Bhaer as they try to make their school for boys a happy, comfortable, and stimulating place. Jo's Boys was first published in 1886. The novel is the final book in the unofficial Little Women series. In it, Jo's "children," now grown, are caught up in real world troubles. Louisa May Alcott (1832 – 1888) was an American novelist best known as author of the novel Little Women and its sequels Little Men and Jo's Boys.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this dystopian science fiction classic set in a world where women have no rights, the patriarchy sends a covert female agent to take down the resistance. In the second entry of the Native Tongue trilogy, the time has come for Láadan—the secret language created to resist an oppressive patriarchy—to empower womankind worldwide. To expand the language’s reach, female linguists translate the Bible into Láadan, and a group of Roman Catholic nuns are tasked to spread the language. But when outraged priests detect their sabotage, they send a double agent to infiltrate and destroy the movement from the inside… Originally published in the 1980s, the Native Tongue trilogy is a classic dystopian tale: a testament to the power of language and women's collective action. “This angry feminist text is also an exemplary experiment in speculative fiction, deftly and implacably pursuing both a scientific hypothesis and an ideological hypothesis through all their social, moral, and emotional implications.”—Ursula K. Le Guin “Less well known than The Handmaid's Tale but just as apocalyptic in their vision…Native Tongue along with its sequel The Judas Rose . . . record female tribulations in a world where…women have no public rights at all. Elgin's heroines do, however, have one set of weapons—words of their own.”—Sandra M. Gilbert and Susan Gubar, New York Times Book Review “A pioneering feminist experiment.”—Literary Hub “A welcome reminder of the feminist legacies of science fiction…Explores the power of speech, agency, and subversion in a work that is as gripping, troubling, and meaningful today as it has ever been.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Book The Book of Knowledge

Download or read book The Book of Knowledge written by Roman Harambura and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 1139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all have questions ... "Who actually built the pyramids?" "What happens after we die?" "Who created crop circles? And why?" "Nostradamus: the Healer-the Prophet-the Man" "Cleopatra: the women behind the legend" "Who actually controls humanity?" "If Nikola Tesla was so important, why is he so forgotten?" "What is the purpose of life?" But who has the answers? Without a doubt, author Roman Harambura believes, we hold the answers ... within our imagination, the greatest gift of all. The universe, he explains, is filled with life, and human beings are not alone. Earth, our home, is simply one planet in a sky filled with thousands of universes, each with the potential to harbor life beyond our human ability to understand. If we can simply come to accept and embrace the fact that we are just one small part of the inconceivably vast miracle of life across the stars, our own world would change. Imagination, in Harambura's experience, is our greatest gift. In his The Book of Knowledge: I Am Alien, he shares an eclectic and thought-provoking array of ideas to inspire, engage, and capture your imagination. As expressed by a being known as Kuntarkis, the hundreds of lessons, insights, and experiences within are intended to instigate your own questions and journey of discovery. Kuntarkis also answers questions submitted by people from all over the world. This book is highly recommended for those who are seeking a broader understanding, not just about their own lives, but life in all aspects.

Book The Chronicles of Paisley Corners

Download or read book The Chronicles of Paisley Corners written by Cheryl van Daalen-Smith and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2023-09-27 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canadian nurse Kick Cavendish has always wanted to make a difference, and she's hoping her new post as Paisley • Corners’ new public health nurse will help her do just that. The rural Ontario hamlet instantly enamored Kick, who had also dreamed of living on an animal rescue farm. She soon discovers Paisley • Corners is as curious of a place as it is special. A community where the dot in its name is explicitly intentional, and its citizens are meddlesome and sometimes misunderstood but deeply caring despite their quirks and foibles. In The Chronicles of Paisley • Corners, the author draws from her expertise as a public health nurse, a role she compares to the wind: rarely seen, yet a presence that’s felt. With gentle nods to social issues and research around real historical events, an array of stories that focus on the wants, wounds, and secrets of the village residents will have readers rooting out loud for their favorite character. Much of the book is seen through Kick’s observant eyes, from witnessing the trauma associated with being an outcast to discovering the lengths people will go to shroud a secret. The links she sees between her rescue barn and her nursing practice – like beauty from ugliness or hope from neglect – gives us pause to contemplate the true meaning of belonging. The comings and goings of this friendly and compassionate public health nurse provide a window into endearing rural characters who just want to matter.
