Book excerpt: Lifemobile tells the story of Benjy Bennett, an honor student with Asperger’s Syndrome, who upon graduation from high school hopelessly despairs that “there’s no place in this world” for someone as different as him. But then his widowed father brings home a “Deathmobile” – an old Corvair, famously characterized by Ralph Nader as “unsafe at any speed.” When Benjy learns that the U.S. government ultimately found Nader's sensational charges untrue, he decides that the Corvair is “not disabled, just different,” as he is, and has been unfairly stigmatized by a world that does not understand it, just as he has. The different boy becomes the different car's champion, determined to prove to the world how wrong it is about both of them. Taking Benjy and his father on a wild and emotional ride full of colorful characters and comic adventures, the Deathmobile becomes their “Lifemobile,” ultimately helping them both discover Benjy’s own uniquely satisfying place in this world.

Book Watching for the Morning

Download or read book Watching for the Morning written by Philip Blair and published by James Clarke & Co.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aimed at the general reader, this book is a scriptural and convincing presentation of Christian hope against a background of political, economic and social disintegration, religious fanaticism or aberration in the end time climate which prevails in the world today. This is the essential guide to the end of the Millennium, presenting and analysing the latest events that we have all faced and their influence on the world that is due to start next year. From the ancient and more recent history of Jerusalem and the problems of the Middle East, through the prospect of a world-wide economic collapse, to the view that happiness and sexual gratification have become an 'inalienable right' and the spoliation of the environment, the author examines the current and forthcoming problems that the world faces. Finding the links between them, he draws a picture that could move the reader to despair. But the almost unalloyed bleakness of the World's way to global catastrophe is not the main burden of the book. For the Christian who is faithful to God, there is hope - even more, the sure promise of deliverance from the last great tribulation. Philip Blair interprets the words addressed by Jesus to the Church at Philadelphia 'Because you have kept my word of patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial which is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell upon the earth' (Revelation 3:10), as meaning that a promise has been given to all true believers that they will not be required to pass through this period of unparalleled world distress, this outpouring of God's wrath. Philip Blair's interpretation seems credible, and replete of 'the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted of God'. It is impossible therefore to overestimate the importance of this book. The author has shed light on 'one of the less obvious truths of scripture' and his book deserves the widest possible readership, providing hints, guidance and comfort for the years to come.

Book excerpt: A journalist once famously remarked that it is only possible to fall in love with one war, but do cold wars count, and how does it play out if many are too young, or too much time has passed, to really remember? What began with the intention of four good friends to meet for a quiet short gathering at ones remote retreat quickly became anything but, with a were not leaving until mentality, if by default. Four grew to nine as the far-fetched concept of tenderfoots forming a band transitioned toward a geopolitical food fight, in which neither hill-climbing trekkies nor Harringay Ladder hipsters were spared, and the only form of victory was being on the right side of history. The croaky-voiced Patsy from behind the convenience store counter joined the acerbic filmmaker Martyn to prop up the mosh pit, as the days felt more like a size 11 than a size 9 affair.
