Book excerpt: Dean Martin, born Dino Paul Crocetti on June 7th, 1917, Steubenville, Ohio, U.S. was a singer, recording artist, actor, comedian and film producer. One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century, Martin was nicknamed the "King of Cool" for his effortless charisma and self-assurance. With Jerry Lewis he formed the hugely popular comedy duo Martin and Lewis, with Martin playing the straight man to Lewis' slapstick hijinks. Dino then starred on concert stages, in nightclubs, recordings, movies and TV, being a member of the "Rat Pack", along with Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis Jnr.. Martin hosted the TV variety programs The Dean Martin Show and The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. Dino's relaxed, warbling, crooning voice gave him dozens of hit singles, including his signature songs "Memories Are Made of This", "That's Amore", "Everybody Loves Somebody", "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You", "Sway", "Volare", and "Ain't That a Kick in the Head?"

Book Frank Sinatra Dean Martin

Download or read book Frank Sinatra Dean Martin written by Charles River Editors and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Includes pictures. *Includes both men's most colorful quotes. *Discusses their relationship and the Rat Pack. *Includes bibliographies of both men for further reading. “May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” – Frank Sinatra "If people want to think I get drunk and stay out all night, let 'em. That's how I got here, you know." – Dean Martin America has always celebrated its star entertainers, but Frank Sinatra remains a unique American legend. A pop culture fixture for over half a century, Sinatra's music is still cherished, and his persona remains its own archetype of the quintessential American star. Sinatra transcended genres to the extent that his music stands alone as its own kind of American music, with songs like “New York, New York,” “Chicago,” and “Come Fly With Me” instantly recognizable among all Americans. Of course, there was also the life that went with the music. The cultural identity of the Rat Pack, epitomized in the 1960 film Ocean's Eleven, further contributed to his fame, and everyone knows and appreciates the image of easy living, smooth voice and exuberant starpower that Sinatra represents. If anything, Sinatra's ability to make so many people feel happy and good about themselves was one of the main ingredients of his success. And as evidence of the fact that Americans don't mind their stars doing a little dirt, Sinatra's rap sheet and relationship with the mob are practically a celebrated part of his life. Like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin is an American legend for his longevity and success across a garden variety of different platforms. Martin began as a nightclub singer, performed in a comedy act, starred in films, recorded hit albums, and capped his career by serving as a television host. In fact, there may be no star who was better able to transcend the different avenues of entertainment. Martin's life and career are often compared to his close friend and contemporary Frank Sinatra, and for good reason. Both came from proud Italian families, both were cohorts in the famed Rat Pack in the 1960s, and they each maintained success even late in their careers. However, Sinatra's career was filled with far more ups and downs than Martin, and his public image experienced highs and lows along with it. It's also somewhat ironic that it was Martin who Anglicized his name but remained a bigger Italian icon than Sinatra. They each began their careers as Italian crooners, but Martin maintained his style while Sinatra adopted a brasher, more “All-American” singing method. Martin never strayed far from his humble background, even as he became one of America's biggest stars. Show Business Icons profiles the life and career of two of America's most famous performers. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events, you will learn about Ol' Blue Eyes and the King of Cool like never before.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1837, Trimble County became Kentucky's 86th county, created from portions of Gallatin, Henry, and Oldham Counties. It was named for Virginia native Robert Trimble, a Kentucky attorney and state legislator who was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court by John Quincy Adams in 1826. In 1838, an eastern portion of Trimble County was taken to create Carroll County; the two eventually became archrivals in high school sports. Bedford, the county seat, was founded in 1816, centrally located at the junction of US Highway 42, once the region's main thoroughfare before Interstate 71 was built, and US Highway 421. Milton, the only other incorporated city in the county, is linked to Madison, Indiana, by the Milton-Madison Bridge, the sole Ohio River crossing between the Markland Dam, 26 miles upriver in Gallatin County, and Louisville, 42 miles downriver. Traditionally rural, Trimble County is known for its peach and apple orchards, its roadside markets, and of course tobacco.
