Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has always seemed very strange to me that soooo many people can go through their whole life in a kind of trance. As the saying goes "They live in the land of Denial!" I visited there for about thirty years, and I must say, that when the fog finally lifted it really was a sort of relief. No more lying, covering up or denying the truth. No more delusions of the way that you wish things were, and pretending to the world that this is the way that things are. I guess it was also saddening how much time was lost and how things could have been different if only you were conscious of them. Why do we live a life of lies? There are probably as many reasons as there are people. We live a lie for love, money, wealth, fame, security, etc, etc. We have to play the game of life the way society or our families dictate so as not to disappoint. Our whole lives revolve around pleasing others and getting them to accept us. lsn't that whole concept a lie? I've always hated lying, but now I do it on a regular basis. I see why people do it because it gets easier over time. I can barely tolerate someone who always lies to get what they want, or to make themselves seem better than they really are. lt's one thing to have someone lie to you and you aren't aware of it, and it's a whole different thing when you catch someone lying and they won't own up to it. That's pretty much lT for me. I guess that's why I have some 'stress' issues. lt takes A LOT of self-control to keep yourself from smashing someone in the mouth. I read a little saying a while ago which said "Sarcasm, because it's illegal to beat the shit out of someone!" I truly love and agree with this.

Book excerpt: When her five-year-old son passed the rigorous entrance exams to one of Japan's top private elementary schools, Makihara, a single mother, thought they were on their way. Taro would wear the historic dark blue uniform and learn alongside other little Einsteins while she basked in the glory of his high achievements with the other perfect moms. Together they would climb the rungs into the country's successful elite. But it didn't turn out that way. Taro had other things in mind. While set in Japan, their struggles in the school's hyper-competitive environment mirror those faced by parents here in the US and raise the same questions about the best way to educate a child—especially one that doesn’t quite fit the mold. Public or private? Competitive or nurturing? Standardized or individualized. Helicopter parenting or free-range? Amid this frenzied debate, how does one find balance and maintain a healthy parent-child relationship? Dear Diary Boy is an intensely personal, heartwarming, and heartbreaking chronicle of one mother and child's experience in a prestigious private Tokyo school. It's a tale that will resonate with all parents as we try to answer the age-old questions of how best to educate our children and what, truly, is in their best interests versus what is in our own.

Book excerpt: LYNNS JOURNAL THE THIRD BOOK IN A TRILOGY Lynn Bosen grew up in a trailer park. Her father abused her until he died when Lynn was nine years old. Her mother was a recluse, showing little interest or affection for Lynn. Lynn grew up with three survival qualities. She could run like the wind, she had a powerful mind, and she had a beautiful body. Boys and men were drawn to her. Lynn is now Lynn Bosen Noble. Her husband, Mike Noble, is a graduate professor and vice president of Great Rivers University (GRU). Mike Noble has studied in diverse academic fields including studies of writing and healing. In Stem: Cells That Divide, Lynn was left for dead in an explosion meant to kill her and to destroy the Stem Cell Laboratory on the campus of GRU. She survived and Mike encouraged her to write of her life in a journal, thus, Lynns Journal. Lynn takes on the task with little enthusiasm; however, she addresses the challenge and she enjoys the process. You will respect her courage and her survival skills. She has trepidation about sharing it with Mike. This is her unexpurgated journal, or as some are wont to say, warts and all. Enjoy!

Adults don’t always understand you (even though they were once kids), and children today face increasing pressure to be, look, or act a certain way. Written in the voice of a girl on the cusp of becoming a teenager, The Truth provides young girls with an opportunity to see how a girl, who is in many ways like themselves, handles her toughest problems and most personal thoughts. Each new page brings forth a discussion to help girls handle everyday problems: How do you survive a bully? How do you handle a crush on a boy? What can you do about relentless teasing by your peers? What really matters as you grow older? In a positive and supportive diary-entry format, Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein encourages tween girls to carry the most precious parts of themselves into adulthood. A great book for mothers and daughters to read together, The Truth is aimed to improve communication, understanding, and self-esteem for young girls as they enter the rocky road of teenager-dom.
