But as murder makes waves in their tightly knit coastal village, can the Seaside Knitters prevent a deadly trend from catching on? While the Seaside Knitters get ready to showcase their new Danish-inspired event, locals can’t stop talking about Tess Bean, a bright-eyed environmental activist with a way of charming both animals and humans alike—especially Birdie’s granddaughter, and Izzy’s old Irish setter. Except not everyone is a fan of Tess and her strong opinions, especially after she starts questioning the “clean” practices of small-business owners . . . When a popular bar owner whom Tess publicly calls out is found dead from a fall off his club’s deck, Tess soon tops the list of suspects. But in addition to a murderer walking their streets, the knitters are grappling with an unusual wave of local thefts. Now, as Birdie’s granddaughter struggles to protect her mentor’s reputation, the Seaside Knitters must solve a dangerous mystery that not only threatens to unravel the fabric of their community and the approaching holiday—but also the lives of those they care about the most . . . Praise for Murder Wears Mittens “A beautifully written mystery full of warmth and surprises.” —Nancy Pickard, New York Times bestselling author “I was utterly charmed by the Seaside Knitters and their cozy community.” —Bestselling author Laurien Berenson

Book Touching the Past

Download or read book Touching the Past written by Marijke J. van der Wal and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07-17 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of ego-documents figures as a prominent theme in cutting-edge research in the Humanities. Focusing on private letters, diaries and autobiography, this volume covers a wide range of different languages and historical periods, from the sixteenth century to World War I. The volume stands out by its consistent application of the most recent developments in historical-sociolinguistic methodology in research on first-person writings. Some of the articles concentrate on social differences in relation to linguistic variation in the historical context. Others hone in on self-representation, writer-addressee interaction and identity work. The key issue of the relationship between speech and writing is addressed when investigating the hybridity of ego-documents, which may contain both “oral” features and elements typical of the written language. The volume is of interest to a wide readership, ranging from scholars of historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, sociology and social history to (advanced) graduate and postgraduate students in courses on language variation and change.

Book Touching the Invisible

Download or read book Touching the Invisible written by Chris McAlister and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experienced Shiatsu practitioners share knowledge and insights gained over thirty years of clinical practice and teaching to create a book they themselves would have wanted to provide practical guidance and philosophical perspective on this healing art. The book’s central themes are awareness, intuition and intention in the practice of Shiatsu and how this body-mind perspective can influence the wider health debate. A modern rendering of the ancient wisdom underpinning Shiatsu and Oriental medicine, this book goes beyond the technical details of Shiatsu as a specific therapy to the universal principles underlying it. Presenting Shiatsu from different perspectives, ranging from its philosophical underpinnings to the realities of daily practice, this text represents the fruit of the knowledge we apply and continually re-evaluate in our ongoing clinical work. The question and answer format is based upon classical tradition – the most famous text within traditional Oriental medicine, Huang Di Nei Jing, uses this method to illustrate complex ideas in an easy to read manner. The text is organically formed through questions formulated by our student and fellow practitioner Filippa Freed. These questions, stemming from her training and practice, facilitate a broad discussion that roams freely between technical principles, case studies and informal anecdotes.

Book A Greek English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature

Download or read book A Greek English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature written by Walter Bauer and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 1189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Described as an "invaluable reference work" (Classical Philology) and "a tool indispensable for the study of early Christian literature" (Religious Studies Review) in its previous edition, this new updated American edition of Walter Bauer's Wörterbuch zu den Schriften des Neuen Testaments builds on its predecessor's staggering deposit of extraordinary erudition relating to Greek literature from all periods. Including entries for many more words, the new edition also lists more than 25,000 additional references to classical, intertestamental, Early Christian, and modern literature. In this edition, Frederick W. Danker's broad knowledge of Greco-Roman literature, as well as papyri and epigraphs, provides a more panoramic view of the world of Jesus and the New Testament. Danker has also introduced a more consistent mode of reference citation, and has provided a composite list of abbreviations to facilitate easy access to this wealth of information. Perhaps the single most important lexical innovation of Danker's edition is its inclusion of extended definitions for Greek terms. For instance, a key meaning of "episkopos" was defined in the second American edition as overseer; Danker defines it as "one who has the responsibility of safeguarding or seeing to it that something is done in the correct way, guardian." Such extended definitions give a fuller sense of the word in question, which will help avoid both anachronisms and confusion among users of the lexicon who may not be native speakers of English. Danker's edition of Bauer's Wörterbuch will be an indispensable guide for Biblical and classical scholars, ministers, seminarians, and translators.
