Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By contemporary I mean a present with an anticipated future, for we must do our best to overcome clinical habits which make us assume that we have done our part if we have clari?ed the past. (Erikson, 1968, pp. 30–31). The scope of time ahead which in?uences present behavior, and is therefore to be regarded as part of the present life-space, increases during development. This change in time perspective is one of the most fundamental facts of development. Adolescence seems to be a period of particularly deep change in respect to time perspective. (Lewin, 1939, p. 879). I chose to open this book with two excerpts from Erikson’s and Lewin’s writings because they indicate that future orientation has had its deep roots in psychol- ical thinking, and call readers’ attention to the long standing interest in two f- damental issues: the motivational power of constructed future images and their development across age. More speci?cally, Erikson and Lewin’s writings und- score the importance of future thinking for in?uencing present behavior tendencies, and point out that the ability to think about the future and realize the “scope of time ahead” increase with age, and reach a special developmental signi?cance in adolescence.

Book My future is bright I am going to be successful A continuation of I am Not So Different the Aspergers Survival Guide

Download or read book My future is bright I am going to be successful A continuation of I am Not So Different the Aspergers Survival Guide written by John Fitzgerald and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-08-04 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote I am not so Different, to explain, the problems and challenges in raising a child with Asperger's. As a single parent raising a son with Asperger's I was amazed at how little was known about it, even from my local school district. I wrote this book to show how I over came the problems of raising a child with Asperger's Now ten years later, society has grown and learned, we've come a long way, but if you read me first book, you'll know my son is now in his senior year and any parent single or not will face a completely new set of problems that we could never have dreamed of ten years ago as our children enter young adulthood. One of the biggest problem is that most books written today or wrote as if we all have a PHD, well just like in "I am not so Different" I have broken these problems down in to clear everyday language that is easy to follow and get the most out of that said I am proud to present; "My future is bright, I am going to be successful." A continuation of I am not so different.

Book excerpt: In Heart at the Center: An Educator’s Guide to Sustaining Love, Hope, and Community Through Nonviolence Pedagogy, high school teacher Mike Tinoco examines what it means to reimagine classrooms and schools as spaces that humanize, resist violence and injustice, and center love. Offering both a framework and a set of practices that are grounded in different nonviolence traditions, Heart at the Center asks readers to consider what a pedagogy of nonviolence looks like, sounds like, and feels like in the classroom. Written with warmth, expertise, and humility, Mike Tinoco invites us into his classroom, drawing on stories from his own life and powerful examples from civil rights movement leaders to explore questions such as: How do we create classrooms and schools that are grounded in needs and match our vision for the kind of world we dream of? How can we challenge conventional classroom management practices, welcome conflict, and nurture relationships with and amongst our students to foster positive peace? How can we embed love in our curriculum and be inclusive of our students’ lives, centering community, healing, and justice? How can we slow down and take care of ourselves without compromising the urgency to fight for justice? When can voluntary suffering meet our needs and empower us? How can educators navigate conflict, build community with one another, and create their own professional development opportunities that support collective care? Heart at the Center is a book for educators who believe that a different kind of classroom, a different kind of school, and a different kind of world are possible.

Book A Father s Path On Fathers and Sons the Space in Between and Beyond A Collection of Essays Ideas and Reflections

Download or read book A Father s Path On Fathers and Sons the Space in Between and Beyond A Collection of Essays Ideas and Reflections written by Dr. John C. Panepinto and published by BookLocker.com. This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Father's Path looks at the unique relationship of fathers and sons through a developmental lens, offering valuable ideas to build, strengthen, understand, and mend relationships. The Path offers an intergenerational view of son to father to son and suggests that the journey of fatherhood can be better understood across this wider span of time. Only then can a father see where he came from, how times have changed, and how these changes can influence the relationship for better or worse. And from this wider view, a father can look ahead, more hopeful, more capable, and more empathic in the role. A Father's Path not only looks at fathers and sons, but offers a view of the space in between. For here is where the quality of connection runs from devoted to devoid. Culturally, some of the greatest challenges we face in society are born in the first few years of the father-child relationship when he is not present or responsive. But the hope and power also exists in these precious first years--and beyond-- as research on father involvement has shown. Starting with the author's relationship with his father, Dr. Panepinto narrates his path from son to father. He offers how individuality, communication, and changing cultural norms influenced and challenged this foundational connection, and describes the continuum of common emotions felt in this space. And how the experience and reflection over time informed and transformed his views of fatherhood. Throughout the book, Dr. Panepinto weaves reflections and ideas on fatherhood as well as important developmental principles. Drawing on his clinical experience in development, attachment, and parenting, he shares concepts and tools in an approachable way. Using forms from short stories to blog posts, from articles to journal entries, the full experience of fatherhood is offered meaningfully and poignantly--and sure to make you laugh as well. A Father's Path offers an intergenerational view of son to father to son unlike any other. The Path offers a view from above the journey sure to inspire and encourage you to reflect on the relationships you had or have with your father, your grandfather, your sons, and if you are in that stage, your grandsons. And, most importantly, sense in a new way, the power, importance, and influence of fatherhood.

Book Climbing the Rainbow

Download or read book Climbing the Rainbow written by and published by Star-L Press. This book was released on 2003-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than 150 years, waves of poor immigrants flow into Passaic, a small city in New Jersey seeking jobs and a new life. The common dream of these hard working people is for their children to become educated and then successful in America. Climbing The Rainbow. And that's exactly what happens. Each generation is educated in the city's school system, then moved on to successful careers throughout our nation. This mobility allows a new flood of even poorer immigrants to take their place. The success process is again renewed. This book contains twenty-eight stories, each written by a person who grew up or worked in the unique City of Passaic at different times during the last ninety years. These authors are representative of the many ethnic, racial and religious groups that live peacefully side-by-side in this unique melting-pot city. Quoting from one of the book chapter authors, Jose Rodriguez who describes his reaction as a seven-year old on his first day in Passaic. ...As I walked into the parking lot on Market Street, I entered a strange new world, exciting and alive with activity, life and color...black, white, brown, yellow and yes, even red. This was not the pigment on the walls of this parking lot but the skin tones of the youth in this piece of the world. That day in 1978 in the wonderful City of Passaic I saw the rainbow that would make up the road of my youth...it was the truest of melting pots.

Book The Origins of Nostalgia

Download or read book The Origins of Nostalgia written by Svetlana Boym and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-03-10 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of previously unpublished autobiographical and semi-autobiographical “snippets of experience” written by Svetlana Boym in the final period of her life capture her penchant for seamlessly melding, poetically and dream-like, the intensively personal with the everyday and the world-historical. They illuminate the formative conditions for the thinking which she was to develop into her majestic work on nostalgia. Importantly, these pieces fill in gaps in understanding the genesis and scope of her take on the world. For readers both familiar with her work and for those new to it, The Origins of Nostalgia will enable our own cultural past as well as that of the former Soviet Union to be viewed in a different light.
